    Very informative and easy to follow! How did you refresh your screen? I tried right clicking but in my SharePoint Online environment it doesn't work. Advice?

    Does the same functionality work with Managed Metadata columns?

    Thank you for the video. I am managing a site for project managers. We create a folder on the first page and then within that folder there are multiple folders with documents. They like to filter by the column I have created for PM Assigned on the main page to find their work easily. However, when they do this it works great on the first page that is just the folder. When they click into the folder, their documents are not there because the column PM assigned is blank as we don't fill that into the multiple documents behind that main folder. Is there a way to make those documents visible or to carry over the PM assigned to auto populate to anything added once they are added on the folder page?

      You are welcome. This is a known limitation of folders - they do not propagate metadata. You should look into Document Sets: sharepointmaven.com/academy/advanced-sharepoint-document-management/. Another workaround would be to hide folders altogether: sharepointmaven.com/how-to-hide-folders-from-a-document-library/

    Hi SharePoint Maven, Great video. Is there a way to remove add column option for certain users?

      No, unless you switch to Contribute Permission level

    Great video - thank you!! Is there a way to sort the filter results where its alphabetical? For example, in your demo, Facebook and Google, Google was before Facebook. The column itself is alphabetical order but the filtering pane is not. How can you show the filter column attributes alphabetically? We have so many lists with filters and the order of the options is not alphabetical. :( Help!

    • @SharePointMaven
      @SharePointMaven  Год назад +1

      Thanks. No way to reorg those if I am not mistaken. I believe they are ordered by the # of items tagged against a given filter.

    thank you for the tutorial! i created a custom list with many metadata columns. i would like to edit a view so not all columns are visible (to make it easier to look at the screen without scrolling) but I would like to enable filtering options on the hidden columns. it looks like pinned columns disappear when i remove them from the view. it is online modern sharepoint. i don't see a possibility to activate metadata navigation or adding a filter webpart. what other options available?

    • @SharePointMaven
      @SharePointMaven  3 года назад

      There are no other options available. You have to display columns to filter them

      @@yuliyamakarova1505 You can add the library to the modern page. That still works

    Great function. But how can I pin filters in a calendar view. I can filter by view, but can't find any way for the user to filter the calendar view.

    What if I don't have the setting to move to the filters pane? It does not show up in the contextual menu...

    • @nandospc
      @nandospc 11 месяцев назад

      Ah no ok, i understand now. It shows up only if the column has rows with only one row data. If you have more rows data in a single row, it doesn't let you add that column in the filters pane. Thanks anyway :)

      @@SharePointMaven Thanks for the response. I actually figured it out shortly after I posted this message. Edit the calendar view. Check to turn on any columns that you want to filter on. Save the view. In a normal list view, the selected columns would show up as a column on the list. On a calendar view though you can only select one column to show up on the calendar item. The rest of them do not show up, but are available as filterable items in the filter pane.

    Hi Mr Greg, I have used this meta data as well and have created views out of it. However when new documents are added to the library and I had to update the choice colums with new choice variants the filter views I have created cannot be updated. I have to delete them and create new because the new filter value cannot be added in the settings. Do you have a suggestion how to handle this?

    • @SharePointMaven
      @SharePointMaven  3 года назад

      You should be able to update views - no need to delete them - strange behavior

      @@SharePointMaven Thank you for your tip and also for the helpful videos. The problem I have is that I have for example filtered out a certain type of format such as PDF, if I want to include all documents with PDF-format and update the filter I don't find a possiblity except of starting the filter new as the filtered out meta data is not shown in the actual filter.
