One of the very rare, minutely few actors whose real life personas can't be found in his characters cuz he's that damn good!!!
Mammootty also.. He is indian actor
Gary Oldman is also like this. He’s no true leading man, but he’s a character actor of the highest level
Cillian Murphy
@@ForMindlessConsumptionfully agree. He's pretty much my favorite actor
@@braveheartedlion He's not a bad actor but DDL is in a whole different league, respectfully.
Proof that a moustache ages anyone at least 20 years
I'm a guy whose a bit over 30 and people usually have always guessed my age around somewhere +- around 5 years younger. Like one day at work I happened to mention that I just cannot drink heavily anymore since I will have a 3 day hangover these days for already at young having baad ones. Then this summer-worker says: "Yeah what, it got so bad when you turned 21" in this like mocking/joking not in super serious tone, basically just trying to call me out on exaggerating and I just look at him and say that.. Dude, I'm 31 😂 His face went completele into a mode of not knowing what to say 😂 Like I don't even personally mind looking young since it haven't been a problem with women but it is only annoying when sometimes older people speak to me like I would be 20 when they know my age (some subconcious stuff). It's also mostly in work-setting like some weard thing where someone thinks they can get me to do something by these bs tactics that are used on younger people not that familiar with work setting. I just have worked while in school since 17 so I make sure very fast to correct how you talk to me, with some higher-up's (like high higher-up's) you kinda need to just take it or you are looked as difficult.
I can grow a decent enough to easily pass a mustache and beard to my chin but I feel like I get asked more easily papers than when I'm shaven 😅
But also DDL doesn’t age somehow. Everyone we see him off the screen, he looks as young as he did when he won his first Oscar.
@@aleksisuuronen5969k
As I do when I take off my hat, you make a good point.
It’s called make up my friend, more than the moustache
He is the best actor of all time.
Agreed.
True
Maybe 2nd to Brando
Naw he's the Best@@davedavid7061
Easily. He teleports into a character and never seems fake. bizarre really
He was 50 years old when the movie came out, and he looks like a grad student here! The man is a shape shifter!
He's incredible in every way !
He’s method acting a 35-year-old.
No he just doesn't eat bad food.
This is what british people look like when they don't smoke and eat pasties all day
Best actor of all time. Wish he’d come out of retirement! ❤
is there an actual reason to why? like he could definitely be the lead in the next nolan or tarantino film for sure
@@miekgg Despite his obvious talent, he devotes himself completely to his parts, and it sounds like (according to him) it takes a lot out of him. Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the best actors ever, but he doesn't make it sound like it comes easy to him.
Him and Gary Oldman.
Me too
Im sure he's got one more in him
This guy is beautiful as f*ck
He really is beautiful. And then to play such ruggedness and 'masculinity' ... I mean the comments on this clip alone speak for themselves. He's brilliant. And so CLEARLY brilliant, too.
fcking is beautiful
If you dont agree...you're gay.
Go watch Last of the Mohicans
His receding hair makes him unattractive
The man chose a perfect voice for the character. Truly one of the top performances ever.
Holly Hell I have never heard his real voice. Always loved the movie but am now truly amazed.
He sounds like mix of George Harrison Paul McCartney
Amazing actor.
Same. Mind blown
Right. I didn’t know he was English until I watched a documentary on him yesterday. Now seeing him side by side with his character, it’s amazing how he not only changes his accent , but the overall character of his voice. Similar to Gangs. Amazing
Watch The Last of the Mohicans
Daniels performance in this movie is possibly the best of all time Planview felt like a real human it was like watching a documentary
Even in this video, where I see the actor and the character back and forth, my brain still perceives them as two separate people.
Second best. First best = Deuce Bigalow
No it was quite put on and not natural, annoying. Sorry.
@@JoolsUK Absolutely not, There Will Be Blood is severely underrated. And I cannot for the love of my life think of a movie with better acting.
@@Ludovicus1769 I thought I saw Gangs of New York in there, which was not good.
The greatest living actor imo. His performances in There Will Be Blood and Gangs of New York are master classes in acting.
He stole the show in gangs of New York. That movie was good because of him! One of the best films ever
You know what, sometimes I wonder about that, everytime I convince myself that someone like him is a truly great actor I'll hear the stories about how he lives in character the entire time he makes a film, he even takes the character home with him at the end of the day and even texts people in character, then it makes me wonder, who's better, someone like him that has to live the part in order for his character to be caught on film or someone like Robin Williams who could turn it on and off like a switch, someone who could be Robin Williams dressed up as a character on a movie cracking jokes and being himself seconds before a director yells "Action!!!" and snaps right into being the disturbed photo mart guy in an instant and nails his performance in one take then when the director yells "Cut!!!" and he'd snap right back to being Robin Williams dressed like the disturbed photo mart on a movie set just being himself and cracking jokes, you could watch him, and others like him, on something like Letterman when he'd be a guest and he'd just jump straight from one character to the next and be absolutely spot on doing every one of them.
