This is why I like your reviews! The fact that you actually compare models in the same group (in this case, 7940HS) is useful for consumers and means your videos don't turn into glorified ad spots...unlike...cough...*ETA PRIME* cough. Also it's a shame you don't have Amazon Japan affiliate links (where I am) since I'd love to support the channel through my purchases from time to time.
Thank you. I just want to cover things I think are important but also point out any issues I have encounter. I've also heard some units have had reboot issues due to older bios version and bad RAM. I guess it's down to luck. Thanks for your support and no ad spots here :)

Thanks for the review Chris! Finally a stable Mini PC from Minisforum with very good performance. I'm thinking to get this one as soon as I catch a good deal
I have one Mini PC from them and I regret buying it. It was crashing all the time and after an endless conversation via Email I could send it back. Waiting now for 3 weeks... They told me to wait patiently... Never buy something from a company where the support is in China!
I purchased the 64GB - 1TB version of this UM790PRO in August 2023 and love it thus far, snappy when opening about any applications, fast on ethernet to move files, video playback is smooth, even 4K from RUclips. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a smaller form factor device. I have a gaming PC for those purposes, this is more of a secondary or workday device, so I cannot comment on the FPS for gaming.

Thank you for this review. It would be nice if you could consider running some of the gaming benchmarks on a Arch Linux or rolling distribution under Steam with Vulkan instead of DirectX, you will probably notice an improvement in gaming FPS for many titles, and it would be a nice comparison with Windows 11.
4 days with it now I love it, thinking to switch it over as my main work pc for everything expect video editing and gaming (Got a RTX 4090 PC for that) The fan & cooling performance and everything is great. I hope a bios update can fix the HDMI 2.1 cutting in and out when running high refresh rates.
This was a super helpful review thank you for showing real time clock specs. So many people reviewing these don't reveal that and it's majorly helpful.
Seems like a great mini PC to own but I won't be surprised if companies release mini PCs with more powerful Ryzen 9 7945HX3D in the next few months. Yes, it still has the same 780M iGPU but they could push more frames per second provided with more improved cooling system & perhaps Oculink port for faster eGPU support.
Yes I'm waiting for an Oculink Mini PC and with this chipset it would be crazy good. Goodbye tower PC as my dream set up is Mini PC + oculink external GPU.
The next variant of this unit (expected release by the end of the year), the UM790 XTX, will include an OcuLink port! I am hoping this feature becomes standard at least on the higher-end mini PCs. Hopefully on the Intel side of things Thunderbolt 5 will eliminate the bottlenecks associated with extGPU connections today. That said, iGPUs are getting better and better and should continue to improve such that in 2-3 years they may well fulfill most use-cases that require dGPUs today (especially as Intel switches to their new, tiled iGPU architecture).
The Beelink GTR7 throttling issues seems to have been fixed with a recent BIOS update. They're also releasing an updated bottom cover with better ventilation and fan. That said, I'd still get this one anyway. Smaller size, better cooling and cheaper price.
Good move as in the end while Beelink were good to fix this and offer the new bottom cover it really should have been there to start with. This has the better power plug standard easy to get, better cooling as my RAM was hitting 95 degrees C (Before the new bottom). Shame I got this review unit so late for some reason Minisforum didn't want my video in the first batch of them scared I would say something against it I guess, I did find the glitchy HDMI at 4k120. But enjoy the mini pc it's on of the best yet.
Beelink base cover is already released it's out and I have one. I actually installed one I had laser cut already and the ram doesn't go over 56c and the SSD no higher than 60c and the CPU 83c and GPU 73c is my highest. I haven't seen throttling I'm on v13 no reboots and I've done benchmarks yesterday my results on 7840hs benched higher than most reviewers gtr7 😯😁 95c isn't something the memory does and I suspect the high room temperatures had a big part in that outcome. Random reboot solutions are wip on the official forum. But heating, rebooting, throttling aren't anything I've seen.
