Nice video, as always! If you haven’t already, you should try Wasatch Tenkara’s Baby Rodzilla! I LOVE that rod. It’s the perfect balance of lightness and sensitivity for smaller fish/creeks yet strong enough to land, some of the larger 16 to 17 inch trout that I encounter. Thanks again for your work!

I’m good friends with the owner of Wasatch Tenkara. My understanding with the name is that when he fished the samurai, he said it looked like a red light saber. I guess he is a pretty big Star Wars guy. That’s the name of the new rod became Darth Quattro.

11:21 just as you bring in that fish and finish saying “…nevermind it does” a huge one can be seen swimming from the bottom right corner along the rocks to the top left underneath the waterfall of that small pool

Quite a wonderful little stream! So heartening to see such a brook trout fishery - at present my “home waters” (in Shenandoah National Park) are all closed due to drought. While awaiting wetter seasons, it’s reassuring to see such abundant water and bounty. Thank you for this most enjoyable outing!

Sorry to see the break, always set the hook parallel to the stream under bridges and very low canopy. I have the Quattro 5:5. Fished it a few times and like it a lot. Very impressed with the quality of the cork, and the rod build overall. USA Tenkara companies have really stepped up, and I have no need to seek out Japanese rods anymore. My only negative critique is four way zoom is a novelty. If the zoom were from 6.5' to 8.5' with less sections it would be even better. I fish extremely tight streams in the NE and have never needed the shortest length.

Fast action at the second stream. I know the feeling when the rod snaps--sometimes in unexpected sections. I've even had one snap four inches above the grip! That's why we always carry that back-up rod!

11:15 hooks a fish when he says "this might be the first fishy looking spot that doesn't have a fish in it" and walks up to land him spooking a larger fish.

A couple of months ago I broke my Dragontail Shadowfire while trying to collapse a stuck section. Fortunately, I was able to get a replacement section quickly and cheaply from Dragontail. Good as new.

Got off to rough start there , hope the replacement part wasn't too expensive . I gotcha beat though , bought a rod once and broke the tip off getting in the car 🥺 fixed it , but I never liked that rod . #2 spot there was awesome , lots of hungry fish is always nice . Enjoyed the video , always do 👍👍

Brook Trout spawn in the fall. Before they spawn they push up into tiny headwater streams where conditions are best to spawn. These fish likely spend most of the year in a larger river with more food. Hence why they are so large.

Thanks for valuable information. I will be extra careful about fishing in small streams in Fall. I do not want to disturb their REDD.

Fun vid that really indicates the small areas that hold trout in such a creek.

The name suggests that it was made by nerds. Nerds make the best stuff. I think this little Sith rod might be what I want for panfish in the back eddies on the Salt River where I fish regularly when I don't have time to travel to places where trout live.

You see a lot of creeks loaded with brook trout but they are almost always kind of stunted, typically very small, never seen a creek with so many big and fat brook trout!

Hey Tristan 👋 I have watched a lot of your videos and I am wanting to get into tenkara fishing. I want to get a rod that isn’t too expensive but is also of good quality. I am leaning towards the aventik pro im12 nano in the 9 foot length. The only thing I am worried about is if that rod will be long enough for me? I fish for stock trout at roaring river Missouri and also around my house for bluegill. I would love to hear your input on if you think the 9 foot rod is long enough or not, thanks!

Have you fished the foxfire? I feel like they are a bit similar and am trying to figure out which one I want to pickup. Especially when youre talking about 3-4 in. fish, one of my creeks recently was stocked with thousands of fingerlings and my mizuchi is practically unusable I just throw them all out of the water.

I'm a fan of Dragontail, but this fishes better than the foxfire. I have the 5/5, which I think is the better choice for this rod.

  • @williammitchell265
