- Landscape Series #1 Tilt and Swipe Fluid Art Painting Technique. The first in a few landscape paintings, this little 10 x 10 uses leftover paint, which probably was a bit too old (like over a year!). So not surprisingly it did split, but on this occasion I actually think it made the painting!! Ok, before you think I am going mad, this is a landscape the cracks all went in the same direction and I used them to my advantage. If you follow me you will know that I am against the word 'embellishments' I prefer 'enhancements'… but something that isn't there is arguably the former. The trees I have added have relevance, and thats my point - they make it look more like a landscape.
My Recipe on this occasion was:
POURING MEDIUM:
75% Owatrol and 35% GAC 800
COLOURS:
1 part Golden Fluid paints mixed with 5 parts pouring medium
LACING/CELL ACTIVATORS:
Each one of the 3 recipes below will give you varying results
Amsterdam Oxide Black
Pouring Medium (as above)
1 tbsp Acrylic Polymer Gloss Varnish
Based on 20 grams of paint to 40 grams of Pouring Medium
Amsterdam Oxide Black
Pouring Medium (as above)
1 tbsp Acrylic Polymer Gloss Varnish
1 tbsp of Propylene Glycol (Please note this is banned in some countries, it's used in soap making and oil burners in the UK, I use it in very small quantities and I do not wash my hands with the stuff). You might try an alternative such as Linseed Oil or Dish Soap.
Based on 20 grams of paint to 40 grams of Pouring Medium
Amsterdam Oxide Black
Aussie Floetrol plus water to required consistency

😆 someone else just said that Jan... so I’m keepin it! X
Fabulous ! it brings back days when I painted landscapes with oils on canvas. Between this and your ocean views I shall have to take a detour from my norm and explore your wonderful style. You have a true talent and style..... just wonderful to look at and get lost in.
Thank you so much richard! I have done a few more seascapes recently, which will be released over the next few weeks. But I’m itching to get back to doing more landscapes too!
@@JulieVatcherArtist l look forward to tracking your new work. You are taking paint pouring to a new level. Keep the talent flowing. RB
We all have messy days, mine are most days 😀 I love the tree on the side of the canvas. Your work is so lovely, always a joy you watch you in action 😘
Thank you Chris. I think I enjoy this technique the most. It’s definitely relaxing. I get a bit anxious with flip cups!
beautiful. everything you paint makes me want to live in it🤗❤️christy
Thank you Christy, that’s a really lovely thing to say.... made me smile, 🤗
Oh what a happy morning watching you paint this gorgeous piece of art. I loved the end result posted in Instagram and relished every moment watching you and listening to your commentary.
I love the effect of the cracks and separation of colours. Happy Accidents.
Thanks Diana!!! I like the cracks too! The one coming up next Sunday is better... and had one beautiful split through the middle!! ☺️🤪
@@JulieVatcherArtist i will be watching that one for sure 😁
Woow Amazing artwork new friend 😍
Thank you (new friend back!)
Beautiful!!! How come I missed your last videos even if I subcribed to your channel ?!! 🙁 Bizarre, happens just with your channel... Loooove your landscapes 😍
Have you hit the bell? No idea why that happens! Normally one is released every Sunday. Glad you like the landscapes... me too, although both these sold within days of doing them, so I need to do more!
@@JulieVatcherArtist Lucky you !! I hardly sell a few of my artworks 😕. I keep piling them up 🤣 ! And yes I hit the bell for all videos !?!
@@joyceblackburn6431 I’ve just googled this issue... might be worth you doing the same. There seems to be a few different reasons, but it depends how you receive the notifications and on what device! I’m no techie, if i got lots of comments about this I would look into it further, but so far it’s only you. Next time I upload a video I will double check that everything is checked that should be. 🤔 💜
@@JulieVatcherArtist Weirdly, it does that just with your channel 🧐 ?!
So beautiful, I have been watching a lot of your videos and they are beautiful! Why do you use house paint for a base paint? You never did put the recipe in your drop down either.
Hi joey, this was a while ago now… I know that at the time I used a mix of 3 parts floetrol, 2 parts GAC and 1 part golden fluid paints… that was a ratio of 5>1. I no longer use that recipe as it was way too expensive. I simple use 2 parts PVA to 1 part paint, then water. I remember in this painting I was using up old paint that had been lying around for ages. I use house paint as a base for a couple of reasons…. It’s cheaper, especially if I have a large canvas to flood and if I am doing something like a landscape of a seascape I like the reaction it gives when I over tilt my colour…. Sometimes Pearl cells pop up, depending on my mix and consistency. I hope that all helps. In later videos all of my recipes are always listed. 💜
Thank you for sharing I really enjoyed watching to the end:) If you resin this.. the shimmer is going to pop up!
Thankyou for watching all the way to the end, it’s very much appreciated. ! I don’t like to resin canvases. I only use it for coasters. I’m not a fan of high sheen finishes.. it’s just a personal thing. I always admire it on others work... like the blooms as it brings out the colours. I worry about the longevity of resin on canvas 🤔. With this PM the gac800 really shines and gives a lovely finish. I will just give this a light spray with a satin varnish. I was thinking of getting some greeting cards done of this one and next weeks, if people will want them?.. I need to be able to scan them. X
@@JulieVatcherArtist yes, it's personal preference but I was changed my mind after trying resin on my work. I liked Matt finish before. BTW greeting cards are great idea. if you make a set it would be nicer👍👍👍
Beautiful work!
Looks fabulous,it’s to wet to paint here in Sydney so doing drawing ,I have lost 2 subscribers don’t no why may get some more later.
Aww thank you Andrew. Unfortunately we all loose followers from time to time... it’s the name of the game! If you enjoy it, stick with it!
Hi! Sooo beautiful, what kind of pen did you use for the tree and black area
Thank you 😊 these are the pens

Hello RUclips world. I love it!
😆 ok, I’ll keep it!!
So nice you are from UK
Thank you 😊
Beautiful ❤
Please can I ask do you mix anything with your house paint? Thank you 😊
Hello Maddy. I mix my house paints in exactly the same way as my other paints. 😊
@@JulieVatcherArtist thank you 😊
How did you get that crackle effect in your swipe? Did you add Floetrol to your paints? It's really lovely what you did.
Hello Lila, this was a while ago now, so I am trying to remember! I know that I used paint that had been mixed a while, so that I knew I would get some nice splitting following the lines of the paint. At the time of doing this my pouring medium was owatrol (European version of floetrol) and GAC 800. I didn’t use silicone, but I did swipe with Amsterdam Oxide Black (just in places). I hope that answers your question….. but I just use PVA these days!
Nice work Julie I must try this technique 👍🏻 what is it you’re using to swipe, kitchen towel? I love that you use up the leftover paint 🎨
Thanks! Just plain old kitchen roll. I don’t like throwing paint away, even if it is 2 years old!!!!!
@@JulieVatcherArtist love it
I think this is so beautiful! I love the negative space! I have a seascape pour that I want to add a headland and some rocks to. What is this magical brush pen you speak of? I'm confused. I have some brush pens you fill with water for my watercolour pencils. Is that what you're using? xx
Hi Karen, I have had the pen for a few years... I think it’s all the way from China via Amazon. I will try and dig the link out.

What is your 3.2.1
3 parts floetrol, 2 parts GAC800 and 1 part paint (golden fluid as it’s highly pigmented, so the ratio is 5>1)
