Awesome! I have a class document with 37000 + words and a zillion headings! I use the navigation pane and thought "there must be some easier way than clicking each of my main headings when I really want to close them all". Works there also!! Thank you.
Hi Rick, apologies for the delay in my reply, I had been hoping to find a fix but my search hasn't turned up any useful results. Unfortunately, the collapsable heading functionality is not included in the Mac version(I am also a Mac user). It seems that this is somewhat par for the course with MS apps on Mac. I will keep an eye out and will be sure to post a video if this situation changes.
Many thanks - very helpful video - allows me to now import Word docts directly into Mind Manager and also Mind View mind maps. Can you do video on how to within Windows Excel, where the cells will automatically bring up a list of suggestions without having to press "Alt Down Arrow". Mac Excel does this automatically.
I believe this was the 2016 version (If I'm not mistaken, it's been a while). However, the options should all still be in the same place. Have you tried using a larger monitor maybe?
This is very clear and simple! I'm sure it'll come in handy for the projects I have in mind. A question, though. Is this option something that can be found in older MS Word versions? Say, 2007 for example? Edit: Or is this feature something that can be found in other writing programs? Do you know? Thanks for the tips, appreciated them!
Thanks for the comment & question. I must admit I am not sure about older versions, since I haven't used them in many years. Maybe someone reading this comment could jump in and answer if they have any insights. As regards other word processors. I believe open source versions such as open office do have this functionality as long as the correct heading styles are used (just as with MS word). With google docs, it is not possible to collapse all headings. However, you do have access to the headings only in the side pane. I hope that helps!
Good tip; but what I'm really after is a way to open my document and see that the headings are collapsed, not have to do it myself, again. Is this sort of thing possible?
Hi @Mike, @Intergrated Skills - found this in the comments of another youtube vid, which worked for me: On the Home tab, open paragraph, see the little checkbox? It reads "Collapsed by default". If you check that, those headings should stay collapsed. In File, Options, Advanced, there is a checkbox under 'Show Document Content', which reads "Expand all headings when opening a document". Maybe yours is checked? Hopefully this helps you out. this from ruclips.net/video/aft_4mcaxHU/видео.html
Hi, im finding it hard adding Headers after i've applied the style. Do i need to type everything up normally before applying the styles? Also finding it hard to apply collapsible Heading when i'm making them numbered lists under them. Any suggestions?
You can always change a style from "heading" to "normal". Sometimes Word can be a little temperamental however, just applying the "heading" style should make them collapsable.
Thank you, this is much clearer than other sites I have looked at.
Thank you David, I'm glad you found the video helpful!
Very clear instructions with good visual reference. Thank you!

What version of ms are you using in this video ? I'm using ms 2019 and collapse arrow icons look so tiny that I can barely notice.

When I make it a heading, it doesn't give me that collapse option. Why? It doesn't have that arrow.
How do you create a heading without the triangle? Asking since it seems as the expandable triangle comes as default when I create a heading.
I love this. Thank you.
Glad the video was of help!

As far as I am aware it is something that would have to be done each time.

Strange enough, the little arrow or triangle on the left does not appear.
Is there a way of making headings static at the top of each page?
You could try making a new header for each page - I will soon make a video on how to do this
4:05 is what you're looking for. Thank me later. 😉
haha, Nice one Jonas - This does indeed cut right to the chase!

Such a ridiculous feature to not have for the mac version. Microsoft is useless!
