Deep Thock Long Pole Boba U4T? Prevail Emogogo Tactile Switch Review!

- With a full nylon housing, 62g progressive spring, and some serious tactility, the Emogogo tactile is a very good option if you're looking for a new tactile switch to try out! While it can't fully overcome the flaws in JWK's tactile manufacturing process, it comes close at $.61 per switch with code MAKER!
In thinking of my titles and descriptions I realize I didn't put thoughts/comparisons in the video, so here goes :) The emogogo feels more tactile than the Dooms, although they have similar profiles if you're looking for a more tactile Doom I'd say the emogogos are a good choice. They remind me a lot of the U4T, but with a lighter spring. The Voyagers are more abrupt in their tactility and it felt more like a Zyko like I mentioned in my review. It feels great but IMHO isn't pleasant for long typing sessions. The Emogogo/U4T style tactility is more enjoyable for extending typing.

I like your description about the tactile feel and the comparison with other tactile switches to provide a clearer idea about the new tactile switch. Unlike other RUclipsrs that only focus on the sound but not the feel.
I must have got a bad batch of Boba U4T. Like, really bad. I had almost a 50% rate of crunch in my leafs. Nobody else was talking about this so I just felt like it must have been my batch. I ended up having to lube them to try and quiet that down and it still persisted (although a bit quieter). Ended up making them a lighter feeling tactile by putting the stems and tops in hyperglide black bottoms. Leaf noise is gone, they're a little higher pitched and the tactile bump is softer feeling from the leaf (but I totally dig it).
Ooh interesting, I haven’t had a problem with u4t crunch but the switch you made sounds great!!
I have three sets of U4T's each in their own board. They are lubed with 205g0 on everything but stem legs, and all of them suffer from crunch. Sometimes I notice it and it bugs me, but I've just gotten used to it. They feel too good.
Mine suffered really bad leaf crunch as well, and after a while, key chatter became an issue. Eventually ended up falling in love with lighter tactiles anyways!
I have u4t and u4, the u4t's have crunch when i press down hard as i can but surprisingly the u4's have 0 crunch
@@Omikronik I also have a set of u4 and I agree. I definitely don't see the same issue in them.
I appreciate your honest, thorough, and transparent switch reviews so much that I bought the DOOM and Coffee Chip Ice Cream switches and have used them for months in my work and home keyboards. Looks like I'll have to buy a third keyboard and these switches now. 😌⌨️
Woohoo! Thanks for the support! :D which build is home and which is work?
@@MakerMods 🤓 For work, I use a modded keychron K10 full keyboard (my first foray into mechanical keyboards & need the numpad for work) with lubed coffee chips w/ swapped out TX long 62g springs. For home- I write/type a lot, I have a gmmk pro 75 and use the tactile version of the DOOMs. I'd like to learn how to solder to access more mid-higher end PCBs and kits. I'm not sure if you have a vid already on this subject but if you have any recs for beginner soldering tools and tips, it'd be cool to see on your channel.
I was thinking of swapping the stem of these with a 13.5mm long pole one. Would that bring the total travel distance down, since it’s at about 3.8mm?
Emogogo sounds like somebody wearing black makeup with teased hair dancing in a cage
nice review! hot take. i dont like boba u4t :0
Hehe, thanks!!
I’m looking for the loudest long pole switch as an intro to these kind of switches. What do you suggest? I’m open to both linear and tactile or one of each!
Didn’t know Silent Alpaca is one of JWK’s! I have some Nebula but yet to use them. Looking forward to your review!
I dont think there is going to be a switch that will outthrow the Boba U4T 👑
I’m trying to figure out which switches I want for a keyboard I’ll probably build in around 4 months, right now I’m using blues on some random Redragon keyboard and they’re fine but I know other switches are better and they’re loud. The most important thing to me is probably smoothness, I’m trying to go with linears, but even though I game I don’t really care if they’re really fast
List of importance to me:
1. Smoothness
2. Sound
3. How good they are stock (lubing sounds like a lot of work and it’s also a bit expensive to get everything I need, most factory lube jobs are fine nowadays I think)
4. Price (I’m fine as long as they aren’t over a dollar per switch)
I’m asking you because your channel is smaller and you tend to respond to comments a lot, keep it up!
