- Why does it seem like the Furious Five always get left out in the Kung Fu Panda franchise? They were a big deal in the first movie and early Legends of Awesomeness episodes, but then they kinda disappear. In Kung Fu Panda 4, they're basically written out because, you guessed it, "voice actors are expensive." Seems like a weak excuse, especially when they could've just used the Legends of Awesomeness voice actors. I'm all for Po being the star, but the Furious Five were his inspiration to get into Kung Fu in the first place! I'd love to see Furious Five in action again, maybe in their own spin-off series or something, instead of introducing random new characters. And who's watching over the valley if they're off on their own adventures? Are the trainees ready for that responsibility? Plus, if everyone's learning Kung Fu, doesn't that mean there could be more potential villains could pop up too?

Tip 1: Do not hire expensive voice actors for major and reappearing characters.
They weren’t expecting the franchise to blow up so much when they made the first movie. The following movies, shorts, and shows were never planned.
@@StefanieBounderimo it's because they hire a list actors to voice these characters without thinking about how much they have to pay them in sequels so they introduce new characters instead

I heard that the reason they reduced the roles of the furious five was because of the contracts. I think for the films only the original celeb voice cast can voice them and that for each sequel they come in to voice they are contracted to get a pay rise each time.
If true. It's possible that at the beginning they didn't think Kung fu Panda would be a massive hit and they thought that they'd have one sequel at best.
Also, Jackie Chan who voices Monkey I think is busy now as a politician for the Chinese Communist party. So... it may've been a case of being too busy to do the film for the furious five.
See, this is why I'm not generally a fan of celeb voice castings. You have to be lucky that they're good at it. (They were thankfully in Kung fu panda) and you're spending too much on Star Power imo when the film should be able to carey itself. A shit film cannot be saved by a star studded cast.
To me the reason why the Furious Five don’t work anymore is not just Voice Actors being Expensive but more of that they done everything with the Furious Five, Legends of Awesomeness already expanded they Lore so much there’s little left to do with them, the only exception are Tigress and Viper, but a Spinoff Movie could make it work.
Honestly the furious five were one of the reasons I enjoyed the first movie so much and I hope we get to see more of them ❤️ their early adventures as a team deserve its own movie honestly

I mean, let’s be honest after the first film they really weren’t all that relevant besides Tygress. Even in the show, it’s only when they got focus episodes. Really they just need their own spin off show or movie. Once Po passed them he didn’t have a mean to be inspired by them, like of course he’s gonna love them no matter what as his friends. They need their own independence to remind people of what makes them, cool

From a writing perspective, it gets hard to write that many characters, esp after the original story where they all had an actual purpose. Trying to make new stories and include premade characters is when you get into scenarios where returning characters just have no purpose

But I think the truth is the reason they aren’t in the movie is because it’s not their story.
And it’s another hurdle for Po, since the furious five had been in someway helpful for Po in the other movies.
But even in 3, the only one that really contributed at the end was Tigris.

Well I thought of it as Po was slowly growing away from them. As in he no longer needs their help to beat bad guys or advice. But I guess that was just me.

That's only part of the truth. The other reason is that they don't have a reason to be in this movie. It's Po's story now, it's no longer a team effort, much as I hate to say it. Plus, if they did come back, they'd just get cooked by The Chameleon, as if they hadn't learnt their lessons from Tai Lung, Lord Shen and General Kai.
