  • John received an interesting email about someone needing to move aquariums and decided that him and The Professor should spend an hour talking about it.

Loved this weeks podcast. An idea for an upcoming podcast could be to talk about power outages. From either winter or storm weather and how to be prepared.

Easiest way to clean hard water stains:
    Soak paper towels in vinegar
Lay soaked paper towels on hard water stains
    Wait 20 min
    Wipe clean
    Changed my life!

Borrow (or even buy, if you have to) the large suction cups with handles you can clamp onto the tank. Much better for gripping than trying to hold the tank by the edge.

you guys should do an episode or maybe just jason do a nerdy science video about detoxification in aquariums, a lot of products say they detoxify different things in your aquarium but what is that detox process, do these products really work and if they do/dont then how are they working and whats the best use of these products like are ammonia nitrite and nitrate detoxifiers all that good and whats going on in your tank when you add them and how does dechlorinators remove the chemicals we need them to remove and such...i should note i do note a bunch of these answers (not all tho) but its a cool fun nerdy science topic that im sure a lot of people dont know and theres a lot a varying info so having two ppl discuss pros cons and science behind it is always a plus

This episode was well timed! I've got a new 180 tank arriving this week hopefully and I'm hoping the delivery driver and I will be strong enough to lift it in, I've moved this size tank before with one other person (which had 2 panes of glass in the bottom👀) the new tank is a single pane in the bottom, ill make sure to make a plan and have things to rest the tank on if needed!
    Thanks
    Aaron

I actually just had to move my 125 to the garage this past weekend. The woman bought me a new 75, and she wanted the 125 moved from the living room. Started at 4:30 P.M. Saturday, got done at 5:00A.M. Sunday. 😴😴 Definitely make sure you take the time to do it.

I find that if you take paper towels and let them in vinegar and stick them to the empty aquarium it makes less razor blade work

I purchased a large 110 gallon tank last year. The gentleman I bought it lived up stairs, 16 outdoor Steel steps with an air conditioner at about 6 steps in to make me hang, briefly, over the railing. We did everything that you both suggested including air stones for the 31 fish he sold with the tank. Our choice was go slow don’t rush there’s too much that can go wrong so, literally, one step at a time. No I wouldn’t do that again and he had 2 tanks for sale lol 😂 stay happy and healthy my friends!! 😊❤

Spent over 30 years in the moving business and still fish tanks are a scary carry. But if you put a 125 on a few moving pads but need to be thick you can move it with pretty easy. Thanks for the video.

Spare tank? What's that? All mine have fish in them

  • @TripleFork
    @TripleFork 4 месяца назад

To the person that send in the topic. I would have a spare tank on hand at home. Cleaning tanks can take up a long time. Especially 3 of them at teh same time. If you come home and leave your fish in the tubs till your finnished cleaning. 😵‍💫. If you have a spare tank. You put the fish in 2 of the dirty tanks plus the extra tank. You can now clean 1 tank. Install it, move the fish. Take in the second tank and so on. If you don't have a spare tank by a cheap one second hand for the weekend. Resell it if all tanks are ready.

Great episode and perfect timing as I have a major algae issue in my tank. It's been up for about 15 years, so I guess it's time to give my tank a thorough clean with new substrate etc. The discussion about taking fish from dirty water and just putting them in clean water but make sure temp is the same and use a dechlorinator seems scary to me. PH in my tank is 7-7.5. I have hard tap water with a 8+ PH. Would love to hear a discussion on a future podcast about using different water types - such as tap, RO, or water that runs through a softener. What's the best thing to do if your water is too hard / too high of a PH? I know there are minerals and chemicals you can add to adjust hardness, lower Ph etc, but I prefer not to use those if possible. I currently use mostly RO, but am constantly trying to get the right mix of tap and RO...seems like there should be an easier way!

Back in the day, I moved a 180 gallon tank with monster fish (snakehead, pacus, gar, clown knife). I bought brand new garbage cans and put them in there to move them. Duct taped the tops on. It was winter and they were moved in the back of a pickup truck. Everyone made it !!
