    So you prefer your system that takes up what 1/4 of your room? Towers that need wheels in order to move them, and a woofer that is as big as a small refrigerator? Well I'm shocked the Bose system that fits into ONE medium sized box didn't sound as well--I'm just shocked.

      Well, you got Definitive technology, Klipsch, KEF and B&W that make small speakers like Bose and they KILL what Bose offers. I know this because I still have my Klipsch Quintets, KEF HTS system and my Def tech Pro cinemas and I used to owned a Bose Acoutimas 15 systems and my gosh it is night and day. And guess what, the Bose acoustimas system costs more than a Def tech Pro cinema, Klipsch Quintets and KEF hts system. For the money Bose is not worth it. If the Bose acoustimas system was priced less than $500 then I think it would be worth it. Other than that, Bose is not worth the price.

    I have a Lifestyle 525 which uses the same double shot cubes, but a different AM module and I think you did a fair review. The sound of these Bose systems is very good for their small size. They do deliver a big sound in a small package, however you just can't get around the laws of physics when compared to much larger speakers. Bose made compromises and they have to rely on DSP and weird acoustic tricks to make these things sound as good as they do. Large speakers don't have to compromise. I have a small house and a small living room so for me I'm happy with my Bose system

      If I may ask, I just picked up acoustimass 15 set like new for $150. I'm curious as to how the bass , low frequency really is? Decent? I purchased the recline bose back in 1998 and it came with a Non powered low frequency bass mod. And it SUCKED SOOO BAD. I had to go out and buy a killer JBL 12" TO COMPENSATE. Now I have a Full cinema in basement, Klipsch all the way!!! Reference Premier Series! 7.2.4. With 2 SVS PB ULTRAS. 120" Black diamond screen. But this bose for $150 is going into my living room. I'm sure I got a great deal, I just wanna know how good this sub may be and what folks are setting them too??? Thanks

    I remembering hearing the satellite bose system when they first came out, back in the late 80's I believe, in a store we were remodeling. They had the satellites on stands with a black cloth draped over them. When they played them it sounded like large speakers, then they removed the cloth, it was impressive then.

      A 50 or 55 inch 1080p TV for around $4500+ . You can get a large 4K TV (65 to 75 inch) with a soundbar and subwoofer that's far superior, for half that price, easily.

    The main purpose of these Bose systems is to provide the best possible sound while taking up the smallest amount of space. It's made for people who don't have the space or don't want to devote the space for larger systems.
    I think newer Bose 700 soundbar along with their 700 subwoofer sounds great.

  • @jamesmcdaniel8765

    Its all about perspective imo. Yes if you're going from the original setup that you have to the bose setup then you would be disappointed! However, if you are like me and coming from a samsung soundbar and subwoofer to the bose soundbar, bose tweeters, and subwoofer the difference is like night and day. Also I agree that the small bose tweeters don't produce as much sound as I'd like which is why I bought the soundbar too . Additionally, I've never heard the subwoofer in the video but I can attest that the bose bass module 700 is probably the one you're looking for (it effortlessly shakes the ground while giving you that clear, accurate, and immersive bass that you are looking for) . Again this is only my opinion and I'm not used to the type of sound that you are but I guarantee you won't be disappointed with my bose setup!