If I had to offer a suggestion with those criteria I’d say Keebfront honeycombs!
@@MakerMods sounds good!
I hope you get some of the Vala Shogun to check out. Love seeing more tactile attention. Nice thorough review!
I'd love to see a visual chart comparing the tactiles you've reviewed highlighting the weight, tactile shape, strength of tactile event, etc. It's difficult to frame how a given switch compares to others in a vacuum.
I’ll check them out! Thanks for the Rec!
@@MakerMods YES! Would love to hear the Dark Warrior, Vala Shogun, HolyTom V2 and Badseed switches added to that sound comparison lineup!
Dude the quality of this vid is fucking crazy this should have way more engagement holy, keep up the good work, quality always will always shine through.
Thanks so much for the kind words!!! :D freaking made my day!!!
I wish I got the same voyagers you got. My chosfox voyagers have really egregious leaf ping even after lubing the back of the leaves...
I have heard that the voyagers were batch dependent, which kind of sucks :/
😬 Yeah I'm trying to sell them for cheap now to get rid of them.
Can you take a look at createkeebs Peri switches and compare to emogogos?
Let me take a look at them to see what they’re about! Thanks for the rec!
Awesome video, thanks for your honest thoughts in the review!
THANKS FOR THE BANGER! Excited to try out my nebulas and epsilon’s!!!
I really appreciate the comparison with the other popular tactiles. I've been debating between a few of those and it's nice to hear them back to. back!
I *hate* my C3 Kiwi switches because of the unbearable pinging. They were my first custom mechanical keyboard switches and left me so disappointed. I've now discovered Tecsee Sapphires and they are a game changer for me.
How do these compare with the anubis?
Let me do a quick a/b and I’ll let you know, but I was messing with them both this morning in preparing this weeks review and I don’t believe the Anubis has a reduced travel like the Emogogo. I remember the Anubis having a larger tactile bump than the emogogo!
@@MakerMods and THAT is how you earn a sub 🙂
@@dennisalarcon9175 woohoo! Thanks for the support!!
@@MakerMods another sub here for that😃 how is the review going?
Can you recommend me a tactile switch? Which one would be the most quiet and deep from anubis, salmon, boba u4t, (maybe penguin?) and this? I do not want a silent yet, and it seems pretty much impossible to decide based on videos. As I know boba is loud, but do not know the others.
@@tejaksz Me too .Today to be subscribers
what are the strongest tactiles have you used?
kinda choosing between the emogogo linears and the big wig switches is there a recommended switch where u think it has a little more thockier/deeper sound STOCK or maybe even other switches out there that might be a better option than those two? I'm a lazy guy that wouldnt prefer lubing because of how much time it takes so i would prefer a solid stock switch XD.
I think the doom linears or the KNC green jackets are among the lowest pitched switches I’ve tried, but you’d have better luck with a non-long pole switch for the deepest, lowest sound!
Hello! I've been using a u4t 62g and found my fingers get tired typing on it, would you recommend linear prevail switches still? I know they are mostly 62g/68g but have long stems but I'm rather unknowledgeable about long stems.
Hi! What is the rest of your setup like? If you’re consistently bottoming out on a metal plate, that could cause fatigue. If it’s the switches themselves, a linear could definitely help as there’s no tactile bump! Long poles cause a faster bottom out, which could also be a little harsh. Another thing to consider is a spring swap, as a lighter spring could help reduce the weight on your fingers but it’ll also make bottoming out more likely!
@@MakerMods I'm currently using a qk65 with an alu plate, u4t 62g, all foams, but my fingers get tired browsing/playing games. So right now I'm looking to swap my stock switches that came with my Q1 for some good linear switches that would preferably be less fatiguing.
Great review thank you!
Thanks for watching!!!