Someone like Daniel Day Lewis has to practice his character like crazy and even then has to live them to play the part then you've got actors like Robin Williams or Seth McFarland who can instantly jump from one character to the next including their voices being spot on perfect.
Which one really is a better actor?
@@dukecraig2402 I’d say someone like Robin should be considered one of the improv greats. Method acting is dangerous but can produce some of the most realistic portrayals.
Last of the mohikans for me
Have you seen My Left Foot?
The greatest actor who ever lived.
He's a completely different guy to his characters. That's why he's so good.
You speak the truth, Kemo Sabe !
Alansmith… that’s “how” you know he’s so good not “why” he’s so good. Crazy you have likes on a comment that makes no sense. Actually it’s not that crazy, most people are stupid.
@@jameshawk2470shut up nerd
Just phenomenal in everything.
Crazy how his natural speaking voice is crisp and a touch higher, but plainview’s voice was low and velvety. Great voice!
This is one of the best performance by an actor ever in the history of cinema
Male yes.... Best female performance of all-time is Emma Stone in Poor Things
Mammootty performance in " Vidheyan 1994 " is above this
@@Akshay76541 no one has heard of that movie
@@Akshay76541 Don’t think so. I think DDL’s role in There will be blood is more tougher because it’s a bit more louder eccentric role. See the climax. Who can perform like that with at most perfection.
@@gokul1233 Do u watched the movie Nanpakal nerathu mayakkkam?
The fact that I understand he became an apprentice shoemaker just solidifies the amount of respect I have for him. After mastering one craft he pulls a complete 180 and starts from scratch at a new skill. Bravo.
"I don't wanna *talk* about those... tapes"
Ugh
What tapes??
Oh I get it
One of my favorite movies. Daniel Day Lewis working against the wonderful Paul Dano was mind blowing. Miss you Daniel.❤😂🎉
Indubitably. I can't drink a milkshake without thinking of the wonderfully talented Daniel Day Lewis.
@@jubalcalif9100He will be drinking our milkshakes for all of eternity.
He has a genuine good natured smile 😮
His smile is so beautiful- his whole face gets involved and I love that
He is the GOAT of actors living today and it's not even close.
It's sad that we'll never see a movie with him in it again. The most brilliant actor whoever lived.
“There Will Be Daniel Day Lewis” is such a great movie
There Will Also Be Paul Dano.
Greatest performance by an actor ever. Ever.
Raging bull 1a
Ever ❤
I don’t know, Bill the butcher was pretty damn awesome too. Completely overshadowed DiCaprio, and I had never even heard of DDL at that time.
@@stantoncochran536 Yes he was! You got me there. I've actually aways thought of it as a tie.
@@stantoncochran536 LDC is one of the most overrated actors of all time, in my opinion. DDL made him look like an amateur.
Im 44 . Ive been a movie buff my whole life and ive never ever seen a better performance than DDL playing Daniel Plainview 😊😊😊
How bout DDL in Lincoln? Thought that was a super accurate portrayal as well
@@4zafinccaptain in boogie
This guy could play a chair
You'd hear wild stories of him staying in the same place at a table for week on end. At some point he'd rub linseed oil into his skin to further the authenticity of playing said chair.
Amazing comment
@@memyself898 So fucking funny. Thank you
The world needs DDL back. We cherish what he's given us, but he's just so damn good
This remarkable artist seems to literally change his DNA. Since the age of Shakespeare his talent transcends the centuries.
One of the greatest actors of our time.
Him and Gary Oldman,m my top two favarite actors....❤❤❤❤
Mine aswell Gary gets as close as you can get to Daniel but Daniel just edges it out for me because not only does he become the character like Oldman but it feels like im watching a documentary its fucking bizzare to me
And both are British.
@@spumemonk11 it's insane how much talent the UK had put out over the years.
Absolutely. Both disappear into their roles. No matter how many times I see DDL in his actual state it’s still jarring because of the characters he plays are so engrossing

it ain't no boogie
A living legend. He is the best actor, but the fact that he stays out of the limelight and just lives life is what makes him him.
A Damn great actor nobody gets into a role like Daniel.
I heartily concur ! He disappears into his characters. Hopefully he'll someday come out of retirement.
Whether or not it's accurate, it fit the movie perfectly. Probably going to watch it today. So damn good.
