  • Hiking at Woodbridge Land Trust-Blue Trails and Bethany Farms in Woodbridge and Bethany, Connecticut.
This is a trail I found simply by driving down route 67 coming from Seymour and going into Woodbridge. There was a trail kiosk or sign on the left hand side of the road. I made note of it to be able to check it out when I had more time.
From the trailhead on route 67 the trail proceeded inward and very quickly there was a choice to make. You could go left or go straight. We chose to go straight. This path traversed a large portion of wetlands over raised wooden planks. The planks were a little worn and creaky, but were in good enough shape to walk over. during the hike you could hear loads of birds that are often found in marshy areas. We reached a road where we the path continued upward toward Round Hill.
This area of the trail was a completely different terrain. It was a steady uphill climb towards the top of round hill. Areas of the trail were in need of a little trail maintenance of trimming back the weeds and branches which had grown over the trail. Just past round hill the trail continued in between a few large houses after shortly after that the trail was completely blocked by some trees that had fallen down, so we went back toward the start.
After getting back to where we started, we decided to go left where we had gone straight before. WE heard a babbling brook and the path proceeded to a road. The path continued onto the other side of the road. This trail continued to follow the brook and we found out this parcel was Bethany Farms. This area has about 2.5 miles of trails documented on a sign just after a bridge you first walk over.
We did a short loop on this property which proceeded up a hill and along a ridge line for a short while. We followed to ridge trail and the big tree trail until we got back to the bridge where this part of the trail had started. We then went back to the start of where we parked. In all, we did 3.5 miles. There are enough trails to check out for a much longer hike if one wanted to.
