Cluj-Napoca/ Kolozsvár/ Klausenburg is the second-most populous city in Romania. Geographically, it is roughly equidistant from Bucharest, Budapest and Belgrade. Located in the Someșul Mic river valley, the city is considered the capital of the historical province of Transylvania.
On the site of the city was a pre-Roman settlement named Napoca. After the AD 106 Roman conquest of the area, the place was known as Municipium Aelium Hadrianum Napoca. The first written mention of the city's current name - as a Royal Borough of the Kingdom of Hungary - was in 1213 under the Medieval Latin name Castrum Clus. Many craft guilds were established in the second half of the 13th century, and a patrician stratum displaced the older landed elite in the town's leadership.
In 1541, Cluj became part of the Principality of Transylvania after the Ottoman Turks occupied the central part of the Kingdom of Hungary. In the 17th century Cluj suffered from great calamities, epidemics of the plague and devastating fires. Turkish sovereignty ended, but found the city bereft of much of its wealth.
Cluj along with Transylvania became a part of the Kingdom of Romania under the Treaty of Trianon of 1920. Today, the city is one of the most important academic, cultural, industrial and business centres in Romania.

@@a.d.5478 Я знаю румынскую историческую литературу, она не имеет ничего общего с фактами, ее цель лишь доказать румынское присутствие. Возможно, постепенно и там ситуация изменится. Подобно тому, как некоторые лингвисты правильно относят развитие румынского языка к Балканам, так и уже через несколько десятилетий можно будет признать, что румыны появились в Трансильвании после венгров (что подтверждается византийскими, немецкими и др. историческими источниками).
