I really want a Subaru Legacy. I just love how you get options for a normal key+ a remote, rather than just a remote and a push start button. I also love the look & all the safety features :)
I was involved in an accident. The eyesight defiantly pulled me up an stopped me hitting the car in front. Shame the guy behind me didn’t have the same system. He’s now paying for my repairs for the next few years!
I have it on my new 2017 Legacy. Works amazing as advertised. My only concern is me staying alert in traffic since the car basically drives itself. I find myself using my phone in traffic and letting the car drive itself which isn't safe obviously.
once the vehicle stops for more than a few seconds it deactivates it and you have to reactive it with the toggle switch or by pressing the gas. but slow and go traffic (As long as the vehicle ahead is moving, it'll stay activated)
Have 2016 liberty/legacy sedan. The only thing I don't like are the seats. Headrest is adjustable but it leans to far forward and seats have no bolstering. And you can't start the car and lock it from the outside if you want to warm it up and go back inside. Other than that the car is amazing and eyesight has saved me a few times. 3.6 is fast too
I guess I am the only one that is not too hot on some of this car's features. One thing is the constant alerts saying I am not watching the road. Who knows, maybe my face is an odd shape, but it does it all the time. I disabled it by blocking off the narrow black area above the main screen that has navigation, etc. Then, the radio is enough to send one off a cliff. It comes on every time you start the car. First, I don't listen to the radio while I drive and I also like to hear my engine when I start it as I use the sounds over the years to gauge the "health" of my vehicle's engine. Had to put Sirius at station "0" to stop this. What engineer made the decision that every driver listens to the radio? Odd. The seat belts are really fun, too. Most sane designers give you 15 to 20 seconds of motion before buzzing and alarming the occupant, but not this little beauty. It starts screaming at you immediately and then in about 2 seconds screams even louder. So, I am purchasing seat belt inserts so I can do simple tasks, like driving my car from the driveway into the garage without being pelted with buzzers. There are a few more, but some I do like were featured in the video.....like the automatic bright headlights.
Notice the car did not have to be totaled and a court order used to get 22 seconds of video from the system. Eyesight is indeed able to output its video feed to a recorder. Now how the heck do I buy one so I can have full time recording??? I have read that in Japan and possibly other SE Asian markets one can buy a recorder to plug in to Eyesight but travel is a bit iffy just recently.
This eyesight is really good. I was on the road and the lady in front suddenly stopped because she got scared of the truck near her. Eyesight stopped my vehicle, was a bit scary.
Samuel Brooks technology does not allow as coming to stop with driver not engaging clutch on manual tranny car will not work. They could possibly allow for lane departure feature though. Just nothing with auto braking.
Yep. Test drove a legacy recently and it did have some trouble with lanekeeping on a concrete freeway with poor markings. Adaptive cruise works phenomenally well though.
I just got a new 2017 Legacy the other day. Eyesight works great and as advertised, but yes if the lanes are faded or nonexistent, the lane stay feature does not work.
Many thanks, I've been looking for "eye exercises to improve eyesight myopia" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Patlarny Quit Glasses Principle - ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my neighbour got excellent success with it.
This was great, thanks, I been tryin to find out about "how to improve your eyesight in a week" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Patlarny Quit Glasses Principle - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate got great results with it.
Oh my god this is a LIFE SAVER - ALL automobiles should be required to install collision avoidance systems - it's more important than seat belts. And NOT self-drive computers, they kill passengers when the software fails. EYESIGHT keeps the humans in control, and helps prevents mistakes that cause injury and death.
Does it work at night? Just picked one up today and on the drive home onceit became darker it shut off.. but came back on for a few minutes then shut off again. wonder if somethigns wrong with it or it just doesn't work at night
This got me out of trouble I looked over my shoulder before changing lanes so I don’t see the car in front had stopped to do an illegal turn. The eyesite stoped the car
Hello. I have a brand new Subaru Forester Sport. Within the first few days I tested the forward collision and rear collision alarm and breaking system and they worked fine. Then a day or two later I wanted to test it again and it did not work at all. Then a day or two later I tested it again and the rear alarm and breaking works, but not the front. Will punching the dashboard fix it? Because that is what feel like doing.
Does lane departure assist only kick in when you get to the edge or can it automatically keep you in the center? I ask because I drove a Volvo which would keep me in the center while cruise control was active and it was great!
that's what you get for your socialist system, too many stupid rules, too much burocracy, too much governement, George Orwell "1984" dejavue, all over again.
Very hard rain and snow will temporarily disable the system this fact will be displayed. If conditions are that bad, you should be driving with great caution anyways.
I would not, the cameras should be taped off before spraying glass cleaner on the windshield so to not contaminate the lens. If a mechanic touches the lens at the dealer, procedure is to replace the lens. These are precision optical devices and should be treated as such. The payoff here is that the system is by far the best one our there.
