Let's face it, Hackman is just one of those actors where I'll go see the movie if he's in it. He's that talented, bringing something to every role that is absolutely, uniquely his. Whether its a rawness, fury, or compassion, he saw things in characters that would not exist on film without him in the role.
Best American film actor ever. Fact.
I agree with you, thinking just the same. Miss him on the screen.
Absolutna pravda.Ja tie filmy volam hackmanovky.Zboznovala som ho v mladosti prosto chlap.❤
No mention of "Heist" .... - Just love that movie !
👍 also no mention of "Zandy's Bride" (1974) together with Liv Ullmann were he is giving a full repertoire of Gene Hackman ❤
Ok, looking over list of all of Gene Hackman's movies, I have to say that "The French Connection" was his best performance.
Don't forget BAT 21, Bite The Bullet, The Chamber, and Scarecrow. But my personal favorites are Unforgiven, Mississippi Burning, The French Connection 1 and 2, The Quick and The Dead, and Crimson Tide. Mr. Hackman is an iconic actor that played in so many iconic movies.
Don't forget Col.Carl Rhodes in "Uncommon Valor" 1983, and US Secretary of Defense David Brice in "No way out" 1987
Best film actor America ever produced
100% true, yes.
@@maxbowie6074 John, Wayne has entered the chat.
One of my favs from Gene was Get Shorty.
He was wonderful in Night Moves.
one of my favorite actors of all time so many true classics
Gene Hackman is a true artist and your List is Great with the exception of The Superman. The Honorable mention should be: "Scarecrow", "Target", "Package", "No Way Out", "Marooned", "Downhill Racer", "Reds", "Class Action", "Narrow Margin", "The Firm" and "Absolute Power".
Gene Hackman never gave a weak performance, and he is truly a cinematic Legend.
Also "The Gypsy Moths" (1968)
Forgot No Way Out and Absolute Power
Unforgiven, Mississippi Burning, The French Connection, A Bridge Too Far, Bonnie and Clyde, The Firm, The Poseidon Adventure. These are my selections for Hackman’s best performances.
The Package and Crimson Tide
Oh man, and I loved The Poseidon Adventure! I don't believe I forgot that!
The one thing worth watching in "Unforgiven" - is the "duck of death" scene, which is
best supplemented with his episode against Ace Hanlon in "The Quick and the Dead".
Lance Henriksen sets it up, and Gene Hackman delivers.
Gene Hackman really was an awesome actor and he made a fine career. His best performances are in The French Connection, The Conversation, Mississippi Burning and Unforgiven. Superman was one of my childhood favourite movies and Hackman was very good in the role of evil Lex Luthor.
Number one, for me; French Connection and perhaps, even Mississippi Burning. But I agree, he really did something great with his character in Unforgiven. Without him in Unforgiven, that would not have been the same. He made that film, for what is is. Great actor.
He is also great in lighthearted movies like "Hearbreakers" and "Birdcage"
Great list amazing list one of the Great actor in Hollywood history wonderful personality amazing human being Always been everyone favorite actor in Hollywood
Excellent in The Firm.
The “Conversation” is his top performance for me. Great film.
Great list He was great in Quick and the Dead and also the Poseidon Adventure. Also Absolute Power
Behind enemy lines was a good one as well with him.
No way out, royal tenenbaums, unforgiven. Unreal actor classic 🕊️
If a movie has Gene Hackman in it, you can guarantee it's gonna be great.
Gene Hackman had a lot of good performances in his career. He was also the blind man in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and he was also the lead role in I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER.
French Connection II
is not only his best movie but also one of the world masterpieces. And Scarecrow must not be ignored.
Totally agree This list is total BS with Bonnie and Clyde and Unforgiven. In both he was a supporting actor. I'd put The Conversation near the top as well
I am happy to know someone agrees with my opinion about Gene Hackman!
Although he retired 20 years ago, Hackman's legacy grows with each passing year.
Gene Hackman is an amazing actor but I have to put The French Connection as #1. Popeye Doyle is such a memorable character. Whatever movie he’s involved he will give that performance 100%. Lesser known gems from Gene Hackman are The Package, The Quick and the Dead, and Narrow Margin. They should have a top 20 - The Poseidon Adventure, The Firm, and The Birdcage.