My room temps are 24-25 degrees C with AC on it's not like i'm testing it outside in the sun 😁 I haven't tried the new bios as I go sick of the 2nd or 3rd still having random reboots and Beelink wouldn't replace the unit for me. Glad you're is working well. Great machine now it's all fixed up!
@@Techtablets I had heard it could have even been the ram, I have a theory it could have been a bad batch of memory involved who knows. I'm having a lot of fun with Ratchet & Clank never thought I'd run it on high and mixed very high settings with no upscale. I've been living the Intel iGPU life too long. I've got no plans to update the bios. Theres a video that got released yesturday on youtube all in Chinese but its showing what difference the baseplate can make, 14*c less for memory and ssd is a huge benefit.
Great that they did this. Sad it should have been like that from the get go and I wouldn't have had these issues. At least they were quick to correct the thermals and issue the new bottom plates.
i bought a barebone UM790 from Amazon....as Chris said, no thermal issues, not too noisy(even on performance mode) but unplugging and plugging cable from the peripherals ends up with a restart in order to work as intended. Minisforum provides Windows and drivers from the site but in my experience made the mini PC sluggish and clunky(minis forum drivers apply only for Windows 11 for some unknown reason)
Maybe try the Minis form Win 11 image ? I've got no sluggish issues. Also try the bios update for some reason it's offline but should be up again soon.
Was a bios update, but they pulled down, probably because everyone was complaining about ( capping the CPU power)....i had a um 790 pro with first bios 1.03 and i can tell that was far better than actual 1.05 ....they capped CPU performance big time...anyway i don't like to depend on minis forum for software and drivers updates...i returned all of them already
Did you ever solve the issue with the HDMI ports? I bought a lowend Beelink Ser5 5560U, which had the same issue on HDMI with 4K60hz. I tried different cables, I tried cabling directly to the tv, without going through the receiver and it kept blacking out for a few seconds. I reached out to Beelink support who gave me the most ridiculous pieces of advice. "Clean the ram", "Ensure the fan works", "Take a picture of the bios" etc. I really would like to know if it is my unit or if it just a China problem - or if it can be solved software-style (probably not). The pc will go back as the return window is still open.
I bought the UM790 Pro last week but had to return it yesterday because the Wifi stopped connecting after about 2 days of use. I contacted MinisForum and they were quick to respond, however, they could provide me with assistance to get the WiFi working again (they tried but it proved futile). I believe the plug in board failed and needed to be replaced. They didn't offer to replace the board or the unit itself so I had no choice but to return it. I would have loved to keep it because it was fast and powerful. I bought it to run Photoshop Elements 2024. Now I am skeptical of purchasing another unit. I will wait to see future reviews, etc.
This is the 2.nd review trhat make me buy a Mini Pc. The first I buy de T-Bao Mn4800 and now, when I expected for review of UM790 Pro I buy it and it's amazing. Out of this world. The best review! Thanks!
Great review, but missing comparison. Please make a chart and compare minipcs with the latest models, the top products to make it easier to understand how well a minipc is performing - thanks!
Hi, how do you think Flight Simulator 2020 can run with this UM790 PC? At what resolution? I thank you in advance for what you can help me choose. Thank you
I have the UM790 Pro and I run MXLinux 23.1 with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Matter of fact, I just moved my M.2 2TB drive, "OS and all" into the UM790 Pro and it booted up with no issues whatsoever, It recognised all the Hardware and reconfigured itself for the new hardware. Granted, I was running a first gen Ryzen 5 with a radeon video card in my old PC.
@@IphoneSamsung-wv8or No, I pulled the m.2 HD with MXLinux installed on it out of my Desktop and installed it in my UM790 Pro and went into the UM790 Pro's bios and changed it to boot from it. and it booted with no errors or issues. as if I installed it from scratch.
@@IphoneSamsung-wv8or I'm sorry, I don't quite understand? The UM790 Pro is a standalone computer. essentially a PC in tiny form. When you say "connect" to a laptop, do you mean network the two computers together? or do you mean something else?
