    First thing I thought of when you said there’s not a fish out there that’s going to break you off LOL is this man is crazy I fish with 80 pound braid in grouper break me off all the time

      Then you need to be fishing with heavier and longer leaders. I doubt you are fishing with a reel that has more than 80lbs of drag on it. You are being broken off from the line rubbing on structures. Heavier and longer leaders will fix this for you

    Scott, thanks for a great video. The biggest take away for me was your set up with a solid spinning reel and not a conventional reel. I'm not skilled, but I've always been more confident and successful with my Penn spinning reel. Really enjoyed your information.

    Long time fishing new to saltwater. So, when you say to stay about 20ft. off the bottom how do you know you're placed there? Also, you don't chunk bait and take of tabs, that's a good idea, is that more successful than pure chunk bait as the scents don't travel?

    Common misconception on drag=cracking power. With conventional reel it’s so much easier to crack the fish in. Yes you have 40lb of drag but how much cracking power does spinning reel have? Unless you want to intentionally more sporty style, spinning reel is not suited for big bottom fish

    • @ScottBonnerOutdoors
      @ScottBonnerOutdoors  3 года назад +3

      You are 100% correct. Conventional is definitely the easier more realistic approach to bottom fishing however I personally prefer spinning because it makes the process more enjoyable and fun. I may lose another battle or two compared to the conventional guy but I also have more fun

    I hate jigging rods for bottom fishing. Got burned too many times last year. I'll never fish with one again unless it's on a flat line. Stout rod and convention reel is the way to go for bottom fishing. Unless you want all your hooks to swim away...

When I was near there, there were 40+ boats there, the bite was one before I got there, but was shutdown when I was there. After spending an hour there, no luck. I decided to change spot. I was trying to go to another spot you posted, it was a little far, but I has no clue where to go. In the middle way towards your spot, I found 4 boats fishing 3 miles away from me, I decided to join them. It was, wow, a fish campus, the fish finder was fully colored. I ended up with catching 4 VERY BIG (25-28 inch), lost 2 of them, landed 2 (25+, 27+). The guy on my boat does not know how to fish, he got the 25+ one. usual you need to catch the fish before you guide others, i didnt see any red snappers being caught.

      That’s not critical in teaching a method but thanks for the advice. There are a million videos out there that don’t teach but just show people catching fish. That’s not the point of this video

      @@ScottBonnerOutdoors catching a fish with your method validates your method works otherwise its just "word"!

    A fishing video on how to catch red snapper and you never even caught one how can you make a video on how to catch something and you don't catch it

      I catch a ton of red snapper using these exact methods. This video wasn't necessarily about entertainment it was more about teaching. I'll add some fish in future videos

    Not a good video, not informative, I learned nothing from this sadly. No catch,nothing, even the way he talks is boring

    We found incredible spot 200' deep out of Port Canaveral. Smallest red we caught was 15lbs. Unfortunately it wasn't in season.
