Superchunk - (The Cure) In Between Days

- Superchunk's last album, Here's To Shutting Up, came out in 2001. (For those keeping score, that's a long-ass time ago.) The legendary Chapel Hill band has played a few gigs in the last decade, but mostly kept quiet, so when a Chicago show was announced, we made a collective little "squee" noise. And since we're obviously big fans ("Detroit Has A Skyline" is on the master Undercover list!), we finagled and asked nicely and begged the quartet to drop by and record a song for us. Superchunk chose "In Between Days" by The Cure, and made it--as you'll see--their own. Oh, and in case you hadn't heard: There's a new Superchunk album just around the corner, called Majesty Shredding. It comes out September 14 on Merge, and it's a rocker in that old-school Superchunk way. Get excited.

Didn't think I liked Superchunk. Didn't think I liked The Cure. Great fucking cover! I am a fan!
Two great tastes that taste great together.
Excelente versión. Todos mis respetos a Superchunk.
I love when bands turn keyboard parts back out to guitar. Love.
One of my favorite bands. covering one of favorite songs! Kinda makes me sad and missing my youth. Superchunk was me as a happy teen and The Cure was my depressing times as a teen.
Same man, it was like the uppers and downers of music.
I'm a teen now and this is still super relatable.
true
Same.
Loud and clear..
Love that crunchy guitar.
This pleases me
Man, superchunk can do no wrong.
God I love both these bands!
One of my favourite bands since 92
OMG, I love them and I love this cover!
this band is actually really good
They were one of those early-mid '90s alt bands who got overshadowed by the fixation on the Seattle/Pac-NW scene.
I love this band and the original both. Oh man, this is such a wonderful composition too. Strangely a friend introduced to head on the door first, and I did fall for Superchunk a half a decade later.
I be known this since the early 90s. And now I feel old.
Superchunk is a great band that should be on all people's list if they like 90 alt rock
Ttt
Amazing cover of this song...and that's coming from a big Cure fan. Thanks Superchunk!
superchunk were such a fantastic band...
and still are
They’re still around and still as relevant as ever
one of the best covers I've heard...
Best cover of this song I've heard, without all the quite cheesey effects and stuff, you can really admire the songwriting.
It’s brilliant
Superchunck did such a bad ass cover 🤘🤟
Beautiful !
Amazing
omg..... this is so amazing.
Awe, done brilliantly by the Chunk! ❤️
my college days fav band,... and still rockin'!!
I saw Superchunk live in '94.
Still the best cover I've heard of this by far.
Love The Cure, so glad they played it well
In Between Days sounds very much like a New Order song and I do believe at the time The Cure came out with this that NME declared New Order should march to the patent office about it but then again imitation is the very sincere form of flattery. I'm in my 50s and I do so love this song!!
I am 53 and love this song, Superchuk did a great cover!
Well, "Sunrise" off of Low-Life sounds like a Cure song, so I guess fair's fair!
Man I love Superchunk! WOO!
that was sick!
I luuuuv you Superchunk
makes me want to turn it up to 11
Amazing
Absolutely love it
The vocalist still sings like he's in his 20s.
still sings like he's doing helium
Mac and his clean living
Looks like it to
Saw dude last month. He was still singing the songs 30 years ago like he used to. I thought he’d sing deeper, but I think it was still like back in the day.
Love everything about this!
Superchunk = Rock Gods
Such a great fucking cover, if any band could do the cure justice and take it up a step its Superchunk.
Stylistically perfect. Interpretationally magical. You took a masterpiece and gave a respectfully amazing rendition. Btw saw you at the Town pump in Vancouver in the 90's. You were amazing!!
This is so good
Super Chunk rules!
Great cover, like listening to 2 great bands at once.
Yeah! Lots and lots of days rolling along to Superchunk back in the days
Love this!
Solid
Fantastic!
superchunk nailed this song,I like it better then the original
The bass line is excilent!
im a long time fan of superchunk and im happy to say my girlfriend loves this song!
im happy to say your mom loves this song
They did great! Love the cover, cheers!
These guys are like in a weird universe where we each time-travel juxtaposedly, and I keep missing them! Also The Tubes, so they are in very good company!
The fact that I can even see Rise Against's signature is just a slap in the face
Love you Mac!!!
They are awesome
Great cover
That was awesome!
Awesome!!!
Great job, really enjoyed your cover version!
a great band playing a great band
I absolutely LOVE this cover. Does anyone have an mp3 of this without the little interview in the beginning?
After nine years, apparently not.
I could make one for you but the kooty koff prolly got u by now.
They included it on _Misfits & Mistakes: Singles, B-Sides & Strays 2007-2023_ -- which is a compilation any Superchunk completist will want.
