YES! My favourite of 2018. I Watched Ida as soon as I could after I got out of the cinema watching Cold War. Ida feels very similar to Cold War when it comes to style and my fucking god the cinematography THE CINEMATOGRAPHY, it's so god damn beautiful.
When I already lost all my hopes, here comes the review! It makes me so happy when there are good polish movies, people actually watch them and in this way they can get to know my culture. As for Ida, it's hard to say which movie is better but I guess the historical context is even more important in Ida' s case, in Poland there were some controversies surrounding the movie. I think Cold War is more of an universal story. Plus fun fact: the couple in Cold War was inspired by Pawlikowski's parents :)
Yesss! Thank you for this review! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm polish and in Poland we are very proud of Mr Pawlikowski; he is becoming next Andrzej Wajda. And yes if you haven't watched Ida you are missing! Cheers from snowy Cracow! :)
I think that Cold War is better than Ida. In Cold War I love this great cinematography which is so different than this in ida or Roma, and it's perfect in this movie. Kulig and Kot are both amazing, and the ending... One of the best movies of the year!
Thanks for another great review Bailey! I know it wasn’t in your top 18 of 2018, but I would love to hear your thoughts on Shoplifters if you get the chance. I found it unforgettable.
Watched it in Polish, didn't understand a word, but loved it. I was riveted from start to finish. Brian Oosterbeek.

One of my three five-star movies from 2018. Will see anything Pawlikowski makes after this and hope Kulig becomes an international star.
I can't stop listening to dwa serduszka

Gonna try review that as well
Breaking Banter Thanks and all the best!
Ida is veeeeery simple, in a good way, but not necessarily better than Cold War, cinematography is dope tho, worth watching 🙌🏻
I love Ida and it was a deserving winner but its not 10/10 like Cold War, to clarify
I haven’t seen this one yet. But after Roma, I’ve been intrigued of the recent use BW as of late.
Thanks for the insights!
Fun fact Roma’s black and white style was inspired by Pawlikowski’s Ida. The two directors are friends.
Masterpiece! And @Breaking Banter - IDA is even better!
Superb film.
Been hearing a lot about this for so long.
why so late bailey 🙈
Go watch Ida, now.
Is it true that this movie is only aimed at straight people, because I'm not one of them??😅
No?
