An overview is provided on the impact trauma has on a person’s development, personality, behavior, emotion regulation, perceptions, and relationships to others. We discuss how working in Healthcare presents with unique challenges and creates risk for secondary trauma issues.
There is a specific focus throughout this training on Understanding Vicarious or Secondary Trauma, how it differs from other types of Trauma, and we review common professions that create risk for Vicarious Trauma, Compassion Fatigue and Burn out. We review Effective Modalities for treating Trauma and discuss the benefits of Mindfulness Based Stress reduction techniques. This training also focuses on the importance of supporting a “Healthy Helper” culture within the workplace to help normalize the impact of Vicarious trauma and provide safe avenues for employees to ask for help and access support services.