    Gonna be honest, when I saw the thumbnail preview video loop playing you throwing them in the trash almost brought out the "dumbass audiophile bashing" rage in me, but you saved it - this was an AWESOME, *REALISTIC* video - down to earth, and spoke the truth - Bose is elegant, VERY powerful for their size and superb overall system-integration. People forget the engineering, customer service and tech ALSO costs money.
    Dude, you've got a sub for life bro. This was awesome. EDIT - OOP, NOPE, wait nvm. You started off strong and intelligent, succinctly describing the positive attributes and how they're good, then trashed them with the dumbest ANTI-Bose statements like you had to "cleanse" your slate clean in fear of fellow "audiophiles" (read: Wannabe audio experts") judging you just to keep your "audiophile" cred. Jesus dude, you flipped more than a fish out of water.
    If you were SO adament about their positive qualities in the first half of the video, why did you keep saying "the trash system" was a joke? Why did you say they were good in the first place?
    Just weird. Guess it really does take someone w/ a working brain in person to keep sane vs. the bullshit you see/hear on the internet about this topic. FWIW - I just had my POS Paradigm Millenia CT system die in a fizzle after a year, my Mother's system I sold her is going out, and every review on Amazon shows the same thing.
    Also, the Bose Companion 5's fry it in serious ways when it comes to sound quality; the bass especially; the Paradigm sub sounds like cardboard taped to a piezo tweeter in comparison, and weighs half as much as the Bose bass module, lol.
    Man, I thought you were legit, but nothing more than a shrill just trying to please his two-dimensionally thinking audience. Bose are big boys though, they generally gain hate BECAUSE they're better THAN ANYONE in their field - their design goals coupled w/ a realistic, "all around you" sound - not analytical or purely audiophile grade, but superb, and MORE than enough for 99% of people out there, even audio buffs who want a quality system that works.
    Btw, I've saved more links that most people have brain cells to Amazon reviews and even private blog posts of audiosnobs who are now either Bose converts, or acknowledge the reality of their performance, rather than this garbage you posted, lmfao.
    As a quick edit: I've owned Paradigm - SITLL own Paradigm, Bang & Olufsen, KRK, M-Audio (do music production) + Spica, Klipsch, Polk and having heard the B&W 800 series many, many times. Bose is still excellent. And I can't wait to purchase another system from them again!
    Btw, you're running rocks and Audiophile grade batteries under and on your speaker cables, correct? Also make sure you spend $232,000 on a turntable stand and isolation feet. Wouldn't want your objectively inferior vinyl recordings to lose the unicorn blood playback quality they snake-oiled them with at the factory.
    Fuck.

    The passive subwoofers in this style sounded far better with a high end AVR. Not the harsh class D junk that is being made now. I preferred AM-7 in a bedroom setup better than some of the higher end equipment. Highs were peaked and irritating. These still serve a purpose.

    SVS has compact prime satellite system including 5 speakers with tweeters in them and a 12-inch subwoofer for $1000 that can come in multiple colors. After that, you can spend a solid $250-$300 on a 5.1 receiver and be set.

    The crossover frequency in these systems is completely wrong chosen. Can someone please explain me, why the put such a high crossover frequency for their active systems? I have exact these bose cubes running at an old pioneer stereo amp with the passive Subwoofer version of this one here in the Video. And they are sure able to go down to 100 HZ on the right amp (using them NOT with the acoustimass module's built in pre amp). Why don't they use it like that?!? In my bose am 5 passive subwoofer I built subwoofer crossovers from ebay in it and it works pretty good. And also sounds better than most other bose 5.1/2.1 systems.
    Does anyone know if they are still selling their passive Bass modules with stereo inputs and cubespeaker outputs? I would be interested so much about knowing that

    Would have loved to see you optimizing the sound of the bose wired via the woofer + some room measurement tech like audyssey and a loudspeaker or floorstanding one for front left and right. I've started with a "cheap" acoustimass 6 series v and a denon AVR-X1400H due to budget constraints as a student. I was aware of the limitations of the satellites, but I expected somewhat from the bass module (turned out it isnt phenomenal, even though I thought it has to be for filling a room). Nonetheless, I knew I would upgrade from this 5.1 system by adding two bookshelf speakers for the left and right channel. I've managed somehow, but as it is a very unusual setup, I cant find any optimization tips online. No one seems to have had the same setup idea. Did you try wiring it through the woofer module and had any experience regarding the woofer positioning or adding front channels with a wider spectrum? Ty for your videos.