The soundtrack and his acting together made the perfect nightmare of emerging industrialization. Along with the brilliant visuals. The harshness of the environment and the mining/drilling work... The dehumanization. It's a masterpiece.
Jonny Greenwood who is the lead guitarist for Radiohead did the soundtrack.
ONE OF THE BEST ACTORS IN HISTORY PERIOD 😮
Greatest actor who has ever lived! No one even comes close!
Daniel is the best actor I have ever seen
The greatest actor of his generation.
Daniel! Admit it! It's John Huston all the way!
Love your acting and love "There Will Be Blood".
There was a clip somewhere of Tarantino saying that Paul Thomas Anderson said something like “I didn’t ask him to but he just decided to do John Huston”
DDL is tremendous and TWBB is the 21st century American masterpiece.
I think this is the best performance that I have seen from an actor ever
Ive been watching this dude's movies since I was a kid and Im just now heaeing that he's British. The man is brilliant.
I love that movie. He was brilliant in Last of the Mohicans and Gangs of NY also.
Oh my god. This guy is beautiful.
Wonderful actor. Absolutely a joy to watch him, The name of the Father, My left Foot . I could go on and on and on.🇮🇪❤️☘️☘️✝️
Yours is the first comment I've seen mentioning either of those films.
One of the greatest acting performances of all time. This film is fucking fantastic.
This dude becomes the character ...
Need to watch this film again! That part where he calls his son his competitor sent chills up my spine!😮
In my estimation arguably the best actor ever. Certainly top 3 to 5. Simply brilliant
He completely transformed himself. He's nothing like the character he played.
Behind his unassuming attitude, he is a monument to acting
He puts the work in. Talent doesn't explain it all.
I don’t usually put much stock when someone says, “So and so is the greatest ______________ of all time.” There’s simply too many people who have done the same thing so well that it’s hard to compare.
So I won’t say Daniel Day Lewis is the greatest actor of all time. But, if someone did say that, I would completely understand. His work is flawless.
He is the absolute finest actor who ever lived.
One of the best actors of all time, for sure. I really hope he'll come out of retirement at least once if he finds a masterful script that warrants it. There Will Be Blood is one of the greatest, most haunting movies of all time. I'll miss him greatly.
Shout out to Ghoulardi. Paul Thomas Anderson’s dad. He gave us a genius!
Shout out to Cecil Day-Lewis (Daniel's father, poet, and a genius in his own right). He gave us a genius too!
daniel day lewis in the 80’s talking about a movie from 2007. he really is the greatest actor of all time.

I found his interpretation of the voice of Lincoln incredibly believable. I remember thinking I was actually watching the real Lincoln and this is how he sounds.
this film is a masterpiece
It is
For sure.
Acting, Camera, everything.....even the Soundtrack, it's just the perfect Movie !

Not a fan of celebrities and Hollywood elites but this man is a true genius, his character portrayal is by far the best I have ever watched, makes one believe the acting is his genuine nature.
His intimidating demeanor in Gangs of NY made him the focal piece of tension in the movie
We have been alive with the greatest actor in history
Imagine being THIS humble with THAT much fkn talent. It’s actually insane.
This movie was a masterpiece. It didn’t get the respect or publicity it was worthy of. Top 5 favorite in my

People throw around the term GOAT a lot, but DDL is truly, objectively, the greatest actor in human history, bar none.
Frighteningly good actor
On one hand its so disappointing that Daniel doesn't do more movies, but on the other hand, when he DOES do one, you're in for something special. The man is absolutely brilliant.
I struggle to think of a better performance than his, in TWBB. Absolutely top class.
Val Kilmer in Tombstone
Probably the most talented Actor of all Times
He’s beyond ….
I can’t believe he retired … so many more things I’d love to see him in
His talking in different voices among the roles he portraits is astonishing. I’ve never seen any other actors do that. Usually it’s just the accent
He nailed it,dude is crazy talented and humble and picks his roles wisely
That town meeting scene is legendary. His performance was bigger than the movie itself.
Best actor alive, and yet he’s so humble!
He is hands down the greatest actor of all time
Just watched it again! DDL's voice reminds me of John Houston. Excellent!. The movie always leaves me wanting for more. 😊
Imo, he is the most authentic actor I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. The man is incredible. There are a lot of actors that have it a lot easier than him. Marlon Brando proclaimed that "acting is easy, people act everyday." Not a direct quote but close..Daniel day lewis is one of those actors that truly is remarkable
He can be freaky when he gets in character it's like it's no longer him n U literally just see the character, that's how good he is.
He's just so cool.
"Do you think you captured the voice of the period?"
DDL: Yes I do!
His acting in the movie was one of the best ive ever seen!
