You CANNOT begin to imagine how much I needed that, I have so many projects to make in my mind, but nobody creative to talk to, or go to for advice. Who here hasn't seen the face of boredom every time you try talking to somebody about what it is that you actually do?

I've now been vlogging for just over a year and the more I delve into film making and editing the more passionate I become; you can't explain this to people, it can't be quantified, it is a passion that continues to drive you regardless of any criticism thrown at you. We create because we are creators and we are compelled to do so.

I know the feeling. I'm a filmmaker in training, and I feel like nobody wants to watch my stuff, nobody cares. But then I just watch other people's videos. They inspire me to keep creating.
    Just keep creating.

    Thanks Matti 😊
It feels so great to be a part of this community.
I struggle with anxiety almost every single day and one of the things that helps me out is just creating stuff.
However, my main focus is photography at the moment but I love video and movies too.
Through the process of choosing a photo and editing it until I'm happy with the result my self doubts have no space whatsoever to distract me.
I'm not suppressing them though they're still here. Beforehand, I acknowledge my doubts and put them aside while I'm in the creative process.
This way I can even use them to my advantage to fuel my creative engine.
I hope someone can pull something out of it 😃.

i feel this SO MUCH. sometimes, i finish editing and i’m like “what is this? why am i doing this? this isn’t what the people on top of youtube are uploading. this isn’t what my friends are doing with their time.” i always think “my videos aren’t cinematic so you’re not a filmmaker. you can’t use this because someone bigger already did. you suck why do you keep going.” but i always keep uploading and creating no matter what. (expert im super sick so idk how i’m going to make one today but i’ll figure it out) this video and that part of the doc really, really spoke to me. thanks.
    ps. another great video! xx

Wait until you're in a theatre with the first screening with a live audience for a film you completed and you'll be saying the same thing (at the rate you're going I'm sure you'll get there one day soon). Only you're in the room with them, watching the film through their eyes, feeling their emotions literally viscerally .... it's incredibly humbling and awkward but rewarding as anything can be.
It's good to question yourself, never to the point of paralysis (clearly you've figured that out). Make stuff that' important to you and the audience will find it's way. I just don't think you can dedicate the kind of time this stuff requires if you're not behind the idea in anyway.
PS: Matti, great video dude. Was bummed I couldn't make it to Peter's event on Saturday (family plans) was hype to see you guys all there.

I do care about the goal instead of the process and the only thing i get it's anxiety about getting approval and growth, so i realized that loving the now, embracing your process its the only way to make something real, independient and valuable.
Mental health it's really important for creatives.

There's a phrase "They see the glory but don't know the story". This documentary is an apt example of showcasing the story of creatives prior to their success. It's been one of my favourite documentaries ever since I watched it a few months ago for inspiration. Now it's my go- to whenever I need the encouragement. One of the things I've learnt and would always encourage others to do, is not wait for inspiration but create, study, and reflect regardless of your mood. Thanks for another great vid Matti!

Just wanted to say thanks for your message in this video. I've been wrestling for a while now with the idea of starting a VLOG and doing some personal projects just for the sake of breaking out of photography and learning video. Photos are wonderful, but there is something about the way video, music, and a good story come together. Videos like this one are inspiring. Thanks again, and keep doing what you're doing.

That documentary looks amazing man - added it to my 'must watch' note in my phone. Like you, I LOVE documentaries. It's actually the genre I want to pursue in film making the most :) thanks for this video...I really needed it today. Sometimes I get really bogged down working my shitty day jobs, and I feel like I'm wasting all my valuable time and energy which I could and SHOULD be spending on making films. It's really hard doing something you don't want to do when you know what it is you actually want to do. It's all about patience...I know I'll get there, I just have to keep on

Thank you! I needed to hear this. Started out just recently with photography and cinematography and felt scared and amazed at the same time, specially because I was watching people, even teens my age (18-22 year olds) and seeing how creative they are and knowledge they have about all this. It made me think is it even worth trying when sooo many people and "kids" my age are already there somewhere echoing in the world and I'm overhere with my entry-level dSLR with 5% knowledge. One thing I've discovered and learned is that photography and cinematography is such a large field, like there is soo much you can learn and that scared me, but that's the thing, because it's such a large field it lets you do, learn and create, so much. Thank you for this video, it was really inspiring and helpful 😄

Thanks Matti! I needed this. I'm just starting out in my video making journey. Love the videos you and Peter do to help us aspiring creatives. Thank you!

