The Honda XR150L is coming to North America, and I was thinking that it would make a good 1st bike for me. Any thoughts? The KTM Duke 200 is basically the same price as one more gear, fuel injection, and a lot more tech. I'm wondering if the Honda would still be more reliable, even though it's a little slower and smaller? As an instructor, you've got a perfect excuse to go and test drive and buy one today! I really enjoyed this review. Thank you. Happy trails. IEdward in Irvine California
I’ve got one on order so I will be doing a review when I get it. From what I’ve read, the Xr150 will be more trail, slower roads where KTM Duke 200 is good enough for highway too. You can’t beat Honda reliability but KTM makes a great product too. If you can ride both go for the one that gets you excited more. If you get the XR let me know!
I don't think the clutch is excessively sensitive. It's not difficult to find the bite point, without stalling the engine, even when its idling. It may be more sensitive than some bigger bikes with more flywheel mass, but its no worse than other small bikes I've ridden.
@@leeridefar Do you find the engine braking very strong on this bike ? Comparing it with 2-strokes I've ridden in the past, the engine braking seems to be really strong, especially if the throttle is completely closed.
I sorta wish I got this instead of my 2019 Honda Grom. But hind sight is 20/20 as they say. I haven't been riding in a couple of years now so I need to redo learners/MST again. :O

The 390 is not any bigger than the 200.. the engine has bigger displacement and the headlight and instrument panel is different but the chassis and everything else is identical.. for a 6foot tall dude though, that could be small..
You must keep the revs much higher than every other bike to avoid the stall. KTM runs a very lean fuel map. As a beginner bike this will be frustrating for the rider. They will get used to it.
Its a fun bike for sure, but I would say start with a Duke 390 or a Ninja 400 and move up from there. I'm finding that I am going to need to go to an MT-07 or an SV650 after this. Definitely a very rev happy bike that is actually quite fun to push sometimes. Not enough power for driving around Houston though. lol

Toby. If you can find a good deal on the KTM 200 go for it. If you can afford to spend more on MT 03 do that. The MT 07 would be great too. As long as you’re not doing sustained long highway riding the KTM 200 will be great for you. I am 100 kg and 190 cm tall and I was quite comfortable riding the KTM 200 around.
@@leeridefar the KTM is alot cheaper in Australia $4500 brand new with all the warrentys etc compared to a used Mt 03 which is $6000 and new Mt 07 at $11500.
Bro im in great confusion to get this or 250duke, i hav test ridden both i felt 200 was more punchy than 250 y is that? 250 has 5hp more nd 5nm more than 200duke, the 250 gets its power lately while 200 is giving instant takeoff, i even got choice of Rc200 2022model which get everything features wise when compared to these both.
Lee, I feel it's currently NOT WORTH IT, and a let down model, here in Canada. One of the biggest factors for me is the Price vs Value and this scores very low for me. I'll never buy a brand new bike, as they deprecate so quickly the day they leave the dealership, so I don't know the MSRP's of any motorcycles. Did you say they are $4000 brand new with 0 kms out the door.? Did you say you paid $3000 for yours? How many kms did your have when you bought it.? I dont see ANY USED at all, here in Alberta. Let's compare it to the Duke 390; I can buy a 2015 Duke 390 for less, however the Duke 200 was only available in Canada in 2020 I believe, so to be fair, lets compare it to a 2020 Duke 390...
I could be wrong about this Stats, as I only looked up two sources. You said the Duke 200 weights 275lbs, correct.? I see it listed at 140kgs which is 308lbs, right.? The 2020 Duke 390 is listed at 149kgs, which is 328lbs. Do you think this is a significant difference.? I say it's not.! Next, I looked-up the seat height to be 823mm, which equals 32.4" (did you said it was 31", I need to re-watch this video) Did you know the 2020 Duke 390 is 830mm, or 32.6" again I don't feel 7mm difference is that significant. The Duke 200, has 19 kW or 25 HP, while the 390 has 32 kW aka 43.4 HP. The Duke 200 has the old 390 gauges (not the new fancy colour TFT display) The old 390 headlight, (with no heat-sink) so for me, the Duke 200 is NOT WORTH it. Give it 3-years, when we will start to see some used, perhaps then it can be an option as the Used Price should be far less then the Used Price of a 390 Duke (which is only 373cc, I know) I wanted the Duke 200 to be similar to the Grom in weight (225lbs) and seat height of 29.9".
