a genuine miracle that corey still has a working voice today.
He almost lost his voice. In the vol 3 era he had to rest his voice. That's why it includes less screaming
Honestly though
@@captainjojojonas not only a bit less, he had to alter his scream to that high pitch
He barely does
@@campar1043The high pitch screams is almost the same technique as Iowa gutturals, but high. And if interesting, Vol. 3 kinda saved him from lose more of his voice but a big part of the vocal journey was even hurtful than Iowa.
We can even notice that in Iowa there's some high pitch screams who makes us remember Vol. 3.
And theres a video where they are practicing Vermilion during Iowa era and you can notice how he managed his iowa scream to the vol. 3 high pitches.
(I ain't criticizing you, just giving some curious information)
Those. Were. The. Days. Best. Slipknot. ever.
Could you imagine? Two days after self titled released being here? Oh man what I’d have given. I was in a prison school in Virginia and my buddy Luke had the album art so for a year all I knew of them was that cover. Felt like I already knew them by the time I heard them.
i disagreethis was just pure chaos. Corey‘s voice kept giving out he sounded exhausted all the time. Iowas was organized chais and much more brutal
I saw this ozzfest in c-bus ohio.
Agreed. No cell phones waving around
@@briananderson7104 amen to that brother
Imagine going to Ozzfest in 1999, never hearing of this little band from Iowa and you wander over this stage not expecting to meet the awaiting onslaught.
Did it, they blew the roof off the place in Phoenix 99. Them and Fear Factory were the reason that concert was one of the best I ever went to.
I was only 14 but not going to ozzfest 99 is STILL one of my biggest regrets. Never got to see pantera, missed a good sabbath reunion, and the beginning of slipknot. These guys came out SWINGING, like no other band before or since.
I had a similar experience in 1992. I went to see Megadeth and was curious why so many people were so excited to watch the support act. A band from Texas called "Pantera". And man, did they blow me away! After that Megadeth was almost boring.
Exactly what I did ……never been the saMe since (SIC)
Went to ozzfest 99 in st Louis and had no idea who they were. I’ll never forget seeing them walk off the bus in the parking lot at 11am as the opening act for the 2nd stage and just absolutely destroying everyone!
Joey snare sound like if you hit a frying pan. It’s so pure and so good
Kkkkkkkk is really true bro
Or like cowbells from devilish Memphis music
It’s like if a keg had kids with the sound of a 50 cal hitting a bank vault. And then clown ducked that offspring with a baseball bat
Sounds like Lars' st. anger snare. Unironically good.
Terrible in fact :D
Joey’s energy the whole time, especially when they first get on stage, will forever be unmatched. RIP to a legend
Joey was idol, guy made tens of thousands even hundreds young guys and girl in the world, start playing drums, Guy was definition of Love for his Job, and played each time like it was his last day on earth, each time a 200% performance, all the energy he had he gave it Us - maggots, on the edge of human body endurance, Inspiration for millions, true legend Joey... Did you figure it out yet?
You can literally watch their fans base grow as they play. The fact that Ozzy heard them and made the comment that they should have been on the main stage makes this all the better.
Corey Taylor tells the story of the first time he met Ozzy. It was on this tour, he was in catering sitting at a table with Sharon, Jack, and some of the other members of Slipknot and Ozzy walked up to Sharon asking something, and Sharon introduced Corey and the rest of the guys and Ozzy said “oh you’re the Slipknot guys, there’s 9 members right? I want to be the 10th”, and gave Corey a hug.
They put on a great show! It was INTENSE, loved being able to see them 2nd stage!
"Joey's snare sounds sick!"
St Anger Lars: :(
I'm sure Lars was actually just trying to rip off Joey's 1999 snare tone for the St. Anger recording.
Man that thing sounds like it's one rimshot away from popping!
@@hxopzw he did lmao
@@hxopzw Metallica pretty much tried to reach out to younger audiences since the early 2000s was were nu metal nearly reigned supreme with bands like Slipknot, Korn and SOAD and some having "tin snares" wich in those albums sounded pretty well tbh

it really was a cool snare sound and among my favorites. definitely evolved in the direct opposure way snares sounded in the 80's, everyone was tired of that at that point

The hype about Slipknot was so huge even before they released ACTUAL music. I remember I had a promo Slipknot VHS that I got in 1999. Early 99. And it was only 47!seconds long and it was a mashup of them and their masks and showing them taking promo band pics. And it played some of their demo stuff over the footage and I have never seen that VHS again. Even on eBay after all these years! I was so stoked about them before they even released their album. You would have fucking loved it. Lucky enough to see em early on myself ))
Never seen them, but did see Joey a few times at our local guitar center. He'd come here to do drum clinics.
For a 9-piece band, it never fails to amaze me how tight they play together - despite all the personal and business drama happening in the background. These OzzFest shows were absolutely insane.
