@@christianjackson I work with Local 15 a lot, and it's just such a shame to see how bad our industry is taking this. I finally got on Precision's rigger list, but I dont think that phones gunna ring any time soon.
@@christianjackson There's probably a better place to ask this question but do you rent shelf space at the shop you took the MA from in the beginning of the video?

hey Christian, didn't know you were here in Mexico. I also performed at EDC too! but on the smallest stage (the BoomboxARTCAR). I'm always curious how big productions get done and you're one of my inspirations to one day achieve a big stage and, of course, try to give the best show ever. Thank you for sharing this!
Hi Christian really love the work you are doing. I am a LT from old school analog. Did not get chance to work with a digital board and moving lights till 2002 when the band i came to America in 1975 got back together after splitting up in 1979. Did a few shows and had a in house system in a theatre in NJ. Had a day job. Then the band got together in 2002 for Nearfest in NJ Trenton I had not done lights for Twenty four years. So had the butterflies especialy when i got up to the lighting desk and there it was. A digital board i did not no nothing about this kind of lighting system and another thing was we were the headliner for this festival. And we were also doing a video for later release. After that we did a few tours of Europe then the band split up six years later. Now the band is back together with a few different players i look forward to doing the gigs. We do not carry our own light like we did in the 70s where we had two semis full. we carry our own liquid light show and video we are using lights what ever is available in the theatre we are playing I am. 72 year old and love it wish i new all about digital and led lighting and the boards of today. the band i am with and been with since 1974 is called NEKTAR we have a lightshow as well as lighting they Have about 20 albums and a few dvds I wish you all the best and keep up the good work yours. You should do a video explaining some of your most interesting shows. Either that being location or say something that happens at the event like wind storm or your console crashes. Would like to hear your stories. Also on a side note has the virus been affecting you like it has the majority of us?
So glad meeting you! Thanks for taking the time to talk to your fans. Also, thanks for all of these videos you upload! I had a blast, and your work is simply jaw-dropping.
Really love your videos Christian, they've been a great resource as I have found myself in lighting for the past year or so. Missed you in DC, or rather suspect you weren't at the LTC after-party. Got to meet Scott and watch him DJ as well haha, great crew on that tour. Would be interested in some theory focused content from you, going into some of the hows and whys of your lighting decisions during a show. Maybe get a rundown of your programming essentials and favorite go-to techniques. Keep it up dude 👊
3 USB 64GB two with the same library, the third with my own productions on there. Then a HDD I keep on my back pack that hold over thing so I can move files around or add new ones at the hotel.
I guess since I went to EDC Mexico and I'm always interersted on the behind the scenes of anything (specially music and live shows), I guess it was destiny to find your channel.
First time I've ever been recommended a video of yours but I love learning more about show lighting and sound production, especially, the work and systems that go into them beforehand. You've earned a subscriber today!
Love the videos and I'd like to thank you for the free info you give us. As a Mexican trying to come up in this lighting game, this video means alot during this time.
I attended LTC set and it was an amazing experience. The music, the visuals, the lights, all complemented so well, it was practically perfect! One of the best performances of the entire weekend! Nice work and vid Christian. Hope you guys can come again soon! Blessings from MX.
13:40, I love to help people, so in my backpack I always have some cables like aux dongles and stuff! Also, I make backups everywhere. People, for real, do backups, its not complicated and not time consuming, but one time it will save your life! (I personally even have a backup server at home!) Christian, great video! You've always inspired me, now I'm a kinda popular LD in Montenegro :D
19:40 as production manager this is my favorite game. Also I should say have your login credentials memorized for your cloud storage solution as mobile phones get lost stolen all the time.
Back up your LD. YES! I'm no where near the size of events your responsible for, but as a small time LD for a local band I have everything named so my fiance or another member could run the show if something happened.
I also carry network gear for backup use. Since I am a Onyx programmer and tech, I have my personal laptop with the software and the show file ready in case the main rig provided crashes.
Great video. Having backups is something I've started to think about as well. I did a light show in my street on the 5th of November. It was outside and my light are not outdoor rated so I brought out a tarpaulin just in case it rained.
I am a production manager for a big German full production company, doing mostly industry shows. Before I've been a light tech and OP. Good point, I always bring a spare set of glasses on every non-local national production that's longer than three days and every international production. Something I've learned the hard way is to always have a spare set of clothes (boxers, socks, t-shirt) when traveling with more than a carry-on. Had my luggage delayed on more than one occasion and it's not a great feeling to wear the same clothes on production as I've worn during traveling. Also in regards of fallback plans, all our production relevant docs such as CAD files or other stuff, copies of quotations etc. is on our company's server, usually also important emails so that if one of us ever can't make it and there's no way of at least a small briefing, they can just go through it and find everything they need. It also helps that in our office we are four project managers and we always kind of know what the other guys are working on, so taking over is even easier. As my main tools now are my laptop and phone I make sure to have everything from the server synched offline to my laptop and a USB drive and have two powerbanks for my phones. I also have small everyday needs distributed around my luggage, backpack and person, such as pain killers, tiny flash lights, pens and other bits and bobs.
really great video chris! i just keep waiting for your videos. Although i wish i could watch the whole show in the pov mode XD ...the other parts in the video are truly valuable. Great videos !!!

Heya Christian Jackson, I am a young DJ and LD in the Missoula MT area, and I believe you will be here for the Louis The Child show at the Kettlehouse that I will be attending. Trippy.. Saw this video right when I needed to. I have had a decline in my vision over the last 2 years and I just got glasses yesterday. My visions not to bad, like I can't read small to medium print on the tv 3-4 meters away and a stage from FOH is pretty fuzzy, maybe half as bad as your simulation. I do projection mapping for mainly psytrance and other psychedelic music gigs. My vision deteriation had me depressed for a while in a 'How ironic, the visuals/lighting guy can't see' sort of way... Knowing that someone at your level with way worse vision then mine (nice one on the simulation btw) still plows forward with spectacular results, really raised my spirits a lot! :) I can't explain why it's bumbed me out so much when there is a simple fix (glasses/contacts). You ever feel something like that? It's like I was beating myself up over the irony of the situation.. I'm prone to that sort of thinking, i'm one of those 'you can't hurt me more then I hurt myself' types lol Anyways, thanks for the energy lift and keep doing what you're doing man :)
Love this channel. Want to get in the industry (went back for an electronics degree just bc of this) and been wanting to find a channel like this. Love the art, tech, profressional, and legal stuff. One time I really f*cked up and didn't realize I was overwriting a bunch of effects when preparing for a show. I then saved it which overwrote everything and I didn't have any backups. Found out about this like 10 minutes before the show and tried my best to repair it all but it was the worst... Learned a lot from that - now always bringing a backup and I will never overwrite a show file right before the show again.