Here is my experience with this. Bought a barebones and installed 64gb Ripjaws 5600Mhz, WD Black 1TB PCI-e 4.0 to fill it in. The Windows 11 download was pretty straightforward with the ISO provided on thier homepage. I use my PC for light work, browsing and watching a lot of video on it. All peripherals are connected via Bluetooth, but never in a million years came to a situation that USB SD Card readers devices are not recognised! This problem is also all over Redidt too. It's the 3rd day after writing to them and they've not responded yet. No resolution so far. If anyone has had a similar problem please mention a fix to this! So much for thier support. So future buyers beware about this problem.
Thanks for the video Chris. I was wondering if both NVME drives are bootable and if you can select which NVME drive to boot from in the BIOS? I always appreciate you testing Linux since that's the only OS I use 😃
I'm on the fence between the the UM790 Pro and the GTR 7 / 7 Pro. My main issue is that GTR 7 models aren't available on Amazon and GTR 7 Pro is hard to get from bee link (Sold out)
Hi, great review, I was just debating between the UM790 Pro and the GTR 7 Pro, after countless problems I saw with the GTR 7 Pro that crashes non-stop, I decided to go with the UM790 Pro, a simple question, if I want to upgrade the fan can I do it this?
HI, my GTR 7 Pro has been a huge pain in the arse always randomly rebooting even after countless bios updates. I gave up and just sold it recently so this is the unit to get I think. No issues with mine but some have had issues. Luck of the draw I guess. As for fan upgrades not possible for this little unit, but it's also not required.
I have one. Keep it on bios 1.03 (default from factory) thats a stable one. Minisforum had version 1.04 and 1.05 out but the took ik back because of randomly crashes. Bios 1.06 is coming in the a few weeks.
With all comparative tests done on mini-PCs, the Minisforum UM790 is the best for personal gaming using an integrated GPU on a mini-PC. It's less hot 🔥 than the it's previous model (UM690) too. I'd still pick the Beelink GTR7 due to the unique fingerprint reader and 2nd best gaming performance. Either one you cannot go wrong.
Beelink has a magnetic power supply, and I'm worried about whether it will be possible to buy a replacement if it breaks. Minisforum uses a classic connector.
@@Hogan4079 Using UM790Pro(1.04 BIOS) for two weeks. No restarts, no problems with RAM on full speed 5600MHz . Writing from it now. I'm using Linux Mint 21.2 with 6.2 kernel. 2x16GB RAM Kingston Fury CL40, SOLIDIGM P44 Pro 1TB SSD and removed WI-Fi card. I was afraid and expected certain problems, but nothing yet. My first choice was Asus PN53 but it is expensive and was out of stock for long time so I order this miniPC at the beginning of July.
So, just to be sure, and based on the picture that the manufacturer has on Amazon, does this have 2 fans? 1 with the heat pipes, and another one at the bottom?
Great video mate! Have been following your videos for quite some time. What happens when you switch the Buffer to 6G and performance mode? Asking because I am planning to get one of these for work and having used R9 CPUs before I have confidence in their performance and stability for my use case. I am planning to build ML models for orbit dynamics sims.
@@Techtablets Interesting, thanks for answering. Just a follow-up, is there a noticeable increase in Single Core performance when the buffer gets increased or is it only for the graphics performance?
This is the best size for me as I connect them on my huge living room 4K LG TV for gaming. What would be the best of the best and 24/24 started without fan (or very quiet) ? I don't mind of the prices. Thanks.
I'm almost buying this one after having a gaming PC for many years. Currently I play on PS5 and I also used GeForce Now without an issue even on my i7-8700K. My only concern is if this would be good to use also as a Plex local server. I don't want to stream outside my LAN, only to my Chromecast with Google TV. Do you think that will work fine?
