I am from the Caribbean. Our local dance styles are of African origin. check out the carnival celebrations and the performances of various troupes similar but this group is just AWESOME!
I been to carnival and nothing like African dance ,all I see whining, lol, this dance is Senegalese way of dancing.Am glad my African brothers in Caribbean are going back to their roots
karma is real Carnival is commercialized, the traditions and practices they don’t advertise is where you’ll see it. Plus how we dance now is African-Caribbean, it tells our story.
These young ladies are very talented. Their having a good time with energy and fun. They are doing an African dance from Guinea West Africa called Sorsonet. Mama Taylor
This was absolutely BEAUTIFULL!!! Sorsonent a traditional dance performed by "young girls", and they OWNED IT! There energy, and the choreography ohhh and the drumming complimented each other well! WELL DONE DANCERS DRUMMERS AND INSTRUCTOR! WOW WOW
So proud African dance, traditions and cuisine survived slavery in the Caribbean. When Caribbean people migrate to England, America, Canada etc we take those traditions with us. Is this a fertility dance
Folks, the name of the group is the African Caribbean Dance Theatre, Inc., based in Tallahassee, Florida, and the name of the dance is sorsonet. If you would read the comments under the "about" section, you would know this. If you want more info, check out fadf.org.
Great work! I've used your video in my class to demonstrate how drumming and dancing complement each other. I've also used it to show the repeating patterns the drums play, as well as the animation of the dancers. Excellent performance!
I loved this performance!! I performed a loooooonnnng time ago with ACDT. I was wondering if Mr. Marcus kept video from over 10 years ago. Do you know?
