    I just got a Force. Perfect timing, though knew it was coming. I've still got the MPC One, but honestly, the transition to Force is just a logical step. I love finger drumming on the MPC, but the Force just nails the workflow and now has all the great plugins, with clearly more on the way.

      Always thought about getting the MPC One, can you please explain why you feel the force is an upgrade ?

    • @alexwestconsulting
      @alexwestconsulting 2 года назад +11

      @@elevatewithmettavijnana6170 ok so first, mpc line still does not have disk streaming. As the lines converge, it’s reasonable to assume that it will eventually get it, but it may also be a technical limitation or akai just might not want to give it disk streaming. So it has to load everything into ram memory, whereas the Force can stream audio off the card or hard drive (mpc one doesnt even have hard drive option anyway). This kills the mpc line for certain highly visible use cases, like DJ'ing, even at home, or worse, using a long streaming sample as an audio track, since both lines only have 8 audio tracks. MPC just doesn't deal with long samples well which sucks, and I mean hard.
      Beyond that is the way music works in general. We have scales and measures, and we make songs by arranging these once we have song fragments built: verse, chorus, etc, but also elements we may want to flip to dynamically like a drop, or variations of those elements, or even just variations of, say, the hi-hat part, within one of those elements. Even if the mpc line gets everything the force does, the force’s arranger mode, hardware and workflow work naturally to build songs, and I don't mean just songs. I mean everything beyond the beat that it takes to make a song, even simple cases where you want to make and use small phrase sequences freely an interchangeably with ease. If you want to be the next NWA, MPC is for that. If you want anything more complex than that, Force is. You know how our number system is base 10 but in like computer science it’s base 8? Ummm yeah, you CAN convert between them, but our brains are not up to the task. It’s a mind fuck really. So it is with the akai lines. MPC is base 8, while the force is base 10. But base 8 is better for making beats. Get it? That's no small thing, it's just that the Force's base 10 is more intuitive, better, at everything else. I love making beats on the mpc but I DON'T love making beats on the force. But for everything else, the force is just natural. The second I saw the arranger mode working on the force and interacted with it with the grid and touchscreen, I was instantly converted. I still do have that mpc one though. I have a ton of gear, but the both lines are better than the competition so it’s hard to fully switch and not justify both. If there was one piece of gear I had to choose it’s the force. If there was one piece of gear I had to choose and I didn’t have much cash and I just wanted a groove box and make some beats it’s the mpc one (over live because of cost).
      Final thing is mpc integrated with the mpc software. It can do a lot, but there’s a reason it never shows up on best daw list. Akai co-made the ableton push 1 for ableton. They then made the akai force which can be standalone, but can also control ableton albeit not without hiccups. But it can do it way better than mpc. Because of that, I can standalone with akai force, then migrate to ableton to continue the song on ableton daw while still using the force to control the daw much easier than with mpc, because while mpc can export stems, anything else just isn’t natural. Very simply, if you A/B the 2 lines, you will instantly gravitate towards an mpc and feel cool (I mean inspired) making beats, but day 2 (I mean, eventually) when you’ve got things sorted out and you want to start making some songs, you’ll look over at the force. Both are better than anything we've had in the past, way better than anything a few years ago (I don't do Maschine past mk2, but I do Roland, Elektron, Deluge). MPC One is amazing value for money and it can do so, so much, way more than anything else as it is, and slays as a beatbox. Akai Force just takes it to the next level, so productive, the single most important piece of gear ATM IMO, will be the tool and inspiration to anyone to build up from a demo to a releasable piece of work that you will be proud of.

      @@alexwestconsulting And that comment is the reason the music production community is one of the best on internet :) I have been tracking these hardwares for 2-3 years now, was too busy to make the jump into beat making. your comment just saved me so much time and it is very well elaborated :) thank you for that.
      I think the conclusion for me would be to follow my gut and experiment with MPC Live or the one for a bit and later on transit to the force when im "readier" to make full songs.
      Right now, I just feel like experimenting, sampling having fun etc. it makes total sense to go with the simpler workflow of the MPC for that.

Sonically it will open a lot of doors for both lines. Maybe decide by then because reg price on opx4 is too high. And get a used mpc one. Tons of them out there. I got mine for $540 usd locally.