Weight difference is no significant. However every pound counts the lower the weight. Seat height is 31.9in. The point nine did not come through in the audio enough. Is a stand sporty bike height. Only the Z400 is lower at 30.9in which isn’t much but again every bit counts. The TFT display is nice but if you’re a newer rider. Stop looking down :) Given the popularity of the Duke 390 and the Duke 200 being unknown. There are deals there. Better value for the Duke 200 Currently. Both the Duke 200 and the Duke 390 are not bikes riders will ride for a long period of time. They’ll ride it and move on. Good points to bring up Angel!
Anyway you could do a Duke 200 vs 390 video Lee.? I have owned a; Grom, CBR 125, VanVan 200, Konker KSM 200, DR 200 as well as every 300cc Class Sport Bike and also KTM RC 390. Based on this, I think I have a pretty good idea what a 200cc Sport Bike should be. The Duke 200 is a FAIL bcz the seat height is a bit too high and the weight is bit too much and the Price is much too expensive (but should be reasonable in about 3-years as a used Bike)
@Lee RideFar yes I'm aware of the brand but I see 2 listed for the duke 200 not sure which one , I see 9001112 and 9003112 , I have same model/year as you
Yes. $3800 is solid. If you keep it in great condition you won’t lose much on the sale. The best bike to sell is the new rider friendly Bike. Biggest market to sell too.
Im 5'4 can this bike be lowered if yes by how much please im buying my first bike and i wanna be able to flat foot it until i gain enough confidence (i have a very low inseam 😊)
Not sure. But start with making the seat thinner and get motorcycle boots with thicker soles. That should be enough. If not contact a KTM dealer or check a KTM Duke 200/390 forum for other people who have lowered theirs.
this guy supposedly trains new riders but can not even operate a clutch properly? What a squid? just rode one of these bikes and didn't notice any difference between it and over a hundred of other bikes I have ridden. Clutch action is actually quite nice as it typical of KTMs
Lawerence I have 50 bikes and this one stalls the easiest. When training new riders having the bikes with the easiest clutches helps a lot. The KTM was fine for more experienced riders but harder for newer riders. I want to make the experience of learning to ride, the easiest it can be.
This bike is good but let me review: Sound is not good seat is not comfortable limited extra sporty color no features engine gets hot in traffic I am telling you far better option:(1) CB hness 350 Honda , This is best best, but it's classic, if need a sport bike than duke 200 is fine
Depends on how long your legs are. If your in seam is 26in or 66cm you will be on your toes. However, motorcycle boots with a thicker sole will help a lot. It is a better bike for shorter riders. So is the Yamaha MT 03
I'm 5'4 and just picked up the 2022 model. My beta dirt bike sits at 35 inches so the duke feels really short to me. Loads of fun if you know how to feather the clutch and rip around town.
I've this bike and yes you do have to rev it a little more than most other bikes but nowhere near what he did,he either just can't operate a clutch and throttle very good or he's just over exaggerating. Lol
After using on a training lot for new riders for a year. It’s the bike that stalls the easiest. If you own it, it’s no problem as you get used to it. The engine runs lean so that makes it a little more challenging too. I still love the bike

u sounded like dead pool... 🤔
Have you seen both at the same time ?
@Lee RideFar Thank you. I am looking forward to your review.
I currently ave a Suzuki GSXS 125 as my noobie trainer bike, looking to get one of these as an alternative
man the bike looks good. and you look alike Ryan Reynolds. man keep safe and ride safe..
I was thinking about a grom and didn’t know about this 200 Duke. I think I’m changing my mind
Solid choice especially if you’re taller
I don't think the clutch is excessively sensitive. It's not difficult to find the bite point, without stalling the engine, even when its idling.
It may be more sensitive than some bigger bikes with more flywheel mass, but its no worse than other small bikes I've ridden.
Once you get used to it. It is ok.
@@leeridefar Do you find the engine braking very strong on this bike ? Comparing it with 2-strokes I've ridden in the past, the engine braking seems to be really strong, especially if the throttle is completely closed.
@@synergie8 Yes the engine braking is a bit strong from the low gearing.
