That's why, to win on the international level in the 4x400 meters relay, the US has to use runners from different disciplines. Like in Tokyo 2020. The US has some formidable runners but doesn't have good strength in depth in 4x400.

Just because each time Poland sends a largely different squad to 4x400 and since a few years, Poland usually wins that relay. Unless they meet the US and the US puts THE best possible American squad. The squad, that combines all the best what America has across the board of all disciplines.