    I had the acoustimass 15 with the bose unit itself, if you calibrate them good and place the little speakers next to your ear they sound pretty special for there size in my opinion(when gaming and watching movies). With that said for music the high are unacceptable and they sounds indeed like you talk with a pillow on your mouth. Now that i have a Klipsch system i''m ofcourse more satisfied, it sounds 10x better. But weirdly enough i miss the Bose system sometimes and it's form factor.

    we have a passive acoustimas system in our bedroom, set up right, and surprisingly, it sounds really good, all wall mounted, great front end, aftter researching best watts per speaker, we chose 2 Carver 504 5 channel amps, 50 watts to sides and rear, 100 watts to bass module and r/l front channels, 110 watts to a Bose c10 center, we added 2 10 inch cheap dayton powered subs, and the reamining 2 channels of 100 watts, we found mint bose 701 towers, placed them up front, ontop of the subs, calibrated it all, and for a medium bedroom, music is good to great with mini dsp pro, custom HTPC, movies is out of this world, gaming to, yes I have awesome rare Infinity matched speaker setup, and a new NAD / Infinity in living-room with dual subs,AMAZING, but for a small to medium room, It can be done with some help...

      on another note, I would stay away from their powered versions, and treat the passive one as a complete speaker, not sats and sub, the sub fills out what the cubes cant, still needs a sub like most all speakers, if you set your frequencies and levels with this in mind, it will make a HUGE difference

    Im quite satisfied with my Bose setup. Im running an Acoustimass 7 module with the redline double cubes for L/R and a single cube for center, and an Acoustimass 3 for surround. I think the key for getting decent sounding bass from the module is the position. It kinda has to sit close along side the front wall near a corner of the room with the port about 2ft from the side wall. They say “you can place it anywhere” but you really cant lol. Also IMO i think the redline cubes from the 90s sound much better than the newer style cubes. I agree about prices tho they are way too high for new product but used prices online are the way to go.

    • @timharbert7145

      Totally agree about the Red Line modules sounding better. Also found that two levels of EQ plus a loudness control (dolby and 3 band e.q. thru the tv then bass/treble plus loudness via a Yamaha receiver) made it sound like Metallica was in my living room. Stereo imaging - yeah, not so much, but really most live rock shows don't have much stereo imaging anyway. So, yeah, studio recording of Dark Side of the Moon in quad? Pull out the Klipschs.

    • @timharbert7145
      @timharbert7145 3 года назад +1

      Update to previous Reply - For chips and giggles connected the old Red Lines to a newer, base model Emotiva A-100 amp (the 50 watter most buy as a headphone amp). Just setup a quick and dirty system to do a quick sound check - Dell PC running the Grove music player to a Schiit Modi 3 Dac to the Emotiva then the Acoustimas bass module and cubes.
      Ya know, they sounded a lot clearer than I remembered. A bit shrill at close range but 10ft or more away and they sounded pretty damn good. Ok, just ran one cd thru it, Public Image Limited's '9' album, probably not the best sound source, but I swear the Bose were on the verge of creating decent soundstage and imaging. Instruments were definitely separated and clearer than I remembered. A lot more detail too.
      Thanks to the video series, gonna give the old Bose another shot and play with setup this weekend. The Bose I have don't have the specialized cables like the one in the videos so also gonna try some decent copper cables to see if that helps. The supplied Bose wire is super duper thin. Clearly there must be something to these little guys cause they've stayed with me for about two decades.

      Yeah I have my cubes mounted up on the corners of my ceiling and run it all off of a Sony STR-DH590 and that seems to be plenty of power for the setup. I like to use the Front Surround DSP while listening to music, it makes it kind of fun to listen to because they have a unique sound. Its not audiophile quality by any means but it pleases the ear good enough for me and can still rattle the house if need be :)

    Bose is ok on the used market. A similar system like this is for sale near me(looks immaculate) for about 1/8 new price. Great for an everyday TV space at that price. Plus most receivers have parametric eq these days so you can easily boost the top end. Sounds fine like that.
    I dislike the value factor for sure(new) and most of their gear is rather average but every now and then you find some of their gear is ok. On my PC I spend a lot of time just using some 101 monitors with a sub. Not amazing at all but they have a really smooth sound which makes for easy listening.
    In a had other bose stuff that I've liked(802s with their equalizer and the soundlink were fun) but others were rubbish(vcs-10 and 301 at least in my room) They're an odd company.
    Their latest systems are ridiculously priced though, their top end system is just crazy for what it is.

