Fern is so special because I always saw him as more than just a grass version of Finn, but as a metaphor for personal growth and becoming a better person. It’s like there’s the real you trying to cooperate with a toxic side of yourself who doesn’t want to cooperate, so you’re unable to fully improving yourself for the better. You try to love out the bad till it gets better, but eventually you realize you can’t continue loving a trait in you that needs to be improved. You will have to let go and destroy the bad to be able to grow as a person. This is where Finn destroys Fern with his robotic arm. It doesn’t feel good because in the process of becoming a better person you’re also super vulnerable, afraid of hurting yourself when facing the fact that you need to be better. When Finn plants Fern in the ground it represents how you can use the wisdom you have gained from growing as a person to make things better for yourself and the future, so destroying the bad didn’t go to waste, but created a process that now means you’re better at loving yourself and loved ones better than before. Adventure time is full of very deep and important life lessons explained through weird and silly metaphors, but that’s one of the reasons why this show is so great and you’re able to return to it. It only gets better and reveals more secrets the older you get to be honest. Thanks for making this video of our precious boi Fern!
The most tragic part of Fern is that he's the Finn from Episode 1. This Finn is just an exact copy, an uncorrupted save file before the original Finn became the Finnsword. It's an existentially cruel dilemma, because technically, NEITHER of them can be called the real Finn. This is the most wild show in existence.
Fern is without a doubt the original and real Finn. His consciousness was altered only in the ways a regular human's consciousness is altered by experiences. But he never ceased to be or come into existence as a duplicate or recursive timeline version. I'm not sure either Finns really understand this, but if they did I imagine Fern would have demanded to be left with Prismo.
If not for the emissary from beyond he could’ve actually been a better hero than Finn himself, the grass sword always was finn’s strongest weapon after all.
i find it really interesting how during elements it was fern who was overtaken by the candy element, while finn was taken over by fire. fern, the character we typically see feeling frustrated and angry, was overtaken by pure fun and joy, while finn, who’s typically pretty cheery, optimistic and the ultimate goody two shoes was overtaken by unfiltered anger and violence. you might expect it to have been the other way around, but when you think about it it makes sense: they both gave in to the allure of what they wanted most. fern got to detach from all his problems and forget about them so he could always have fun and never worry, and finn got to let all his frustration out, blow off all the steam that comes with the weight of always being the hero, always being responsible for everyone around him, the obligation to save the day no matter the odds. they both know these are not healthy ways of coping with their problems, and neither of them actually want to be the people these forces turned them into, but still the temptation was just too strong, and in the end neither of them could resist.
from 1:34 to 2:28 always made me really sad. especially the part where he reaches for his finn bib and jake was about to call him out for the bib “not being his”
i genuinely feel so bad for fern, like imagine having all ur memories from before and everything but you find out your actually a clone and all your loved ones start hating you because you're a clone
I'll never forget Fern. I remember how jarring it was knowing that a version of Finn was inside a sword, just trapped forever. Then when Fern came about, I couldnt stop thinking about how depressing his situation was. He escaped the sword just to find out there's really nothing for him on the outside. An equally tragic thing to note is how Finn becomes a better person because of Fern. Meeting Fern made him really reflect on how he was in the past, and how he actually wants to be. Its just a shame that Fern never got the chance to learn those lessons.
Adventure time is just so... amazing. There will never be another show like it. Fern is a great example of this. Imagine saying "Yeah so the main character gets grass sword and later that grass sword becomes the main character but made out of grass." Only adventure time man
i feel so bad for fern having to live as a copy of someone who you once were and still feel like but no one treats you the same as u were before, not being able to do the things you once loved, just being seen as some grass demon boy :( I’m glad in the end he became a beautiful tree where he lived all those years and is at peace, ik it seems bad but maybe it’s good he’s dead, he’s finally at peace
fern is literally my favorite character. my favorite line from him is: “why don’t you fight me like a real butterfly?” he’s just so depressing and silly at the same time
If I remember right, Fern was the original Finn… which is even more sad. The Finn and Jake we see in the show after that Primo episode were the duplicates.
This is a good representation of what its like to change and deal with everyone's understanding of who you used to be. Depression can make you a worse person, and part of the struggle to becoming better is you expect yourself to act like you did before you got depressed. Just like Fern expected himself to be like Finn.

Fern is honestly someone I can relate to on an emotional level. He's so focused on the negative parts of himself. He views people as superior to him even when they're really not. He beats himself up over things that he as a being cannot do. He's trying to figure himself out all over again in a world that immediately chased him away.
honestly Fern is if you wake up someday and literally Everyone is calling someone else you, then everything you do and like is just a failure, and when you try to do something Other you only know that the clone you can do better, even knowing you're a different person than them...
4:18 finn went from ._. To >:0 real fast
Well... now that's confirmed that FarmWorld still exists, so by the logic, the "real Finn" is FarmWorld Finn.
Fern is a precious boi and that's a fact
Yes it is too.
A rock fact
@@joeljacques3635 Over the garden wall reference?? 👀
I love Fern's innocent smile, especially at 2:58
Just watched an interview with Ferns VA and he said he would record these in his closet and Fern’s voice was achieved by holding in bong rips
1:00 nobody gonna talk how he ran across the intire beach in under 5 seconds?
Precious bois are worthy of fast speeds
No because that's a cartoon
He is speed running Minecraft with rtx on
no lungs so he doesnt have to rest
I mean he's grass and grass is very light so maybe wind?
0:53 I felt really bad for him :(
Me too so much.
i love his lil tiny gasp
uwu
Yea me too
It's so surreal to know that the va was high the entire time he was voicing fern
Fern's story always makes me cry
Fern’s death was so sad,he finally got rid of his curse but it was the only thing keeping him alive:(
Yeah
You miss Finn and Fern awkwardly high-five on the roof
"What are you..?"
"a w e e d w h a c k e r"
"do you need a squoze"
"yes"
"i feel better"
1:11 Why was that so cute 🥺😭
Seriously 🥺🥺
0:11 this part was funny

