Thank you! Four hours of hammering and prying and I got maybe 10% of our bathroom demoed. I was about to cry. Now I just need a grinder. 😁

Great video. I've watched several others about demoing these tiles, and this is the first that made it look manageable!

Thank you for sharing this video. It is the closest one I’ve been able to find for what I’m up against. Great tips…. My extra challenge is the ceiling is also built this way in a 1967 shower stall.

So helpful. This is exactly what I needed. I can demo. Demo'ing and leaving the rest intact is a trick. Thank you so much.

Great information! Can you explain really quick as to why you don’t just beadboard over the existing tile? Thank you!!

We needed to remove the old tile to replace 60 year old plumbing, which I'm glad we did. Beadboard glued over the tile should work, however plan how you'll trim it out to get a professional looking result.

Can you use the grinder when you have metal mesh lath behind the concrete and tile without causing sparks and possibly a fire? Very old bathroom in an old house.

Thanks for this! I've got similar tile in my shower/bath which, like this, does not go to the ceiling so the paint peels in there constantly because of the humidity. I'm going to add some tile above the existing tile to the ceiling, but the top layer of the mudset tile is bullnose. I thought it would look weird to install other tile right above the bullnose (i.e., I assume the new tile wouldn't sit flush against the rounded bullnose), so was looking to get rid of just that bullnose layer. Any special considerations using this technique for that purpose? Would it be easier and still look OK to just install something like a pencil tile adjacent to the bullnose and then my new tile above that?

I have the same exact bathroom! From layout to tile. Do you have a final result of your hard work?

Any tips for getting the 7 inch diamond blade on the angle grinder? It is not secure and falls off when I try. Thanks!

How about the cast iron tubs that are in these old bathrooms. They take a bit of smashing also.

Thanks for the advise, very helpful. Any recommendations on removing floor tile that has mesh as well? Same technique?

I have already perform a demo on my 2nd floor bathroom and remodeled it completely. I used a Rotary Hammer to get up the tile floor, mud and wire lathe! You better wear ear plugs and and ear coverings! Very Loud!!!!

Problem with running that 7 inch grinder across the wall. You run the risk of nicking a water pipe or power line.

Can anyone please help? I removed tiles from my 1950s bathroom wall, they were applied directly over a mudbed over cinderblock wall. The mudbed now had some pretty deep holes in it how can I get this tile ready? Should I somehow remove it down to the block wall? (I tried with my sds hammer drill, and a diamond cup grinder, wasn't working too well)or should I fill the low spot and smooth the wall, if so how? I would really appreciate recommendations thanks