Hello. Great review. I did read on a couple of web sites that there has been a problem with over-heating. However, your review states the opposite? Thank you
Comparing the UM790Pro to the UM780 XTX we get the 7940HS vs 7840HS, no occulink vs occulink, 1x 2,5Gbps NIC vs 2. The vendor is offering the UM790 Pro as a replacement for my UM780 XTX which has stability issues. Wondering if it is worth the loss of oculink (I did get an eGpu) and the second NIC vs 100MHz speed bump...
Preface by saying, outstanding review, i.e., I am considering a purchase of this mini pc . . . Question though - were you able to resolve/fix the HDMI 2.1 issue at 4k120hz? In effect, I scrolled though most of the comments and I only saw one comment from you where you alluded to a BIOS upgrade seeming to fix the issue? Fast forward today, HAS THE ISSUE BEEN RESOLVED? Again, thank you for the excellent review!
@@Techtablets Thank you for the quick response! Follow-up - was it the BIOS upgrade (1.09 I think was the version?) that resolved the problem? Again, outstanding review, but more important, you seem to be one of the few pc reviewers that get back to your viewers, i.e., that's impressive!

Finally :) Thank you Chris, great review and I am glad I ordered this one as well, just barebone. Just that deliver time... How long did you wait for your unit? Have you actually tried connect at least 3 monitors?
Well I was meant to get it 7 weeks ago liek all the others but lately Minisforum seems to hold back and delay my units since I have no issues mentioning issues unlike some. They finally got onto it and it took from when they said it was being sent about 2 weeks. I tried 3 screens yes but one is only 1080p max. I sadly don't have 4 x 4k monitors for it. Since 4k120 was glitchy for me via HDMI I have my doubts it will actually do 4k60 x 4.
Sure is there are some models with 7200Mhz ram and that is when it matches the GTX 1650. Impressive stuff. If the next Intel iGPU is 3050 level I would ditch ym desktop for a mini pc as my dedicated video machine. This UM790 Pro can do it, I edited this video on it infact. But choked under a camera comparsion test edit.
It's odd that you were running the same games at 1080p on the last gen chipsets but are now having to go back to 720p for this machine with the more powerful igpu 🤔
I was running 1080p in GTA V same settings, but games like Cyberpunk it's better 720p more FPS so that's why I run with it as it is 60fps or over Vs 30-40 fps at 1080p which nobody wants to game with. I guess now I should have tested 1080p at least to show the difference.
I had this PC and returned. It would bluescreen multiple times a day. I saw some other commmenters on amazon with the same issue.... I'm rocking a gaming laptop instead, which i'm glad i purchased. However, i would probably get one of the ryzen z1 extreme handhelds over these mini PCs.... I no longer see the value in these mini-pcs.
Nice PC, but wish it had a full service USB-C port on the back so you could have just one USB cable from the PC to your monitor that supports powering devices.
Am I the only one who would prefer one of the USB4 ports to be on the back? Connecting a USB-C monitor, eGPU or whatever to the front just seems awkward....
Hello and greetings from Germany, great video, have now also bought a UM790 and am a little disappointed, unfortunately I cannot set a resolution of 5120x1440, is that with you too?
I googled and binged but still can't wrap my head around it. Do these perform as well as their laptop counterparts? Do they have similar longevity? The performance:price ratio is absurd. Even after seeing several positive reviews, it still seems too good to be true.
They perform the same as they are laptop chipsets. Some people have had random reboots and powering off with some units due to bad RAM. But they are normally fine and longevity no issue. I even use the UM780 XTX has my main desktop PC now and no issues performance is great.
I have just had this model suggested to me. I am first and foremost an audio buff, and do NO gaming. How does this model stack up for high quality audio replay? I use multi K hi fi replay system
Can you test at a higher tdp for a future video im curious to see the results … Also what would be the best way to power this up remotely via a wireless keyboard etc …. Also if you attach vesa mount does it block the fan ventilation on the bottom ?
