    Hi Lora!
I’ve got a question. I want to make placemats with the toothbrush rug technique. You mentioned in a previous video about doing a tighter weave for placemats so stem ware doesn’t fall over…I totally agree. How would I do a tighter weave with the toothbrush method? Narrower strips of fabric? Craft cord as the runner? I’d like to do oval shape and/or rectangle.

Really, REALLY good questions & thoughts, Caren!
An easy answer for our CROCHETED placemats is simply use my favorite "P" size hook.
With our Toothbrush placemats there are several options. I LOVE your idea of using Bonnie Craft Cord as your runner. You might also consider our brand new Cora Craft Cord! It's 100% cotton & washes beautifully! (I think I'll try this as well!)
Personally, I normally use the same 2" wide fabric strips for my Toothbrush placemats. I simply focus on pulling my stitches tighter than I normally do with my rugs. For my rugs, I keep my stitches fairly open. For my placemats, I close them down a bit more.
Yes, you can absolutely cut your fabric narrower. I prefer a tighter stitch using 2" wide fabrics, vs. 1 - 1 1/2" width stitches. Taking into consideration of course the WEIGHT of the fabric you have chosen for your working strip. (The heavier the fabric, the narrower the strips.)
At the end of the day, it's a lot about preference, however.
I would love to hear your thoughts as you begin your journey using the Toothbrush method for placemats! Stay in touch, okay?

Happy to keep in touch! My weaving journey started last year with making placemats and potholders using the sock loop basic over/under weave on a loom.
The toothbrush rag method has been something I want to try. As many others have said, your toothbrush video is by far the best I’ve seen.
I think using cord as the runner might be a winner. I’m going to be placing an order with you soon.

No Dusty, I am still intimidated by it all. I do have the supplies in a separate bin from my quilting, so I just look at it, and think " Will I be successful ?"@@DustyCrochet