@@kmb957 Thanks. I now also have a KLX230S dirt bike and the engine braking on that bike is noticably less than the Duke 200.
Best bike ever.
I sorta wish I got this instead of my 2019 Honda Grom. But hind sight is 20/20 as they say. I haven't been riding in a couple of years now so I need to redo learners/MST again. :O
Why, I'm guessing for the full size wheels?
@@kevincrockett5155 I'm not sure if your comment was for me and nor am I sure what it meant(?)
Hello , where did you buy the stunt cage . Is there a model number I should type for thus exactly bike cage .I have the sane bike. Thanks in advance 🙂
Crazy Iron. It’s in Russia so it might be hard to order one…
My dream bike was the ktm duke 390. Haven't had a bike in years. Had a 600. It's too much for me a small bike like this looks even better than the 390 for me. Been awhile since i rode now I'm randomly thinking of getting this lol
The Duke 200 and 390 look pretty similar! Flip a coin 😆
Note take mirrors off for when wife learns on it.
YES
I love your videos man, can you give us some rides and travel vlogs maybe?
I used to but they never got much attention. Never had a video go over 1000 views. People love reviews.
cool, very good review
0:13 Because I cannot even afford to get it from the dealership
In some markets the 390 is too much of a premium
Here in the philippines ktm duke200 comes with mrf tire that quiet cheap and slippery tire
Frustrating. Good tires make all the difference.
@@leeridefar yes sir its frustrating different stock tire it depends on the country
Informative video👍🏻
The 390 is not any bigger than the 200.. the engine has bigger displacement and the headlight and instrument panel is different but the chassis and everything else is identical.. for a 6foot tall dude though, that could be small..
Definitely small but manageable since it’s upright.
The stalling is due to dumping the clutch, let it go gradually and increase throttle as the bike begins to move; this is a rookie mistake.
You must keep the revs much higher than every other bike to avoid the stall. KTM runs a very lean fuel map. As a beginner bike this will be frustrating for the rider. They will get used to it.
Must be Canadian with that ou accent for the word out that really stands out to Americans.
Its a fun bike for sure, but I would say start with a Duke 390 or a Ninja 400 and move up from there. I'm finding that I am going to need to go to an MT-07 or an SV650 after this. Definitely a very rev happy bike that is actually quite fun to push sometimes. Not enough power for driving around Houston though. lol
Definitely. A lot of big interstates in Houston!
I just bought this bike and im so glad I did it, bike es light and even with that im still struggling to handle the bike at low speeds or in traffic, for a rider with no experience at all its an awesome bike i fucking love it🤩
@@daniacosta3806 Its a great bike to practice on and learn if you are new rider. I recently upgraded mine and got the MT-07. But the KTM 200 was a lot of fun to drive for sure.
@@mustangpilot6786 I’m not even thinking about an upgrade, just to let you know, haven’t even reached 60mph🤣 I want to enjoy every ride and always being safe
@@mustangpilot6786 but the mt-07 looks and for sure its an awesome bike
Nice video but the sound is very low.
I’ll keep that in mind for future videos
please go for MT-15, FAR AMAZING MILEAGE AND BIKE PRICE
It’s not available in North America.
Hello I'm considering this bike but I am not sure.
If you can find a great deal on it but it. If not buy something else.
@@leeridefar y
Being 107 meters tall is quite tall since one meter is 39.37 inches.
You are correct! 😆
Power comparison between this and the other single cylinder cb300r? People say the CB is peppy are the power comparable?
The KTM Duke pulls as hard as the cb300f. KTM gets good strong power from their 200
thinking on getting one that’s 2.7k rn new for my first bike do you still recommend it
Absolutely!
It’s like a grown up grom sort of
Exactly. Since naked upright bikes are so popular. You have a Grom of all sizes!
Looking to get into bikes so will be a new rider, biggish guy at 179cm 90kg (5,11 198pounds for you Americans). Question is would a 200 be to small for someone like me? And how do they compare to the Yamaha Mt 03 and 07 range?
Thanks in advanced.
(also note I live in the hills so not much highway riding would be done)
If you can get a used mt03 with less than 5,000kms or so that would be a great way to go. Yamaha has the reliability over KTM.