    Let me ask, so I have had a Bose 7.1 red line series with a non powered sub. I just bought a JBL Pro 12 at the time as a second it was like $499. So since I've completely redone my theater with All the Best , KLIPSCH RP-504C, series towers 7.2 4 all the way. So basically I still have my bose 7.1 up along with my klipsch because it just looks so nice. My question to you is, I just bought a Bose acoustimass 15 system in Mint shape with all cables for $150. I think that is a steal considering I have an extra Onkyo THX flagship I'm not using to connect. What do u think of price? It's All Black ,not white, and im curious as to what you set the sub module too? Bass/LFE? See when I first bought our bose system 10. It came with a non powered module. So im curious as to how big a difference a powered sounds. Going in my upstairs living room. Just seemed to good of deal to pass up. It comes in 5 days. Let me know ,? I did watch all your videos too

    This was a good series and I believe you did it right. Bose seems to have lost their interest in most home audio. They have put a lot of their focus on headphones and have produced products for the small presentation professional musician.
    There are a couple of small speakers that I have owned and were good sounding. The older model, Infinity RS-225 was good for its day. I upgraded the woofer and was quite pleased with the sound.
    A model which I believe is still sold is the Energy CB20. It will surprise you with its sound and build quality. If any criticism can be levied, they are a bit bright. Placed in a home theater system which uses some form of DSP correction, they are compact, affordable and a delight to listen for extended periods.

I picked the lifestyle 30 ii with the cd player up, broken, for twenty bucks. when I use the video ports it trys to re-create the rumble found in theaters. for a medium sized room its not too bad. and I get what you are saying about the highs, I like tweeters too, but for a system with satellites that small it comes across pretty well. Also, there is a bluetooth speaker that I have that you might find interesting. It is a kit from parts express, a 2.1 speaker with sub, midranges and tweeters. Shopping for my first house and have been thinking about one of these for the living room. The form factor and value on the used market are both a hit, but the issues with dialog sound like a miss. I’m probably just going to save up for a Bose 900 bar and 700 sub. Get the benefit of a little bit of Atmos while still keeping a form factor my wife can live with (she’s the one who watches the most content anyway, I’ll have my two channel tube system in another room)

    First things first, BOSE is far from overpriced or expensive when trying to reproduce its sound with anther system with the same monies. Secondly this video is from the perspective of an individual who turned the living room of his 2400 sq ft house into a home theater with all those large and moderately expensive speakers.

    • @Audiomainia2310
      @Audiomainia2310 3 года назад

      Of course its way overpriced. Case in point;
      Canton Movie 95 5.1 system is engineered and manufactured in Germany. Cubes way 3 lbs more than Bose and are not sealed - grills come off too reveal a 3 1/2" driver with a 3/4" tweeter - placed dead center. Cone material is aluminum - not treated paper. And it costs 1/3rd the price of the Acoustimass system and blows it out of the water as to true sound reproduction.
      BOSE = BUY OTHER SOUND EQUIPMENT!

    It's interesting that you like both radio and cars but you don't like the both sound with these speakers. I think you tested the speakers without hitching on them up straight to the Bose subwoofer which is incorrect because there is DSP that both uses very effectively and all its products. DSP is in many things for example room correction which is so highly touted by you audiophiles now. Both was early on with DSP but now it's everywhere.
    I have a Bose soundbar with wireless surround speakers and it's a great system it sounds excellent.
    When you listen to your own system at home and you're listening through tweeters but then you go to a concert there are no tweeters at the concert. They use horns to send out voice. They even use horns and high-end theaters. Tweeters kind of stink but I know people like you get addicted to them they don't sound right they're very harsh they're awful they don't sound like a human voice at all. You need to go to some live shows and hear real voices to compare to your system to realize if your system is any good. the speakers that both use here send out air pressure much like a horn and that's what Dr boss was trying to achieve with these I'm more realistic sound than tweeters give you.
    Bows and banging Olsen were early on and trying to make speakers sound more like a real show sounds. You can use DSP to make your system sound like a stadium a club of different sizes and it's a lot of fun.