Hi, I did test higher TDP today and I see no difference really at all. Still hits 49W max running Cinebench even when set to 54W. The fan with the VESA mount isn't blocked half is still open, doubt it will make too much of a difference a few degrees more.
Okay I updated the bios to 1.04 and I could up to TDP to even 70W the cooling was fine. No real increase in performance barely really not worth it. You can overclock the 780M clocks but the gain is 3-5% really faster RAM is what it needs. If only the Kingston 6400Mhz DDR5 kit would work...
Without knowing exactly what it is it's hard to say but it handles 4k video editing well and is very powerful as long as you don't need raw GPU power which is all this lacks.
how and what keys do you use to access the Graphical Bios, I have tried 'Del' and 'Esc' and 'F7' but none of them seem to work, the computer just stops loading and I have to reset it to get the desktop back again, any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Matt

I would like to buy an extra ssd of 2 tb, but which one would be the best option (the brand I mean, kingston samsung, etc...) thanks a lot in advance.
@@Techtablets dear sir. Thanks a lot. Just to tell you that I already purchased this wonderful device. I think the next month I will go for your suggestion for ssd. You and your wonderful videos have helped me a lot! Here in Germany there was a coupon of 50 euros so at the end it was 719 euros for the UM790 Pro, and I think that is so nice for the things that this pc offers!!! Since the first time I saw this mini pcs I wanted to buy one, but I was not sure which one can be the best. Thanks to you I could make a decision. I have a last question, and sorry if this is a silly question, but as a grown man that most of the time is working, I have always used a pc for my engineering CAD stuff and programming. For the games I have my ps4, but I have always had the doubt about these wonderful games that I see on the reviews. I heard and saw this xbox app on windows, and heard about this "steam" which one do you use to demonstrate the games on this laptop. Sorry once again for this basic and silly question, but it would be nice once in my life to play something as well on a pc... Thank you so much in advance.
Hi, I was considering picking one of these up or some other variant of it but planned to upgrade to a larger power supply and some custom cooling methods but I had 2 questions for you guys. 1) is there any way to remove the power limitation for the 7940HS in the bios? 2) What would be the best method of using an external GPU? or the least bottlenecked way.
Hi there is not way to remove it in the bios only set 54w. However there is universal x86 tuning utility which allows you to set higher tdp on each boot. As for eGPU I've done some testing at even set a world record for external GPUs with 3DMark timespy and my text 4090. The best is using Oculink 63gbps pcie 4.0 to eGPU. Thunderbolt gets 40 Gbps but it's actually less with the USB 4/TB overhead taking up some speed. However thunderbolt is the cleanest set up without having to the m.2 connection and loosing one m.2 slot.
I got the 64GB/1TB version. Was very impressed with it until it started rebooting EVERY day multiple times. I've done multiple fresh installs and driver updates but the PC appears to have some kind of problem. I am still waiting for a resolution for Minisforum. I hope they can sort it as it's my first experience with this company.
Not good this was very common when the first 7X40 series mini PC came out. It was most of the time RAM temps getting too high. In some of my other videos I mentioned the random reboots under heavy loads. This unit of mine didn't have such issues bios version 1.01 could be a golden unit they sent reviewers. I hope not.
. @Techtablets Ah, thanks for replying. So it's not just me. They have been on to me and said something about a batch from around August which is when I took delivery of mine is having reboot issues. They asked if I would mind another model, so I said yes as long as it's got the same ports and similar performance, so just waiting for a reply now. They didn't offer a replacement, so maybe they are not going to be offering anymore of this model

Much better review than that bias ETA Prime. Turned off from his videos lately even if he is first I prefer watching your take Chris. He is like LTT now seems very bias and does paid conent. I have also noticed or didn't before that he never mentions issues or problems at least you have.
This seems to be the right choice for 7940hs/780m mini pc's that are fast and stable out of the box. However, with that bios, I don't think it could ever reach it's max performance potential like is possible with the Beelink GTR7 (w/ early bios). Maybe with UXTU and/or other utilities, but I still don't think so. IMHO, if tweaking stuff is part of the equation, GTR7 might be the better option for some.