Thank you for the video. A lot of great information. Question: I have a Subaru Forrester 2018 with eyesight. I love the adaptive cruise control feature but it would be a lot better if the cruise control would keep working after the car is stopped longer than 3 seconds. It is very annoying when I am driving in heavy traffic as there are many times my car has to be stopped more than 3 seconds and I have to keep re-starting the cruise control otherwise the car will move forward on it own and not stay in place. Any ideas what I can do??! Do you know when Subaru upgraded the eyesight system? 2019? 2020? Thank you in advance for your help!
I am a new Outback owner in Taiwan. Why can't we have this in Taiwan? Subaru Taiwan removed this! I want this stuff so bad, but now I can only watch the video and pretend I have it!
If I don't see the dump truck sitting in the road in front of me then I'm probably not going to notice the "visual warning" on my dashboard. Just sayin.
This is what the system does well. I have had it activate a couple of times as I approached an intersection with a car in front of me making a right turn as I go straight, I continue on knowing that the car turning will clear the intersection before I get there, but the car just sees a nearly stationary object ahead and momentarily jabs the breaks while reducing throttle. Kind of weird the first time, but its rare and it lets you know the systems working.
Great...The insurance institute loves this car....but the Insurance COMPANIES charge lots more to insure it !! Why ?? To replace a Subaru Windshield (with "Eyesight") costs nearly $1500.
self driving cars are the worst - they cut people off when other cars merge from the left... see it all the time. Eyesight is the best option: The HUMAN is in control of the car. If the Human screws up and makes a mistake, eyesight keeps the airbags in their pouches and the seat belts from retracting ! Airbags: humans made bad mistakes Seatbelts: humans made dumb mistakes Eyesight: human is not allowed to make mistake, car protects itself ! :-)
I would get soooo annoyed about all the sounds alarms and headsup.. since Iam having fun when driving I usually pass lane markings in turns and curves.. BEEEP.. But adaptive cruise control is nice..
Stay in your lane. Using your signals to switch lanes prevents these warnings from coming up. Plus, all the lanekeep stuff can be disabled if you wish.
I was FORCED to get the Eyesight model, because I wanted Navigation... stupid me -- I should have bought the model without Eyesight and bought a Garmen. For me, Eyesight is a horrible, awful tech, since, I am the driver of the car... as far as I'm concerned, the Eyesight is another way of texting, poor drivers, and drunks to be get away with driving -- "Eyesight -- the enabling tech". Wait until you TRY to go around a car 1/2 in your lane (a squeeze-maneuver), when Eyesight slams on the brakes, or when you have to get up close to pass a car on a two lane road, and Eyesight flashed red warning and audible alerts of too close at you. Thank God I was able to disable the awful lane departure feature. Oh, and wait until you are driving in pitch darkness in deer country, when you NEED your high beams and the car detects a headlight a mile away and shuts off your ability to use high beams... you have to pull back on the flash-to-pass lever and hold it, to get high beams. And stupid me paid $3,000 for this piece of shit -- well, the car itself is great, but the Eyesight is AWFUL. But, I see many commercials now with Eyesight-type systems in their cars -- so much for having to learn good driving habits...
@@RandomNumber141 Wait until it becomes standard on every new car you won't have a choice then as with all the other stupid electronic nannies that have been made mandatory on all new cars.
Maby you should focus on making a reliable car before making this useless garbage. Just a thought ya know I kinda prefer a car that doesn't have rod knock after just a few thousand km's. Or dropping a valve because of faulty springs because Subaru was too cheap to put higher quality valve springs from the start. Maby the development money could be better spent Subaru.
Can say we never had that issue, 200k miles and never did on a few, all been stellar but I know not everyone is gonna find one that is especially if a previous owner did not take care of it (that goes for all cars)
Thank you Subaru for this wonderful safety system. I just ordered my 2022 Outback Limited with Eyesight. Can’t wait to take delivery.
I really want a Subaru Legacy. I just love how you get options for a normal key+ a remote, rather than just a remote and a push start button. I also love the look & all the safety features :)
I was thinking of getting a Crosstrek with Eyesight but I wasn't sure until I watched this video. Now I KNOW I want Eyesight in my Subaru
Josepheus Gomeseus III it’s worth it I have it on my Impreza sport and cross trek limited
Your insurance will jump because the windshield glass is so damned expensive to replace. It has to be "recalibrated" which doubles the cost or more.
We just got a 2018 Outback with eyesight, the system is awesome!!!!!
You know I'm kinda bumped that Subaru doesn't sell all the models in Poland
I was involved in an accident. The eyesight defiantly pulled me up an stopped me hitting the car in front. Shame the guy behind me didn’t have the same system. He’s now paying for my repairs for the next few years!
lol
Just got a 2024 Impreza and watching all these classic Subie videos. Couldn't be happier, especially in this hellscape of a Used Market.
I have it on my new 2017 Legacy. Works amazing as advertised. My only concern is me staying alert in traffic since the car basically drives itself. I find myself using my phone in traffic and letting the car drive itself which isn't safe obviously.
One of the reason's why I still prefer manual transmissions. It combats the boredom and sleepiness.
That's a "you" problem.
once the vehicle stops for more than a few seconds it deactivates it and you have to reactive it with the toggle switch or by pressing the gas. but slow and go traffic (As long as the vehicle ahead is moving, it'll stay activated)

