@@tiara424777 the magical incense recipe is shared in the video! ❤️ But the ingredients are: Rose petals, yerba santa leaves, sweet wood, wild cherry bark, licorice root, amber resin, frankincense resin, a few drops of some sort of prophecy oil. Unfortunately, I don't have a link for the prophecy oil because I can't remember which one I used (LOL) but really any divination/prophecy oil from any metaphysical store will do!

I just came back from a solo trip to El Salvador. Loved it there and met so many friendly locals. I went on a solo trip to Ecuador last year and was greeted with nothing but friendly people as well. I’m not really great at Spanish but was able to do a little Spanglish with people. In Ecuador I felt super safe to walk around by myself and even eat by myself. I didn’t get a chance to walk around so much in El Salvador but I felt safe walking down the street of my Airbnb. I don’t do that in the US. It’s weird because I feel more outgoing and myself outside of the US. I was able to feel more present.

My family's from Alabama and I live in SW KY now. Ive also lived in Boston and Delaware. The south is so very much more friendly. People wave and speak to you and if you're sitting on the porch sometimes people come up for a chat even if you don't know them from the start you'll definitely know them when they leave. Never once have i felt threatened or afraid.

Where I live in England I cannot take the bus, or go to buy food without chatting to someone and hearing their life story 😂 I love that about this place! Also we have a lot of people from all over the world that move here, so I get to hear about so many different cultures, beliefs and places, it’s so cool! In fact I’m the apartment block where I live there are 6 flats and people are from Bulgaria, Romania, Jamaica, Iraq and England! As for the coffee thing, I would be totally overwhelmed if I had that many choices 😂😂😂
I’m always nervous about travelling because I have type 1 diabetes which requires insulin and fibromyalgia so I can get really sick really fast! But I would love to take a trip like you did! Thanks for another great video 🙏

For what it's worth, I think the flower essence sounds awesome and something I am going to have to do when my own roses come in BUT using store bought flowers for anything but decoration is kinda risky because they have a ton of pesticides on them. Even if you don't think they do or even if you wash the petals, it would still be risky and not worth the risk. I've seen people try to drink teas with flowers they bought from the store, or make floor washes from store bought flowers and it freaked me out because you should NEVER drink anything with fresh store bought flowers. If you want a flora tea please buy dried food grade flowers, and if you want to make tinctures or essences please buy cosmetic grade flowers. There's also a lot more small flower farmers now that you might be able to purchase from and see if they have something about their pesticides on their site/ask them directly.
But to reiterate please NEVER ingest anything you've made with store bought (even if it's a special florist be careful) flowers. If you have sensitive skin please be careful if you make anything with store bought flowers and do a patch test.

This was really fun and different, Ivy - thanks for the tour! I've spent a good chunk of time in Mexico, and found that my culture shock came when I got back home. I really missed the gatherings in the town squares and having fun conversations with strangers. My biggest culture shock issue was this: in Mexico they close streets for religious holiday processions. At home, they blocked a busy street and had traffic cops for the opening of a Krispy Kreme donut shop. It made me feel that our society was so bereft in comparison. Side note: WOW! That made a LOT of incense cones!

I totally agree with the ending comments -- I feel that starting late 90's it has become a throw away society..no one tries to fix things, if a toy breaks the kids don't care cause the parents will buy a new one instead of a life lesson being learned that if you don't take care of something its gone, no replacement, and things are not being made to last anymore i.e I bought my microwave in 1989 for Uni and it finally gave up last year, my wash machine was 2007 and it gave out 2020 it's replacement already needs to be fixed? like wow hmm I wonder what back to basics would look like being taught to people, ah well....thank you for sharing

Thanks for sharing. Loved the video, and you are correct. We are spoiled and wasteful here. I've been trying to reuse glass jars. Burn cardboard in the fireplace. Use it for getting the fire started. Buying more eco friendly detergents or making are own. Buying wool balls and not using dryer sheets. We've bought the last of ours recently and won't be buying more. I need to completely stop buying plastic water bottles. I've been donating household stuff to my work or thrift stores, excess dry goods we have a shelve at work to bring stuff and people can take what they need. I drop fruit and veggies that are going to waste in the wooded area around us so the wild life can have it. The stuff is still good, not giving rotting stuff to animals. Feeding them and the earth. I joke that once I am gone from here and we move that there will be random veggies and fruit growing in the small wooded area out back, lol.
I've yet to McKee my own cones, that looked fun. So glad that you and hubby enjoyed yourself.

School also do uniforms in Brazil. One thing that we learn there is that if anything happens with the kid outside of school like an accident since many kids use public transit, the police, ambulance or hospital can identify the kid easier through the school uniform as most kids don't walk with documents of any sort. The hospital could contact the school and verify identity and parents contact.

We have school uniforms in schools in the U.K. with different colours, different school logos on jumpers etc. it does prevent discrimination & also makes it easier to identify which school a child is from.
I loved this video, you chatting while crafting, very cosy atmosphere like I was sitting across the table from you.
I had a huge culture shock when I went to Israel at age 16 (1981)…..people taking their goats 🐐 & chickens 🐓 with them on public transport, like small buses 🚌 was so chaotic 🤪
Also women not being allowed into places of worship if menstruating 🤬
    Also very little protein.
I’m a bit shocked that recycling ♻️ isn’t a big thing in the states. It’s a big thing in Kent, England where I live. You have 4 different types of bins the council collect.