GTR7 can never reach the performance potential of 7940HS because you can't buy it barebone and the SSD and RAM they supply are pure garbage. 3200MT/s RAM with sloppy timings and the absolute worst consumer NVME (Kingston NV2) and you can't even configure it above 1TB. These things are way more important to extract performance from the 7940HS, and the Minisforum is sold barebones so you can add your own Western Digital SN850 4TB and actually decent RAM. The charging "port" of the GTR7 being proprietary is another red flag to the unit. The only big advantage the GTR7 has is you can allocate up to 16GB of RAM to the iGPU which I hope Minisforum can update their BIOS to also let you do.
Very valid points have used the GT7 Pro. Also the SSD in this minis forum is poor for PCIe 4.0 low end kingstion. I'm upgrading it to a SN850X. If you add 64GB and set UMA optimised in the bios I believe it will give you 8GB or 12GB of VRAM but yes I think they need to give us a 16GB option as right now 6GB is the max.
@@Vinterloft "SSD and RAM they supply are pure garbage" - Hyperbolic and incorrect "GTR7 can never reach the performance potential of 7940HS because you can't buy it barebone" Are you implying that it is impossible for GTR7 owners to change their ram and ssd? - Incorrect. " The only big advantage the GTR7 has is you can allocate up to 16GB of RAM to the iGPU" Incorrect - Has ZERO affect on performance. @@Vinterloft "The charging "port" of the GTR7 being proprietary is another red flag to the unit." First of all, it is not a "charging" port. It is simply 19-20v DC in (No magic or voodoo, so any 100w+ power supply will do). This is another parroted comment across the internet that is starting to bug me. I have used a 150w GAN power supply on the GTR7 and the only thing it did was drop performance slightly. The power supply for the GTR7 is a quality GAN 100w unit and nothing more is needed. I bought the same model, but unfortunately it has a crashing problem. This seems to be quite widespread, but unfortunately no RUclips review actually addresses it.
My unit doesn't crash at all otherwise I would mention this like I did in the Beelink 7840HS and GMKTeck 7940HS reviews my issues with crashing and reboots. All I've found is issues with HDMI 2.1 ports at 4k120 cutting in and out. Maybe review units are golden units, there was a huge delay in me getting this. One unit got lost (apparently) like Minis Forums didn't want to send me it. Fianlly 2 months later I got it. I know one bias mini channel never mentions any issues ever he would have encountered and everything is always amazing go buy it etc. All to keep the review units and paychecks coming...

I have recently placed an order for one of these devices from Amazon. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to utilize it in conjunction with emulators.
How's it working out?
Thanks to your reviews of other minis forum PCs I bought my own and I'm very happy with it!
Great to hear!
I also bought it and came to me last week, until now it is perfect, cool and stable!
Could also be the cable that minis forum send with this minipc, maybe try another working HDMI 2.1 cable?@@Techtablets
How is it after 8 months?
Very useful once again, Chris. This unit seems to have almost everything.
Indeed it does!
This was a super helpful review thank you for showing real time clock specs. So many people reviewing these don't reveal that and it's majorly helpful.
I have one and it's fantastic mini PC. Silent and powerfull. I'm very happy playing games with this beast!
Great to hear!
What games have you played and finished on that mini PC so far, friend?
God of war, Uncharted 4, and lot of games in PS3 PS2 and PS2 emulators. And God of war I play in ultra mode graphics.
That is awesome. Thanks for sharing friend!@@jbote2068
Excellent! Thanks for testing Linux as well.
You are wrong, Ryzen 9 7945HX3D uses AMD Radeon™ 610M, not the 780M. Minisforum will release a new mini pc with Oculink port.
The oculink version will come out in Nov this year. Please review it !!!
@@MaxPower-11thunderbolt 5 pc won't be out until 2025.
