  • last March i planted 2500 trees on my property. This is just a little update to show how they are doing, they had a slow start due to a drought. Almost all of them have survived and are starting to grow.

Would you consider making another video update on this? It's been nearly 3 years since. I moved from Norway to the UK and having travelled the country, I'm disappointed with how few forests there are, so it makes me happy to see land be reclaimed to the trees.

When you do the fencing a good practice is to mark the first and last posts with data plates so you can record size of the area fenced and the year you did it along with fencing between land plots who paid for it. Copper pipe cut down an edge then flattened out gives you a copper plate you can use a stamp set to stamp the data into before you nail it to the post/building you want to keep track of.
Why limit yourself to what the human memory can remember when a few minutes can put a hard date on the project you can remember later.
If you want to improve the bee food sources pick up some flower bulbs and just plant them around the field. Over time they will spread from the single bulb you plant creating clusters of flowers that you know the bloom time of.

The eye you give that thistle at about 10:43 is just priceless! You've just said that the tree is doing really, really well, and then the thistle beside you seems to have done equally well 😅
I just love what you're doing and wish I could do the same.

They look like they're doing really well. Alders grow crazy fast, they'll be six foot or more by next year. You could mulch around the trees with woodchip to reduce weed competition, but not really doable on your scale. It will be amazing to see the progress in 15 years, will be unrecognisable!

Such helpful information, I’m glad you gave growth comparisons, 4 years and 2 years. The native trees (alder) seem to thrive and grow fastest. It be fun to see how a fast growing locust tree does there, it’s a hardwood but grabs nitrogen from the air so it helps its grow speed (3 to 4 feet in a season).

Have you ever considered eucalyptus for fuel wood? Eucalyptus Nitens is one of the fastest growing trees you can plant in the UK. Great for soaking up carbon emissions, great for getting a good hardwood timber crop in half the time of a native tree and it would mean not cutting down natives for firewood. Something to consider! Love your channel.
I've planted a 3 year old E. Nitens by my local canal 2 years ago making it 5 now and its double the height of your four year olds. They're lovely trees too!

Kris if you deal with competion around trees, you have two options. Either cut the grass and weeds, or overrest the species they'll grow old and die... if you cut come back every 2-3 weeks it give the plants the idea of overgrassing and they will get stunted in their growth

The pond really fascinates me, I remember the video when you dug it, it looked like it would turn into a mud pit, become some overgrown swamp or something to me. But it really turned out great, I guess the fresh water supply really helps. I was going to ask if you intended to put some fish in there but seems that is already solved. You should really check out what kind of fish they are.
Have any plans to put something edible in there, crayfish or something?

Just remember where they are and they should take care of themselves. Although the strawberries may need a bit of wire to keep the bunnies off until they get established.