  • @paxtonschwartz7456
    @paxtonschwartz7456 6 лет назад

Man I feel this so deeply. It's so hard (especially when you're just starting out) to really get going. I'm not doing youtube to make money but I want to create content that people enjoy and sometimes I feel like we as people expect more from ourselves than anyone else will. We want more than possible from ourselves because as creators we feel like the people that we create for deserve the best we can give them. And overtime these expectations can grow and grow to be so unrealistic there's no way we could achieve them. Then this makes it harder if not impossible to grow as a channel because my expectations of myself keep me from posting, which in turn keeps me from gaining any type of new following. So while I don't think it's right to tell anyone to lower their expectations of themselves, I think that we should all keep at least realistic expectations of ourselves. Ones of high standard and value, but ones that are also achievable, even with a good amount of hard work. That's my take on it anyways lol what do you guys think.

Hi! I'm usually not commenting but just watching the videos, and this is certainly something that I'm in a rut in. For me, I find that the thing that actually crushes my creativity is time. Rather, the lack therof. I want to be a filmmaker, and in all realities I just really want to be a great storyteller, and when I see how little time I have between a day job and all of my ambitions - I feel trapped because I can't spend tons of time making the great videos I'd like to, and instead settle for some that are just ok and lack that polish I wish I could spend the time adding. I make a video a week, and I feel like I only have time for the one video. There's no time to learn after effects, or the various other things I want to learn like coding and making music so that I can branch out and make great stories with music and video games outside of making films.
I guess the question in my head becomes, will I ever have enough time to do all of what I want to do, create, and accomplish in life? How am I going to make this work? I sometimes think that I should just quit and go live a normal life, because all of this creativity really does cut into things like socializing, finding a life partner, seeing the world and being with family.
You seem pretty busy in life as well. How do you handle all of that? Thanks for your video and answers.

it's really really entertaining and a lot of fun making videos, whatever topic that is (music videos, vloggin, comedy, etc). BUT, sometimes gets really frustrating that you spend, as much, one entire week shooting, editing and uploading the ending result... and there's NO PEOPLE WATCHING YOUR STUFF, and commenting saying "wow, cool stuff, dude!". That's the reason I took a couple of weeks break for my videos (I do instrumental songs, and my videos aren't "cinematic" or that high quality, but I think that I'm doing a preeety DECENT JOB), because lately I feel really dissapointed of nobody watching my stuff. Maybe in a not-so-far future there will be an "audience".. hehe
Thank you so much for your motivation, Matti. You're GREAT!

I recently moved back to my hometown and all my friends I used to hang out with doesn't live here anymore, and it's hard to make new ones. Some days I feel like I just should stop doing videos, but I keep pushing myself, uploading videos every other day, even if they aren't that good. I do it because I'm still learning, and learning by doing is the best way in my opinion!

feel this all the time, trying to make great content but hey, some gets in our way and all of a sudden its posting time already, and end up giving the wrong perspective to the viewer, but as you said.. it just one of thousand hundred million video out here in youtube, sometimes it really took out some of the pressure..

I think vlogging has helped me so much, i used to be so self conscious and hated talking to the camera, Now im like "I gotta get this content" and do not even think about my own ego. haha. I hate struggling with creativity. I hate watching my vlogs because i compare myself way too much to others. But at the end of the day i enjoy cameras, all the gear and animals. so no point in having film gear and not using it.

Your Canadian pronunciation of PROject and PROcess really drew attention to how much you said those words. Not a problem of course, because that's what the topic was, but still couldn't help but notice it more and more as the video went on.