Its going to be amazing to see what FSR 3 does to the performance of these units, from what I am seeing from the mod.
Chris never disappoints, great review brother.
Awesome review, you make easy to understand
This was a good review, it does help me in making a Decsion to Buy this Unit. Thanks
i bought a barebone UM790 from Amazon....as Chris said, no thermal issues, not too noisy(even on performance mode) but unplugging and plugging cable from the peripherals ends up with a restart in order to work as intended.
Anyway - I returned it today. Now I'll run my Batocera on my 7800x3d / 4090 rig. Maybe an excess of power-use, but probably most stuff will run.
Never disappoint with your reviews
I want to thank you for showing more graphically demanding games for the hardware you review.
You're welcome
Thanks!

Hi, how do you think Flight Simulator 2020 can run with this UM790 PC? At what resolution? I thank you in advance for what you can help me choose. Thank you
Thank you for the great review. Any plans for a 2024 review?
I have the UM790 Pro and I run MXLinux 23.1 with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Matter of fact, I just moved my M.2 2TB drive, "OS and all" into the UM790 Pro and it booted up with no issues whatsoever, It recognised all the Hardware and reconfigured itself for the new hardware.
You can yes. Yes on both.
Mines on 1.01 random crashes. Okay that explains why there are no updates in the support page.
Hi, what I've noticed is it will make gaming a little smoother high 1% lows. Also for video editing it seems to help a little smooth out the timeline.
Thanks.
Thanks for this thorough review. How did you enter the Bios menu?
I just bought it (April 2024) but it comes with Windows home (why ??).

Thank you
I've not had issues my unit has been great for me.
Is an external Graphic Card (e.g. Nvidia 4060) connectable with the Minisforum UM790 via Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 through eGPU docking station?
Would it support the Samsung 34" 21:9 display at 3440x1440??
Its a older video, but hope my message gets to you: Would you recommend this one over the UM780 XTX?
Comparing the UM790Pro to the UM780 XTX we get the 7940HS vs 7840HS, no occulink vs occulink, 1x 2,5Gbps NIC vs 2. The vendor is offering the UM790 Pro as a replacement for my UM780 XTX which has stability issues. Wondering if it is worth the loss of oculink (I did get an eGpu) and the second NIC vs 100MHz speed bump...
What about running hot? Can i use it with resolve 18.6 for video editing
Yes it was fixed I can run 4k120 no issues.
Finally :)
Thank you Chris, great review and I am glad I ordered this one as well, just barebone.
Thank you for the review. How is the Wifi connection?
It's good no issues I thought the location of the antennas would be an issue but no fine.
Thanks a lot that's reassuring to know
But what I have just notice using a BT mouse it lags a bit where my other pc it doesn't!

They certainly are, I can't wait to see next years Lunar Lake with the next Intel iGPU.
@@Techtablets I hope that iGPU will be as fast as the 3050 at least. But seeing near 1650 performance on an iGPU is something to behold.
Sure is there are some models with 7200Mhz ram and that is when it matches the GTX 1650. Impressive stuff.

Am I the only one who would prefer one of the USB4 ports to be on the back? Connecting a USB-C monitor, eGPU or whatever to the front just seems awkward....
Yes would prefer them on the back with two USB type a and maybe two USB 3.2 type A on the front for quick flash drive plug in etc .
Will it run games like Baldurs Gate 3 or Elden ring?
Hello and greetings from Germany, great video, have now also bought a UM790 and am a little disappointed, unfortunately I cannot set a resolution of 5120x1440, is that with you too?
I only tested max 4k res 120hz no issues. As that's all I have with my monitor and TV.
Hi could you recommend an extention for that little fam cable please.
The iGPU in my Hades canyon gets a higher Timespy scoe than the 780M (in a Minisforum v3, performance AC mode). I was surprised by that.
really useful review, just bought one of these, unfortunately before i saw this so couldnt use your affliate link
No worries! It's a shame I got this so late for some reason.
