  • Erythropoiesis is the process of red blood cell production in the body. In the first weeks of early embryonic life, primitive, nucleated red cells are produced in the yolk sac. And during the second trimester of gestation, red blood cells are mainly produced by the liver. Although some amount of them are produced by the spleen and lymph nodes. By the last month or so of gestation, and after birth, red cell are produced exclusively by the bone marrow.
So, in this video I discuss about the process of erythropoiesis, its regulation, lifespan and destruction of red cells, and some clinical correlations.