    I have a _long_ list of missing features in Force's software (and also bugs), but most importantly, I'd like Akai to fix the constant freezing of the system in version 3.2.1. It's been some time since it came out and it seems still not addressed. Anything else should be deprioritized right now, in my opinion.
    Anyway, if someone from Akai would like to hear my wishlist, it's this (most important to me, not including bugs):
    - expanding pedal events to note-on/off events
    - step recording (real step recording, not some kind of gimmick in event display mode)
    - putting clips (clip references) to arrange mode, not just raw events
    - naming rows
    - gain control for audio tracks (not just volume)
    - touching a knob should temporarily inhibit automation related to it (yeah, not that hard to do, but needs a little more sophisticated logic layer than just operating on low-level MIDI events, not sure if feasible to do in Force)
    - user-configurable names of CC controllers for MIDI tracks
    - output sysex templates for MIDI tracks (additional to CC controls)
    - user comments for projects, tracks, etc)
    - user patches for MIDI tracks (so not only program/bank can be selected, but also a set of params should be sent to the device; currently it doesn't work)
    - and of course the last, but not least: support for other time signatures than just "common time".
    BTW, clicking on a knob should also highlight (not focus) UI element on the screen.

    Some days ago I did comment a previous video you did about force (you were not that happy about the force in that case) and I’m glad you changed your mind about this product.
    Personally I use it together with a Nord stage 3 to compose and arrange, so basically I use them for the 80% of the production process, and I really believe this is the best balance to “force” myself to be creative, and work with a selection of instruments that make me to avoid to look always for the best instrument to use. I own Komplete 13 Ultimate and KK61 Mk2 but at the end of the day, too many instruments available only distract me… so I just samples some favorite drums from Komplete 😂
    And then this update is cool. I only hoped Akai was fixing some bugs and was adding also a new time signature function. Working only with 4/4 is a bit frustrating to me

      @DylanParisMusic  2 года назад

      Hi! I owned an MC 707 a long time ago, I have a few videos on the channel with it. They're a bit hard to compare but I'll try!
      I definitely prefer the Akai Force at this point. The biggest reasons are down to the hardware designs and what they allow the software to be. You are limited on the 707 in a multitude of ways that you aren't with the Akai Force. You can have more tracks, longer samples, more storage, and with the new instrument expansions along with the older keygroups and autosampling functions you can have a lot more high quality sounds of different varieties.
      If you find them near the same price, the Force wins hands down in basically every category for me. The 707 is a really neat piece of gear and I do regret selling it when I did, but if I had both now I'd probably never use 707.

There are ways in which the Force “beats” the Push on paper, but based on everything I’ve seen the Push 3 does what it claims to do power wise which means it’s basically a generational leap in performance with a much more mature and capable set of sounds and functionality. If you need an arranger mode in standalone though, the Force is the only game in town besides Maschine+

    I feel standalone devices are in their infancy and will become a super practical and simplistic way of producing and performing electronic music. Hopefully one day, they can make them to where they are a complete music studio without the need of a laptop. I would urge you to get the Push 2 over the Force as an Ableton controller. Akai really dropped the ball in that area. In Ableton control mode you can’t trigger midi notes or send cc for parameter changes or anything - it can only adjust volume and launch clips and scenes. It’s ass.

    • @HelicopterRidesForCommunists
      @HelicopterRidesForCommunists 2 года назад

      @@city.hermit Funny you say that because that’s what I eventually found out works for being able to send and receive notes. USB doesn’t work for me, and neither does Ableton Link over WIFI or Ethernet, but you can get some use out of it by using 5-pin directly to your audio interface. It’s still not great - and it’s nowhere near what was first advertised or presented by AKAI, but yeah that’s true. Too bad you won’t find that information anywhere on their website or Live’s website. They will tell you to use the midi network program.
      I’ve been following the life of the Force since day 1, and based off all of the frustration I have had with the device I sometimes think there is something fishy with the relationship between the Force and Ableton Live. Almost like there was a falling out or something between the companies or something beneath the surface, because I see no reason why the two don’t work together as well as they could. Idk - that’s just my opinion.

Unless you are a big user of the MPC software, don't hesitate. It really is huge though. My take on Akai is that they are really pushing to get out of the niche beat-maker scene (big as it is). Their involvement in developing the Push paved the way, a brief time when the Force SEEMED like abandonware, but then a steady obvious commitment to it and their plugins. I agree that it's the single best flagship, and I strongly believe that Akai is committed, NEEDS IT to increase it's market share with a common platform.