    • @IvyTheOccultist
      @IvyTheOccultist  4 месяца назад +2

I love the school uniforms - they're adorable!! And yeah about recycling... We do have recycling here but it's not like the UK. We only have 1 bin that everything goes into. It costs extra to get recycle bins so some households just don't recycle at all. Our "1 bin" recycling is so messy that a lot of times people throw in regular trash that can't be recycled and it completely defeats the point. Where I grew up, we were technically outside city limits so we didn't have trash or recycling service. All the trash we produced went straight to the dump/land fill.
And yes, the protein thing is really interesting! We don't eat many carbs in this household so it's tough traveling to countries where carbs are the majority of the diet. (I understand why... it's a lot cheaper than protein.)
People taking their goats and chickens on public transportation sounds hilarious!!!

TBH, the only time I had something stolen from me was in North America. And that is because I am from South America. There is so much fear mongering in North America against other countries. For sure you have to be careful and smart, and that is also valid to the USA and Canada. You don't wanna travel anywhere and decide to go alone at night in the middle of a dangerous place you don't know. That is valid to everywhere in the planet including the USA and Canada.

I graduated HS in 2006, and I was raised Christian and was still a part of the church and religion at that time. The church I was a part of my senior year took about 15 kids and a few adults to New Orleans (Nah-Lens 😂) the summer of ‘06 to help with cleanup and rebuild from hurricane Katrina.
Once in LA, we camped out (literally tarp showers and sleeping bags on the floor) at this church with a bunch of other really small groups from other churches around the country. I’d estimate there were probably 50-75 of us total. We were split into groups for the week, and each group was assigned a cleanup project. Some groups did parks, some did housing, etc…
My group in particular was assigned to this small group of 3-5 duplex houses owned and rented out by a lady named Sue. These duplexes were still boarded up and abandoned, completely untouched since hurricane Katrina in ‘05. The job of my group was to pry open these duplex houses, carry every single thing left inside out to the curb for the dump truck to pick up, tear down the drywall/plaster/slat and empty that all out to the curb… basically empty out and strip this housing down to the studs so they could de-mold the structures and start rebuilding housing.
There was a phrase we used and is fairly well known throughout those who have helped down there and throughout the whole experience… it’s called “The Katrina Smell”… when I tell you there are no words to describe that smell, and not ONCE outside of that mission have I EVER smelled anything even remotely close to that smell… I mean it.
However, you adjusted to it for the most part fairly quickly, though not ever completely, and the grim and very surreal reality of the situation quickly overpowered the stench.
I cried. I CRIED. I BAWLED. You hear on tv how people were stranded on their roofs and needing rescue, but when you pry open those houses a year after the disaster to find literally every single personal and family effect these people had in this world strewn about, soaked and molding, dead fish still in the fish tanks, pictures, heirlooms, dishes in the sink… and the raw reality hits you that they LITERALLY had ZERO time to pack or secure anything, they just had to jump up from whatever day-to-day stuff they were doing and head for the roof… it hits HARD.
The first side of the first duplex we opened had been occupied by a black husband, wife, and their two daughters, one in jr high and one in or recently graduated from high school. And they were such a wonderful, lovely looking family. I’m deeply empathic. And this is where it got hard for me. You could feel the love of that family for each other and for their home, even after it had been completely demolished. The very back room on this side of this duplex was the girls’ shared room. When I opened that bedroom door, I stood there looking around and just FEELING and crying for nearly 20 mins before I could bring myself to touch any of it. And when I was able to start, I had to carry out pictures, diaries, birth control… it just felt SO wrong to be taking everything these people had had and tossing it to the curb like it was complete trash. And I’m not talking about the tv or the fancy things… I mean the pictures, the diaries, the heirlooms… the things that had MEMORIES and MEANT something to them… their WHOLE LIFE… on the curb like it was veggies gone bad from the crisper drawer.
The older daughter had either just graduated in ‘05 or was about to start her senior year (I’m assuming the former). I found her senior tassel while emptying that room and respectfully asked Sue if I could keep it as a reminder of the experience, to which she replied “of course.” I still have it to this day.
When I returned home after that week in New Orleans, I was different. I was CHANGED. When I got back to my house, I went straight to my room, threw my shit on the floor, sat on my bed, and just cried while looking around at everything I had. Until that point in my life, my family always had what we needed but didn’t have a lot of financial room for extra and extravagant things or trips, but for the first time in my life, I felt SO INCREDIBLY SPOILED. I truly noticed all of the meaningful things I had, and also all of the absolute SHIT I had. And it was… transforming. That was the first and one of the biggest lessons I ever experienced in gratitude and perspective in my LIFE. It was so intense and absolutely life-changing. Sometimes it takes traveling elsewhere to really slam some raw perspective down on what you truly have and what is grossly taken for granted.
The energy in the 9th ward where the levy broke (which was repaired by the time we were there) was overwhelming. The energy of that area was HEAVY, and DARK, and literally felt like pure dread and terror. When I touched the levy where the old section connected to the new, I couldn’t breathe, my heart began racing… it was overpowering. 😵‍💫
At the time we were there, a whole year after Katrina, they estimated that if cleanup and rebuilding continued at the rate it was going that July of 2006, it will take New Orleans about 25+ years to recover to pre-Katrina condition… 😢
    🤘🏻💜💜💜

I would avoid store bought flowers not because of the energies, but because most of them are treated with lots of pesticides. If you use them to make incense that will be burned, the smoke you are breathing might be carrying harmful stuff straight to your lungs. While smoke alone is already bad, smoke with harmful chemicals can be worse. But since there is no research on this matter, I am just guessing. Take my opinion with a grain of salt anyway.
