Just a point of reference here, the Hogfish is not in the snapper family. It is in the Wrasse family. A lot of people call it a Hog Snapper, that is wrong, they should stick with hog fish II am surprised nobody has pointed that out here.
Someone had pointed that out to me and that is strange how so many people call it a hog snapper

So you were only using hog balls and shrimp for all of that stuff. How heavy are those weighted?? Because I use huggies but I notice that those nasty shrimp thieves - triggerfish and little grunts - steal the bait on its way down. A real pain. And not much use catching triggerfish offshore Tampa - not one in a 100 hooked is a keeper size. 😂
Haha, we were running 15 pound leader that was about 6 feet long. On my 2,500 sustain. Had plenty of triggers and remoras from sharks we had to go through to get them. I’m not sure the size hog balls probably a 1/2oz if I had to guess
Also yes only shrimp. Once we ran out I used cut pieces of thread fins but that seemed to only catch tons of little red grouper
No disrespect but If the sharks are that bad in that area at that time, why stay? You’re just feeding them at that point.
Good point. We ended up leaving shortly after the first three breaks to get away from them.

I have alot of bad luck just about when I hook a hog fish shark ate the hog before I can get the hog out in the boat. WTF bruh alot of time this happen.