Get whatever the best deal is. Maybe not the RC as it is less comfortable.
Hey man, does this new version still have overheating issues?
I haven’t had a problem with it. Maybe in India where it can get very very hot?
@@leeridefar yeah, I'm from the Philippines and it can get very hot, I bought the bike, and its really great!
You say no good on the highway... what is a suitable cruising speed? Can I highway at 100km?
is it no good as a commuter?
Yes. It will do 100kmh on the highway. It will just be almost at the upper range of engine revs. It will do highways but it will vibrate a lot.
I bought mine 2nd hand for a very cheap price. I don't want to buy a new one too
Stalls easy but a good training bike, hmm .
When I called a KTM dealer about they said there is a $400 aftermarket solution for it. Thanks KTM!
Very good video!!!
Where did you get the orange crash bars?
Crazy iron from Russia. We ordered it before the Ukrainian war. Not so sure that’s possible now
I could be wrong about this Stats, as I only looked up two sources.
Stop looking down :)
Given the popularity of the Duke 390 and the Duke 200 being unknown.
The Duke 200 is a FAIL bcz the seat height is a bit too high and the weight is bit too much and the Price is much too expensive (but should be reasonable in about 3-years as a used Bike)
i mean what did you expect when dropping the clutch
I have 50+ motorcycles in my school fleet and this one stalls the easiest. It’s unnecessary.
Do you have link of the stunt cage ? I see they have 2 frontw listed for the duke 200 .n
Crazy Iron
@Lee RideFar yes I'm aware of the brand but I see 2 listed for the duke 200 not sure which one , I see 9001112 and 9003112 , I have same model/year as you
So would this bike be good enough to get to and from work 24 miles on the highway there and 24 miles back home
Not a 70mph highway but a 60mph. Yes
hows the gas consumption? how many kilometers per liter?
3-4L per 100kms. It really depends on what kind of riding you do. The most fuel efficient speed is 90kmh for most motorcycles and cars.
I'm torn between the 390 and the 200
If your riding requires more highways 390
Less highways 200
What fuel economy is this bike getting on average?
3-4L per 100kms or 60mpg to 75mpg
If you don't flog the bike everywhere, it will easily get 85mpg. I go 200+ miles per tank no problem.
where did you buy your crush guard
Crazy Iron from Russia (years ago!)
Ryan Reynolds reviews motorcycles?
What's the mpg/ kph?
75-80'ish mpg
can this bike be lowered??
Yes. They change the shock linkage. It’s better to try getting a thinner seat and taller boots first.
R Reynolds/B Affleck
I bought this for 3800 aud but it had ran 5000 km is that a good deal?
Yes. $3800 is solid. If you keep it in great condition you won’t lose much on the sale. The best bike to sell is the new rider friendly
Bike. Biggest market to sell too.
It’s a real motorcycle vs a Grom.
I am almost 90 kg and 1.82 higth . Is this motorcycle for me? Can he drive whit me :)
You’ll be good on this bike
Thanks for comment :)) 👋🤝😎💚
Bouta get mine for about 3k as my first bike🎉
Awesome!!!
I want to make the experience of learning to ride, the easiest it can be.
how much your CRASH GUARD SIR?
$533 Canadian dollars after tax and shipping
@@leeridefar oh thats too expensive i cant afford
This bike is good but let me review: Sound is not good
seat is not comfortable
limited extra sporty color
no features
engine gets hot in traffic
I am telling you far better option:(1) CB hness 350 Honda , This is best best, but it's classic, if need a sport bike than duke 200 is fine
Cb300r as well
Would this be to talk for a guy at 5'3 or 5'4
Depends on how long your legs are.
Loads of fun if you know how to feather the clutch and rip around town.
how tall are you dude ?
189cm or 6’2”
@@leeridefar thanks )
I’m 191 , just starting and a bit worried if it’s not gonna be to small for me
Im a 15 yr old girl that is very interested to get this one as my first bike to start learning. Is this still too big?
Nope! Great size for you. Just make sure you are tall enough. The seat height is a little high.
The 2015 is better
They are powerful good machine's but not comfy
No. Definitely not an all day ride. But great for city short rides.
ive managed a 11 hour ride on mine and it wasnt as bad as i thought
The 390 was too slow for me so the 200 must really be a dog
