More than a "compact" subwoofer, this is a really music powerhouse. At the beginning I admit that my feelings was not that good, the idea was to deal with an expensive audiophile stuff because of the name (and the marketing), but thanks to your sneak peak it seems to be really worthy. Thanks again. Regards and many compliments for your channel.
I attended the launch by the distributor in South Africa. This thing is unbelievable! We listened to to dual Lokis with TuneTots and and Alexia. Both presentations were off the charts. I have TuneTots with RELs in my rig. I can tell you that REL T7s vs Loki is chalk and cheese. Unfortunately very expensive. But quiet something 😳
At that price you should be comparing it to the REL G25. Comparing it to the T7 is silly. Put otherwise, for the price of a stereo pair of these one could get a stereo pair of S/510 line array 3-stacks.
Tune tots are crap for the money, they are mess in the frequency response and suffer from poor port distortion, they are not neutral in the least, they are a total waste of money. For the price of the tune tots, you can buy ATC SCM45a studio monitors, that wipe the floor with those overpriced Wilsons.
Adrian - thanks for bringing us "delicious looking" gear via your channel. Re: High-Pass Delay feature - while I've not looked it up, my guess is that it only works when hi-pass filter output is active and it's to delay your mains when sub(s) are positioned behind the mains and further from the listening position. Not sure if the delay feature is expressed in distance (feet) or milliseconds (with 15"=1ms when using 1250'/sec speed of sound). Be sure to let us know how they sound . . .
I’ve no doubt it’s a superb sounding sub. Adrian quite rightly stated you’re better off with stereo subs. That’s equal to the cost of a family car, or, a down payment on a property! I have multiple Rel subs, which in total cost less than one of them. There are essentially 3 settings to play with a Rel. Gain or intensity, crossover and phase. Even so, it took me months of experimentation, trial and error to get them dialled in to my listening preference. I recently purchased a premium OLED tv and had to employ a calibrator to optimise picture performance. I think I’d need to employ an audio technician to help dial that sub in. When it comes to hifi, I’m a 2 channel man. A minimalist and a purest. I believe simplicity is the key to purest performance. I like to set a component up with minimal effort, then forget about it. Not have to keep making adjustments according to what I’m listening to. That is an expensive sub with a complex user interface. For that amount of money, you would have thought that the least Wilson could do, is make life simpler and more convenient by equipping the unit with a remote control!
Please, no more mindless unboxing videos. I truly love your crazy, unscripted videos and honest+bold opinions so give us something better than unboxing, please!
I am running 2 JTR Captivator RS2s in my home theater. After seeing this, I was thinking "damn, for just a couple hundred dollars more I could have got ONE of these instead" 😂 No, not really, but it is pretty
This subwoofer is being discussed in r/audiophile (reddit). Apparently the Sub plate amp installed is the same as some generic subs including Dayton audio. I know it has a different implementation but I mean for the price difference, it feels like 80% of the price is just for the Wilson brand. I do like the Wilson design of speakers though.
every company claims most of what the consumer is paying for is the 'tuning' of the gear rather than the cheap parts, maybe 40% cost is because of the famous name? not more
@@TheDanEdwards even if thats the case, how can you be assured that Wilson didn’t cheap out on these other parts and assembly given that they can slap a generic amp on to it for that price? And lets do say they did all the state of the art work on the cones, crossover and assembly, wouldn’t you want to put a better amp in their to maximize all the work you did rather than put a generic amp? Anyway you are already charging more than 10grand might as well make it 12-15grand to truly make it high end. It doesn’t make sense for a high end brand. Again unless probably someone opens the box and proves doubters wrong the price is again too much for what we can see outside(despite the sound). But then again I digress as we are talking about Wilsons so if one can afford their speakers, this is probably pancakes for them. At the end of the day they want the matched design and the name.
@@ydid687 probably but REL 25s and line arrays are also tuned well and they are still cheaper than this with at least better amp installed. Again I just can’t make sense of the price with the part included. It still is mostly brand name imho.

@@DTMHMK Really, a Google search has removed one from a Wilson speaker and shown you each of the individual components within the amp is the same, or just "Oh look, they look the same as far as controls and spacing?" Yep, the latter. No one's disassembled an actual Wilson amp yet.
What's a bit strange is Wilson gives frequency response specs for the Lōkē's built-in amp on their web site… but no measurements for the actual subwoofer.
While I don’t buy my Wilson and McIntosh gear from this retailer - something about him just rubs me the wrong way - it’s nice that he took the time to present this Dayton powered Wilson sub.😊
eh i dont love the design decision of casters. i think id prefer if they added furniture slider type feet to the bottom, with a threaded hole in the center of each foot for spikes
I'd rather get two duel 18" JTR subwoofers with 4000wrms for around the same price geez wiz that's alot of money for such a small subwoofer I'm assuming is 12". The features are pretty cool but as someone said it's a mere copy of a different brands design which doesn't justify the price! "that only goes down to 30 cycles" - If you bothered to check the specs online, Wilson claims 20 Hz to 250 Hz (+/- 1 dB). That's pretty impressive for a relatively small subwoofer box.
@@TheDanEdwards I sure don't believe those specs. Especially when this subwoofer was designed to fit in small spaces. It doesn't even make sense for a subwoofer to have those specs. Those specs are a very optimistic wish.

Awaiting the review of the subwoofer because I've ordered the Wilson Audio TuneTot speakers. Then get either REL reference subwoofer or Loke?

Cool features, looks good. I would much prefer to have the DSP controls and screen on the front of the sub.
This $9000 subwoofer uses off the shelf Dayton plate amp that's $329 retail, model number 300-8012, my last comment posting about this was deleted
Absolutely the same plate amp with a Wilson label on it.
And Made in Taiwan!!! For $8,500! Not as bad as the PS Audio Aspens being Made in China for $35,000!!! 😧

This is using a custom version of the svs sta-1000d amplifier. Many of us are familiar from the px-13 ultra lineup from a few years ago

The term "different implementation" is silly - by that comparison, all class AB amps are the same, they just vary in implementation.
I truly admire the folks that have the ability to afford these gear. Eight thousand dollars for a subwoofer that small is insanely incomprehensible.

yeah i imagine REL No. 25 is enough and even extra
Every speaker system, even their Chronosonic XVX, is better served with dedicated subs.