Excellent video. Thank you, Subaru. I look forward to getting a Forester soon. :-)
Right up until you get a cracked window out of warranty... still though I love this system, I love how it helps keep me alert.

They could possibly allow for lane departure feature though. Just nothing with auto braking.
2:54 that is my favorite sound in the world
Nice semi-auto technology. I'm guessing shitty lane markings will still be the bane of such optical systems, though.
Yep. Test drove a legacy recently and it did have some trouble with lanekeeping on a concrete freeway with poor markings. Adaptive cruise works phenomenally well though.

I just curious how much extra I should pay for that feature. Being software developer I trust inly semi-auto technology and never ever auto :)

Why cannot at least some of these features be included with a manual transmission, such as the beeps when going over the center line?
Does it work at night? Just picked one up today and on the drive home onceit became darker it shut off.. but came back on for a few minutes then shut off again. wonder if somethigns wrong with it or it just doesn't work at night
No it doesn’t. Not consistently. I have it on my 18 Forester. Nice that it’s there, but nothing can beat driver alertness.
This got me out of trouble

It does not automatically center you in the lane. You will pinball back and forth while it's working.
Yep, only the ones after 2020 will have the lane keep assist that keeps you in the center. Would be nice to have this in older models as well.
Just one question. The Foresters eyesight why is not it in Europe for 40.000 Eur? Europe does not matter?

What happens with eyesight and snowy weather
The wiper reach the camera area and wipe it. If snow or ice stick with the window, eyesight will complain.
It's also not a good idea to rely on automatic systems in poor weather.
Very hard rain and snow will temporarily disable the system this fact will be displayed.

Literally asking for a car that drives for you lol buy a Tesla
and then people put their ez pass or dash cam blocking the eyesight camera
Late response but seeing that really makes my blood boil
Cool stuff
Getting a new windshield, do i need to get the camera recalibrated in the front
YEP ! What did THAT cost you ??
I was many rear end collisions when car suddenly stops at right hand turn.
Best future ever
I am a new Outback owner in Taiwan. Why can't we have this in Taiwan? Subaru Taiwan removed this! I want this stuff so bad, but now I can only watch the video and pretend I have it!
trust me bro, accroding to the driving behaivor of taiwaness ,this fuction is useless.
Jimbo Pan the same here in VN. The part "pretend I have it" made me laugh so hard
it should be legal device in your country to sell it over there.
If I don't see the dump truck sitting in the road in front of me then I'm probably not going to notice the "visual warning" on my dashboard. Just sayin.
WVFreebyrd that's why it will apply the brakes for you if you don't do it

I just rode in one that has it. I wasn't scared but it goes from left to right . Like it's drunk. Horrible experience

It's not meant to drive the car, just as a added safety feature in case of a moments distraction or inattention.
Shame the Levorg STI is Japan only...
This is way outdated. Time for an updated video.

Optional? What a joke, “Toyota” has it standard
So buy a Toyota.
Mercedes had this tech in the 90s and early 2000s.

Too bad Subaru makes the most bland looking cars
Looks are subjective.