Sounds like a great high school cover band!
Yes!
the best cover
Super good.
Rob Would be Proud... 👌
Smith and company gotta be proud if they listen to this
his favorite is Dinosaur Jrs just like heaven
@@DaveAnchovies omg i love dinosaur jr
I never heard of Superchunk before.who knows if they're still playing together, but this was an excellent cover of the song. I'm a big fan of The Cure and this is one of my favorites by them.
Sure they're still together. Their 2018 album 'What a Time to be Alive' is great and they had a record out last year, too.
Guitars Awesome.
a decent cover even without the signature keyboard notes
It is exactly what I also think.
Kyle Styres very cool cover in Superchunk style.this is a more like a tribute version.
Well Mac actually plays them, but it's for sure less prominent than in the original version
But the keyboard melody is mostly being played, albeit on the guitar.
And acoustic guitar
@suicideskwid
I literally just bought this album today, and your comment actually informed to do so. Thank you!
@MrGtD Thanks friend!
I fucking love Gibson Marauders!
I have loved Superchunk ever since the early 90s. If you like these guys, check out one of their original songs called "The First Part".
Eric Green "one good minute could last me a whole year"
Immense
Entre Dias
Ontem fiquei tão velho
Eu senti que poderia morrer
Ontem fiquei tão velho
Me deu vontade de chorar
Vá em frente
Apenas vá embora
Vá em frente
Sua escolha está feita
Vá em frente
E desaparecer
Vá em frente
Longe daqui
E saber que estava errado
Quando eu disse que era verdade
Isso não poderia ser eu
E seja ela no meio
Sem você
Sem você
Ontem eu fiquei com tanto medo
Eu estremeci como uma criança
Ontem longe de você
Isso me congelou por dentro
Volte volte
Não vá embora
Volte volte
Volte hoje
Volte volte
Por que você não consegue ver?
Volte volte
Volte para mim
E eu sei que estava errado
Quando eu disse que era verdade
Que não poderia ser eu
E seja ela no meio
Sem você
Sem você
Wow
Cracking cover, huge energy :-)
+Chris Bardell You have to be joking! Complete arsewank from start to finish!
i think as someone who is not totally versed in music or knowing how to play an instrument at all has its benefits bc i can enjoy music without thinking too much, like this honestly sounds perfectly good to me and i don't see what's wrong with it like how others are pointing out
There's nothing wrong with this cover and should be enjoyed for what it is.
banda maravilhosa, fazendo cover de outra banda maravilhosa... 👏👏👏👏👏
One of the better ones.
Ive been rewatching this video regularly for a decade now, thanks for keeping this on here!
Kicks the crap out of a 311 cover.
COMING FROM A LIFELONG SUPERCHUNK FAN AND 311 FAN MAYBE 1 DAY YOU WILL FIND YOUR WAY..............................................
Top
I actually like it. 👍🏻
No, but I will; I love Dinosaur Jr, strange that I've never come across it before. Thanks.
Yay, Laura is left-handed.
huh? not on bass guitar...
@@DaveAnchovies Signing her name (4:22).
cool
Whats the song at 0:14? Oh and the intro song
Any higher quality recording?
It's that Jonny Wurster kid - kid delivers papers in the neighborhood. Some of the neighbors say he smokes crack but I don't believe it.
What kinda guitar is Mac (the guy singing) playing? It looks Gibson, but the head stock looks like its off a flying V. so confused.
GREAT COVER ONCE YOU FORWARDTHROUGH ALL THE ASSININE CHATTER TO 1:20
have some patience, it's a one minute conversation. I'd hardly call it asinine.
That drummer looks like Philly Boy Roy!
totaly dude i love cure songs done by other people just cause i dont like how the cure plays them but the songs are awesome ever listen to dinosaur jr's version of just like heaven?
Very good cover. Also check out face to face's cover
His guitar is a Gibson marauder they do not make it any more. It is awesome.
Funny story, way back in the mid-nineties my band opened for Sixpence None The Richer when they were a bit more indie rock. Leigh saw that I was playing a Fender guitar that she had never heard of (a Musicmaster), and jokingly told me that if I had been playing a Gibson Marauder, she'd have married me.
@@ErikJensenDetroit : Well, you dodged that bullet.
only superchunk could turn something so depressing into something upbeat. this band is so underrated
The Cure’s version isn’t depressing at all. It’s quite upbeat.
Was it necessary for him to do helium first?
@tombuttner I know -_- when I reread my comment I was like "well that was stupid". lol
I don't like either of these band but I like this.
1:22
shreddy
Silver for difficulty, gold for execution. "Try a Little Tenderness" is a more difficult song, but this one just plain damn worked better.
