    I decided to make a video on dealing with root rot. We often deal with a biofilm buildup as well as some brown stuff on our roots. It can be caused by several things, like low oxygen, high water temperature, dirty reservoir, nutrients. I'll talk about getting rid of root rot in a DWC Hydro (Deep Water Culture Hydroponics) setup and preventing it from returning.

      Cold air in sounds great but the pump itself gets hot and will heat the air as it passes through the pump. Maybe put your main line in a cooler with ice and adjust the length of hose to be long enough that it has time to chill air as it passes through.

    Silver bullet works but in my experience it's all about the water temp. 18 c is good for me and I never do tank changes, only topping up every few days to rebalance nutrients. I read that keeping the same water and just topping off can also increase natural pgr's. NASA tried this with nft and kept the same start water for a year or more and had great results. I wondered if the outcome would be the same in rdwc and have had no problems since using this method. It's like maintaining a healthy fish tank, the more you mess the more issues you may have. And remember, the nutrient company's want you to be dumping your res every week so you buy more nutrients and snake oils! Kiss is the key but keep them temps in check and consistent. Happy growing all.

    This is one of the most helpful hydroponics videos I've found yet! I have strawberry plants that started off growing great and then went south, wilted, dried out, and stopped growing. I really don't see any slime but the roots aren't creating any new growth and are brown, except for 1 or two of them. I'm not sure if that's due to root rot or some other problem. I've been thinking of getting them a dedicated pump to see if that works better. I have one with about 12 nozzles leading to various plants. I notice the lettuce growing in a mason jar with its own air stone bubbler inside the jar is growing wonderfully and has roots that are white and about 8-9 inches long! I'm thinking the smaller amount of water to the higher air ratio might be what is making it do so well.

      Strawberries require inoculation, not sterilisation. Strawberries rely on bacillus, microbes, and fungus, not just NPK neuts.
      If your air flow is low the plant will die, if the water is too hot etc etc etc.
      The roots on Strawberries ho brown due to the plant exudate, where as nightshade (Tomatoes, potatoes, cannabis) don't require inoculation.

    I was using hydroguard but recently switched to Orca on my last two runs. Hydroguard works pretty well but the Orca is a mix of liquid mycorrhizae with beneficial bacteria. It is highly concentrated and only use a half milliliter per gallon of water. I also have a RDWC system with a .25 hp water chiller that I keep programmed at 68*f. I’ve seen Better results with the Orca and I highly recommend that you give it a try.

  • @ozzyaararon
    @ozzyaararon Год назад +2

    One thing I'd say is that some products are more about sterility (UC Roots) and some are about trying to introduce microbes that will out compete root rot related microbes (Hydroguard, Orca, etc). You wouldn't typically want to run both types as the sterile options like UC Roots (its an acid) or H2O2 will kill the beneficial stuff you added. I think really with DWC you should make a choice to go semi-sterile or not. Probably as a noob having tried the beneficial route (Hydroguard, Hygrozyme) I'd recommend using UC Roots or something like that for first grows. Some people even grow with low levels of chlorine and it works. Chlorine is as natural as any other element ... its not gonna ruin your plant or make it poisonous or nothing.

      It is ,
      when it’s sit out for around 6/12/ even 24 hours if you want with the top off let it declorniate itself Google it. It’s out there study man. Study study. Depends if using organic nutes also. It’s best to use rso or distilled water. There’s a man that uses a old water pipe that comes out of the rock in Kentucky that is the perfect water. Free just gotta find the source that’s near you.
      And personally I’ve used it straight from tap and couldn’t tell a difference if the ph and ppm where on point.

    Cold packs, mentioned diy frozen water bottles 'n stuff, is definitely the cheapest way 😅 (we only get about 3 kw/h per dollar)
    Sadly, we don't get uc roots in germany, but I've heard tons of times, that people switched from hydroguard!
    The right Enzymes are also helpful to get rid of dead root mass and are refeeding it to the plant and mycorrhizae, if you use 'em...
    Loved the dirty ass crack comparison 😂
    I always use it for making a point like there's no in between, it's either clean or not, there's no "almost" or "kinda" 😅
    Also: in every modern country you'll find seriously fat people. Like so fat, that their arms physically can't reach their cracks, so how do these people stay clean? Do they wipe at all? With all the unhealthy eating, they usually shit multiple times a day, so...? 🤔😂