Does linux come with drivers for the GPU?
Can you test at a higher tdp for a future video im curious to see the results … Also what would be the best way to power this up remotely via a wireless keyboard etc …. Also if you attach vesa mount does it block the fan ventilation on the bottom ?
Hi, I did test higher TDP today and I see no difference really at all. Still hits 49W max running Cinebench even when set to 54W. The fan with the VESA mount isn't blocked half is still open, doubt it will make too much of a difference a few degrees more.
@@Techtablets thx and last question is there a way I can power this up remotely via keyboard… Bluetooth etc
I haven't looked into it, but I believe so, power it up over LAN or Wifi.
How does this thing handle music production and heavy thirsty plugins? I have a i7 now that can't handle anything
Tap on boot F2 and del keep tapping them the moment you boot it up and you'll be able to enter the bios.
Do those new mini PC's have better performance than All in ones at a similar price point
These ones do yes.
Have you tested the gaming with a higher ram allocation in BIOS since your initial review? Does the performance setting really improve anything?
It slightly improved the 99% lows with FPS
Getting this for my main driver for some Adobe Illustrator work. My Mac doesn't have drivers for my main print machine unfortunately.
might be an overkill but this is the perfect machine for PlayStation 1 & 2 emulators. With 2 TB storage, you can have the complete PS retro collection of all time!
Overkill for sure, would run them perfect.
Some other channel has already tested it. This mini pc runs PS1 PS2 and Nintendo emulators perfectly.
Yeah no brainer really as the don't need supers hardware. PS3, Switch and others need a bit more power.
Did anybody test the WiFi for performance, saw a video on geekom with similar specs having poor connection for some reason
i believe if you configure the bios in gaming mode and the memory for gpu to 6 the score could be different

Anyone know what the maximum capacity of each of the M.2 slots one and two on the UM790 Pro and UM780 XTX?

Is it possible to improve cooling by adding an external fan to the bottom of the miniPC? to increase air circulation inside the box?
Yes that would help later units they did add these cooling fans.
I use the Ser6 Pro and the CPU Temp is nearly never under 50 Celsius during browsing... do you had the same problem?
Seems so but the fan noise is very good so i'm not too worried. Seems they run hotter at idle than intel.
My guess (not an owner) I wonder if after the fan has gathered 3-6 months worth of dust, and thermals start to get pushed and things start to go south. Would love to see a unit that's super easy to remove dust from.
Элементарно все чистится баллоном со сжатым воздухом или электрической воздуходувкой.

Yes it is but with lower FPS, I used 720p for Cyberpunk as 1080 was around 30-40fps.

Much better review than that bias ETA Prime. Turned off from his videos lately even if he is first I prefer watching your take Chris. He is like LTT now seems very bias and does paid conent. I have also noticed or didn't before that he never mentions issues or problems at least you have.
How much performance can you get with having 6gb memory for gpu?
The only point I made, was that an unlocked bios gives more opportunity to tune for performance than a locked one. Are you 10 years old? It feels like I'm having a conversation about who's daddy can beat-up who's at recess in elementary school.
@@Vinterloft Oh, I missed one. "These things are way more important to extract performance from the 7940HS" - Utter horsesh!t
Kids these days...
I purchased this product, I don't understand why, even when I stress the processor to the maximum, it never reaches 5.2Ghz as declared by the manufacturer. Can someone explain to me why?
currently using HX90 and really like it. A few rare intermittent issues.
Planning on getting The UM790 Pro in a couple weeks.
Having trouble deciding to go barebones and add performance components like I did with HX90
or just use the factory supplied mem and SSD.
Would save some money, but have to open the tiny case.
Any thoughts anyone?
is it worth it, would I notice the difference?
what did you end up doing? Thanks!
Can you change the COMS battery or is it Soldered in?
You can change CMOS battery.
@@tono971 Thank you
I bought the same model, but unfortunately it has a crashing problem.