That was a really nice list. My favorite Gene Hackman films are Superman 1 and 2, The Package, Mississippi Burning, Hoosiers, and Loose Cannons. He is a great actor.
Truly one of the greatest actors to grace the screen. And even though it wasn't as highly rated, I still very much liked "The French Connection II."
Top 10 movies of G.Hackman
10-The French Connection -71
09-Unforgiven -92
08-Bite the Bullet -75
07-The Package -89
06-March or Die -77
05-Uncommon Valor -83
04-Enemy of the State -98
03-The Quick and the Dead -95
02-Target -85
01-The Poseidon Adventure -72
missed The Firm.......The Package should be higher
@@hennagaijin100 i never liked firm, and we all have our own list, what is yours??
Yeah, I liked him in 1, 3, & 9 too.
I'm shocked they omitted "Heist". One of his best.
Poséidon adventure
He's great in everything he did, you left out French Connection 2 where he gives a brilliant performance, He's great in The Gypsy Moths 1969, and Bat 21.
Bat 21 is great, so underrated.
Gene was one of those actors if he was in the credits you knew it would be a good movie..
Hackman’s supporting part of corrupted lawyer mentor Avery Tolar in The Firm should have made this list. The depth Hackman put into that character stole every scene he was in.
Gene is one of my top 3 male actors of all time...he is just great!
Simply the best
No way! Where is "I never sang for my father"(1970)?!?!This is one of his really best movies.
Love him, miss him.
Thanks! I just got surprised at one thing from 7:49 in Mississippi Burning here. Funny though. There is Cat's Paw (maybe a poster or something at the background) which is a Canadian product by origin but the location of the filming has nothing on Canada. But that actually had me connected to the Fallout game really that piqued my curiosity of the same image as a magazine in the game. It was no magazine in actual.
Last great actor. Could have a Hackman Top 25 and none would be a dud. Honorable mention;
Poseidon Adventure (very powerful typical Hackman performance).
Young Frankenstein (showing how versatile he was doing zany comedy).
So so many.
Too young for Popeye Doyle but loved him in Superman and Hoosiers and Unforgiven!!! Classic!!!!! Great video, can you do a video on Angela Landsbury!!
Underrated films see: Heist, The Package, and Narrow Margin.
Great actor. Like his work.
Hackman, pure talent
loved him in the Firm with Tom Cruise, a Few Good Men and Under Suspicion. Think you'll have to make another Top Ten vid for him.
He was good in the film film "Downhill Racer" with Robert Redford in 1969.
I have three favourite actors - Jack Nicholson ,Laurence Olivier and Gene Hackman who is my number one !
Great list for a great actor. Bus is there a reason you never mention Eastwood in Unforgiven?
Narrow Margin was a great one.
Hackman is very retired and old now. Sure do miss his stellar acting.
Very nice indeed thanks for the video. What about _Absolute Power_ ?
Great films. I love him in Night Moves. It's sort of a strange neo-noir.
I love Gene Hackman great actor and love all his movies but you also forgot his other great roles . Narrow Margin, Reds, The Firm, Heist, No Way Out, but too me The French Connection 1&2 was great and I missed him on the big and small screen. Great Actor he was.
C'mon man no Night Moves???? One of his best roles. Way better than the bit part in Bonny & Clyde.
His acting in Quick and the Dead out shown anyone else in the movie.
Love ❤️ all his Movies. 👏👏👏🥂🍾
And also "The Poseidon Adventure" - Legend of an actor
NO1 as The Poseidon Adventure
I mentioned this earlier. I read once where a person said, "I'd watch Gene Hackman paint a fence" .. and so would I...
Happy Birthday Gene Hackman born on January 30, 1930. He is a retired American actor. In a career that spanned more than six decades, he received two Academy Awards, two BAFTA Awards, four Golden Globes, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Silver Bear. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Hackman
I'd have French Connection top, the car chase is next freaking level, especially for the time. Amazing! Reds would easily make it to top ten, although as with Bonnie and Clyde Hackman has a small part against Warren Beatty's leading role. Still a good list
God, the royal tennenbaums is so good.
