I am having a heck of a time trying the figure out what strings to use for the G tuning on a electric lap steel. I got some form GHS, But I believe they are for a dobro or a Accoustic lap steel. Any help would be great.. I am looking to tune GBDGBD

In my case, take 2 strings off before my mind exploded! Good for you to be able to process all that. Next stop resonating harp!

The resonator guitar was originated by the Dopyera Brothers, hence the DOBRO.

Sounds great thanks for the lesson.
The latest craze of not calling a resonator a dobro is ok, BUT it’s not such a big deal. Resonator guitars were only around originally from 1927 to 1941 and were invented by John Dopyera who was part owner of National he then left by 1929 with his brothers and started Dobro which was short for DOpyera BROthers. They then bought National in 1935 and were National Dobro. Amps were invented and WWII came and demand dropped and went out of business. The blues and dobro sound became popular agin in the 50s and resonators started manufacturing again in the early 60s when Dobro reopened . What to call them …Dobro seemed well deserving and was common until 15 years ago. Epiphone (Gibson) bought Dobro and started manufacturing them again in 2012. I’m good either way but I personally have no issue remembering the inventor and main manufacturer for most of the years and plus it’s easier to say.

With respect, Dobro, although a brand name by owned by Gibson, has become a generic term for pretty much all lap style resophonic slide guitars. The same as Kleenex, Thermos, Band-Aid, and Jacuzzi are, and so on. It isn’t that big of a deal man.

A better comparison would be Kleenex, just sayin’!
