Scopitone's What I Say

- Scopitone was a 1960's type of jukebox featuring a 16 mm film component. Scopitone films were a forerunner of modern music videos. The first Scopitones were made in France. These videos came to me through my brother-in-law Carl. He first showed them last September while we were busily preparing to travel to Lopez Island for Robyn's wedding. I don't know if Carl was nervous about traveling to this estrogen soaked destination, but I was. We watched the Scopitone music video DVD, as a sort of pre-game warm-up exercise. "Pussy Cat A Go Go", performed by Stacy Adams and the Rockabily Boys, was the first video on this disk. Yes it is plainly misogynistic, but it is also a product of it's time, plus it's French. The second video, "What I Say", by Sylvie Vartan is not sexist, but it is even more French, Ce que j'en dis.

"It's what Chtulu said!"
Admit it , you'd dance this exact way to this song if nobody was around.
what a lovely film. the singer, upon a few viewings, reminds me of Lulu. i love her energy. most young people at the time danced like that. in a tv series of the time called The Human Jungle, the main character is a psychiatrist and his teenage daughter says in one episode she had seen a client 'at The Twist Club'. they all danced the same. it is plainly NOT misogynistic. she is not undressed and there is man in the film who dances with her. thanks for posting
Sylvie Vartan is a legend, who along with (future husband) Johnny Hallyday, did so much to introduce R&R to France, and is known even to us Yanks who have immersed ourselves in that era from afar. She is one of my most favourite Yé-Yé Girls, bested only by Françoise Hardy.
Sylvie has a new album out this year called Mercy Pour Le Regard.
Superbe Sylvie ❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍🎸🎼🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶💯
"Tell ya mamma tell ya pa I'm going to send ya back to Marseilles!" vivre Sylvie et La France ! Libertie et equalitie TOUT LA MONDE!
This is great
Sylvie Vartan, 1962, in twist mode.

I remember these....always had models in them...there is a Bobby Vee "Pretty Girls Everywhere" and a great Buddy Greco "Lady is a Tramp" and the George & Teddy/Condors...Just Like Me...are the ones I remember off the top of my head
Go, Sylvie baby, go!
What a cutie!
Was about to write that!
All shot in one Take!
Dance like her and you'll never have a problem with irregularity.
great song
I have no idea what she's saying, but I dig the way she says it.
Saw this on an old Scopitone juke box in the 60s.
Beans on toast that'll be 2 and threepence please.
"Est-ce que tu le sais?" = "Do you know it?"
Can't believe this is from 1961
Trop mignonne, j'adore !
Ray Charles' original hit is from 1959, but I'd say this is likely 1965 or before.

what year is this?
I don't actually know, but my guess is 1962.
I'm sure you'll agree that Sylvie looks great in the video.
@@colindant3410 Correct. It's from 1962. Last cut off her debut album.
這是我看過最棒的妞妞舞
As my dad would say: "That's not dancing. Also, I'm not sure it's singing." And ten years or so after this was made everyone agreed. Of course he'd be 100 this year, and probably would be relieved he couldn't see OR hear it.
I take it that he didn't like it!
Sounds like your dad was an asshole who was jealous and envied anyone with talent and you took after him , why else would you post such a ridiculous comment.
damn what a fun life you guys must've shared together...
If you think Pussycat a Go Go was misogynistic, you must *really* hate twerking. I'm old enough to have danced all of those dances, minus twerking. It's been my pleasure to have played for many Sock Hops, even today, and the young and old still Swim, Twist, Frug, and Jerk to the oldies.
Please, spare us your faux moralizing.
Not a very good singer, but very cute and cool to look at
If Sylvie Vartan was such a lousy singer, then how could she possibly have a rather successful multi-decade-long career as a performing artist, as she has had?
She sings fine.
She's lasted nearly six decades so her voice can't be that bad.
This is awful.
@morash2683 Gay, you mean like your grandfather?