2 movies that were omitted are "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Uncommon Valor".
hi
Popeye Doyle is a classic anti-hero and he won the Academy Award. It's his best performance. The car chase alone puts it there. Just don't pick your toes in Poughkoughkeepsie.
Great artist. Love him unconditionally since French Connection. Always so tense, profound, PERFECT! Love his way of stealing the show from anyone and anything you see on the screen along by not just crude attention - grabbing with tricks, but quality of his performance. Pure gem.
Warm regards from Poland to all.
Good top10
The French Connection & Bonnie and Clyde!
Like "All Night Long", and especially " Bite The Bullet"..
"Why did you have to nuke the whole building?" - Will Smith
" Because you made a phone call ! "-
Gene Hackman
Missisipi burning stands out. The Narrow margin should be in the top 10.
Did Gene Hackman sell his entire San Juan Island? Many own houses on San Juan Islands, Gene owned entire island!
Little Bill Daggett. My favorite.
I like the list
Oh, another of my favorites - Loose Cannons.
My favorite was Indiana basketball coach, next is Mississippi burning!
Big mistake here , his acting while go "Cold Turkey "in the French Connetion ( 2 ) John Frankenheimer , should be in the top 3 , and maybe on 1 ! Anyway a very good movie .
Great video. But I miss in this list The Poseíidon Adventure. Chreers.
ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE ACTORS ! THE MAN WAS JUST AWESOME, NO MATTER WHAT HE DID. MY FAVORITE ?? GOTTA BE AS " POPEYE DOYLE " ; " DOYOU PICK YOUR FEET IN POUKIPSEE ?? " ALL-TIME BEST LINE . LOVE THE GUY ! A MAN'S ACTOR. -----------MJL, 76 Y/O
Gen Z here, I only knew him from BEHIND ENEMY LINES
*This intensely self-effacing and immeasurably talented man's epitaph should simply be, "Here Lies Gene Hackman: **_The Natural"_** (When you hear the phrase, "They just don't make 'em like THAT anymore!" he's the poster child.)*
Good list. I'd add Twilight. Excellent acting all over.
The Poseidon Adventure!
The Package!
THE DOMINO EFFECT
1. MARCH OR DIE 🖤2. THE DOMINO PRINCIPLE 🖤3 THE CONVERSATION 🖤
The Quick and the Dead!
That film was on TV the other day. Funny, his characters in Unforgiven and T.Q.A.T.D. are so similar but in T.Q.A.T.D. he is just a little campier.
I get UNFORGIVEN over THE QUICK & THE DEAD, but that can't diminish how great Hackman was in the latter -- albeit "copycat" -- role.
Greatest
Can you get top 10 Dennis weaver movies all time please
Crazy to think he was in 3/4 of the early 1990s westerns
- Unforgiven
- Wyatt Earp
-The Quick and The Dead
The only one he's not in (arguably the best) Tombstone
No mention of Clint in Unforgiven? LOL
Can you get top 10 Michael Caine movies all time please
I have watched the French Connection many times and playing Popeye Doyle should be number one, it's too dammed good for me to enjoy it. 👍👍
I would have put his performance in The French Connection at #1. The others, I agree with.
It could not possibly be "of all time" because Gene Hackman is 94 years old. The correct phraseology would be "Top 10 Gene Hackman Movies."
He retired from filmmaking in 2003 so I think it's fair to say "of all time"
@@etvconnect It can't be of all time if he didn't live from time immemorial. I know the phrase is used left and right, but it has no basis in reality.
@@PastafarianPriest it's supposed to be subjective 😁
Some strange inclusions and notable exclusions. Unforgiven, French Connection and The Conversation certainly deserve their spots, but The Poseidon Adventure, No Way Out, Get Shorty, The Quick and the Dead and Absolute Power are all very unlucky to miss out.
The Quick and the Dead also. 😎
how did The Firm not make it into the top 10?
No Way Out has to be in Top 10.
Good Hackman list.I thought he was great in The Firm and Get Shorty.
Behind Enemy Lines belongs on this list.
The Scarecrow !!