01:13 too cute 🥺
Ikr
from 1:34 to 2:28 always made me really sad. especially the part where he reaches for his finn bib and jake was about to call him out for the bib “not being his”
i genuinely feel so bad for fern, like imagine having all ur memories from before and everything but you find out your actually a clone and all your loved ones start hating you because you're a clone
He’s not a clone he’s past Finn and the other finn is future finn
@@idk2545 he pretty much just Finn from an alternate reality, since he’s just the Finn from the Finn sword but merged with the grass demon thing
5:11 he is Finn but this guy came from an evil wizard in some black market shop.
No, he came outta hot topic
I'll never forget Fern. I remember how jarring it was knowing that a version of Finn was inside a sword, just trapped forever. Then when Fern came about, I couldnt stop thinking about how depressing his situation was. He escaped the sword just to find out there's really nothing for him on the outside.
An equally tragic thing to note is how Finn becomes a better person because of Fern. Meeting Fern made him really reflect on how he was in the past, and how he actually wants to be. Its just a shame that Fern never got the chance to learn those lessons.
4:03 I can relate bro
0:53
There, his heart broke
I'm not a demon, that hurt

3:31 This is my favorite scene about him. In all the ways he is finn, but he needs be something else.
Finn also has long hair
I feel like fern may be one of the most tragic AT characters just below ice king
4:23 everybody deserves a squoze
Adventure time is just so... amazing. There will never be another show like it. Fern is a great example of this. Imagine saying "Yeah so the main character gets grass sword and later that grass sword becomes the main character but made out of grass." Only adventure time man
I love Ferns hair so much,, it’s so beautiful
I've always wondered how much more "human" Fern would sound if he had Finn's voice
i feel so bad for fern having to live as a copy of someone who you once were and still feel like but no one treats you the same as u were before, not being able to do the things you once loved, just being seen as some grass demon boy :(
I’m glad in the end he became a beautiful tree where he lived all those years and is at peace, ik it seems bad but maybe it’s good he’s dead, he’s finally at peace
@@crimsonoutdoorsco.9640 sorry I meant seen as a copy, apologies for the confusion 😅
@@crimsonoutdoorsco.9640technically the original is farm world Finn
3:36 Were Fern and Finn gonna high five or something? Why did they lift their arms up slowly- that’s a lil sus, my dude.
Looks like it
i dont get it
They were but Fern’s arm “ Flinched “
He probably did it on purpose but idk-
@@Feral_cockroach121 Well he's fighting with a murderous demon for control of his own body, so flinching would definitely make him punch Finn there.

I get distracted from him being a cinnamon roll
2:38 jakes hand in this scene creeps me the fuck out
I can see why lol
omg noo why’d you have to point it out it’s so freaky 😭😭🤧🤧
HE GROWS A FINGER
fern is literally my favorite character. my favorite line from him is: “why don’t you fight me like a real butterfly?” he’s just so depressing and silly at the same time
Who ever voiced fern did a great job capturing the mannerisms of fin.
3:33
WHy Is hIS hAIr So pERFeCt-
So is finn’s
@@angelicart.6 True-
Fern is literally just the original Finn from the earlier seasons. Everything past "Is that you?" Is technically the alt universe clone.
If I remember right, Fern was the original Finn… which is even more sad. The Finn and Jake we see in the show after that Primo episode were the duplicates.
Yup... Sad ending for our boi. Hes more mature due to being trapped in isolation with nothing but a curse haunting him.
2:30 "it's okay not breathing is cool" 😂
This is a good representation of what its like to change and deal with everyone's understanding of who you used to be. Depression can make you a worse person, and part of the struggle to becoming better is you expect yourself to act like you did before you got depressed. Just like Fern expected himself to be like Finn.
Imagine being told your not the real you, then being called a demon
its so sad that he was called a demon and shunned by jake, his brother
1:28

he sounds like a calmer version of finn. You can sometimes hear the finn in him which makes it slightly sad.

I really liked the moment at 6:02
It reminded me of Light Yagami screaming that's right, I win
Really wish fern found his own identity in the end instead of dying.
His identity was Finn. He was the original Finn before he changed into fern
Fern IS finn
But he is finn
Time, it was time right ?

4:23 "You need a squoze?"

Aw precious bois
I can't imagine what it's like to be viewed only in someone else's shadow.
Already had that, but i would not dare wish that to anyone, not even my worst enemies.
Again, not only thay, but to be the *original* Finn and still be in your shadow
I was sad when he said "I just wish that I could see the tree house one more time. Thats okay, just promise to plant me there." Fern was such a great character, his end was really sad, very touching :(
Fern deserved better 😢
He deserved a wish from prismo or something to help him feel complete again.
Fern is honestly someone I can relate to on an emotional level. He's so focused on the negative parts of himself. He views people as superior to him even when they're really not. He beats himself up over things that he as a being cannot do. He's trying to figure himself out all over again in a world that immediately chased him away.
I remember when adventure time was just a show about fart jokes. I’m kind of happy that it became more serious
it sadder when you realize fern is the finn that we all watch since season 1.
honestly Fern is if you wake up someday and literally Everyone is calling someone else you, then everything you do and like is just a failure, and when you try to do something Other you only know that the clone you can do better, even knowing you're a different person than them...
I love Fern so much, and he deserved to have a happier ending with his family.
