Congrats, Kevin - you won the Carl's Place divot hitting strip! Here's the video from the live drawing: ruclips.net/video/FEOpFoiI4so/видео.html For those that didn't win it, you can buy yours here: shop.carlofet.com/extras/your-favorite-golf-simulator-accessories/divot-hitting-strip?acc=fdff71fcab656abfbefaabecab1a7f6d
Beautiful setup you have. I'm in the process of building my own and have to decide where in my shop I want to set it up. My options are in a corner like yours up against a wall or have it in the middle of the room with all three edges clear. I'd prefer the corner just to save on floorspace but am concerned I'll regret it. If you had the choice/floorspace would you still put it against the wall again? Going with the 4:3 aspect ratio and a 9' x 12' minimum screen size so I don't want to screw this up! Thanks
It really depends if you’ll plan to have lefty golfers, if it’s just right handed players, save the floor space I would say. Being in the middle of the room sounds like a cool idea though and you’ll be able to run it with side nets on both sides if you’re worried about shanks.
Thanks for the detailed review! Helped my dad build a DIY home simulator with 2x4s last year and we have been hitting off an old driving range mat. This would be an awesome upgrade especially since its decently thick and safer on impact!
Thanks for the review. I am still trying to get my turf to the right height. I love the way your turf is set up. I am Trying to get mine the same height. I accidentally bought 3/4 puzzle matt. I might double it up to see how it feels on my feet. I ordered the hitting strip like yours which is about 1.5 height.
Thanks for taking the time to not only review the feel and quality of the Carl’s stance mat and hitting inserts, but also how the different mats impacted launch angle and spin. That is something most people don’t take into account when setting up their sim room (or when hitting at a driving range for that matter). Keep up the great work and thank you for your content. 👍🏼👍🏼
Hello, I saw your DIY build video and was wondering if you had a link to the green memory foam you are using behind your screen. The link you have looks like it’s for the white memory foam Thanks Marvin
Great content! I put a simulator in my garage with Carl's impact scree, as per your recommendation and love. Thanks for your assistance on that. I've been looking at purchasing the carls divot strip, but shipping to Canada was too much. Love your content, maybe do love hole in one or closest to pin video.
@Peter Jurenovskis HI Peter, where are you from in Canada? I have not ordered any yet. I currently use the optishot 2 with the jagman joe top. I have pre-ordered the Rapsodo mlm 2 pro, so I will be pulling out the optishot and inserting a new hitting strip. I've done a lot of research, and I think the best option is to make or purchase the Carl's golf. I've watched Golf RnD's video on making your own, and that looks like the best way to make your own. I'll keep you posted on what I decide.
@@TheTerrymatthe Hi Terry, I’m in Timmins Ontario. I just received my Garmin R10 (have to send it back as the phone clip was missing). Ive researched hitting strips that are sold in Canada. Par2Pro has the CCE for sale, but many reports say that it’s still too firm for striking. Does anyone know what type of foam padding (and where i can get it) is under the turf? What density etc.? Let me know about the new Rapsodo.
@Peter Jurenovskis I use interlock foam tiles, which can be firm under that hitting mat. You need some type of memory. I'm not sure where to get outside of a mattress topper. I will def let you know about the rapsodo. Reviews look promising. I'm from Windsor-Essex, ontario.
Love your content. Thanks for reviewing. I’ve been looking into making a simulator in my home. Appreciate it. Would love to see you do some rounds on your sim.
Love the review, trying to figure a new insert for my simulator. This helps immensely! You have to play TPC Scottsdale, great course, played last March
Great Comparison video thank you for sharing, I find myself currently looking to try something new as well it is how I found this video. I have been using the player preferred from fiberbuilt and it just wears out too quickly imo I have hit about 10k shots on it already turned it around and wore out the other side as well so I think I may try to cut something into the actual mat and retro fit it. I purchased aa new center piece yesterday just to make it less of an issue to try some new things out with the old one. Again thank you for sharing.
After using my simulator the past few years with a firm hitting mat, my elbows started aching and limiting golf. Frustrating that practice led to this. I'm definitely going to give one of these inserts a try. Thanks for the great video!
I went through the exact same issue! I thought it was from Mountain Biking at first. Being the extensive researcher I am, I learned it was the mat and the change eliminated that pain.
Love the vids! My wife just bought me the pre order rapsodo 2 …looking to set up a simulator in home. I love your setup and am going to try it out. Did you get the piping from carls or did you say you built it/got it from Lowes or something? If so, do you have a material list from Lowes/Home Depot?
I didn't get the piping from Carl's - I sourced it locally. Carl's should send an email prior to receiving your shipment that gives you a breakdown of the pipe lengths you need. I got my EMT from Lowes and made the cuts myself but they will likely cut for you, too. Make sure none of the pipes are bent.
Nice review, the main thing is that the mat doesn't kill the wrist and elbows by grabbing the club to much after impact. And great looking setup you have.
Thanks again for the great content. Your build video helped me out a lot! Loved to see you complete in one of the SGT simulator tours. Questions...have you ever taken the launch monitor out to a grass range to see if the launch angle of your seven iron is from similar to the mats?
I have taken to the range with friends a couple time, but we mainly used it to see who hit the longest drive, it was not me😂 I definitely should do this though. However, my buddy who plays near scratch hits here and his 7 iron LA is at 16-17* and you can just see how much lower on the screen his impact is.
Like the content and the review. Going to be setting up my simulator this summer/fall after the additional garage is built. Been researching hitting mats and appreciate your video
How would you recommend cleaning Carl's Impact Screen? Do you have to take it down, or can you clean it with it up? How crucial is it to dry it with a hair dryer after you clean it? Thanks!
I've been watching your videos to help me build a simulator for the past few weeks, I greatly appreciate the content you make, since there isn't much in this space, and hope to have my sim up and running soon!
Just came across your channel and love the content. I'm going to try out your DIY hitting strip. Noticed you have a version 2. Are there major changes or can I go ahead and start ordering materials?
@Golf RnD Thanks bro for the quick response. After trying out the Hotshot mat, would you still play your DIY over it? Hotshot is also out of stock right now.
Love these high quality videos! I’m still at the end of the video right now but if you don’t already answer this in the video. Which of these would you recommend??
Great video as always! I haven't seen many reviews, or thoughts on the Carls hitting mat so this helped a bunch. Thank you for that. I'd love to see a review and your thoughts on the new Rapsodo MLM2Pro once it hits the market. That would be some good content :)
Thanks for reviewing this! Just got a BLP and am having some read issues due to the mat moving around. It was helpful to see you get good results with the BLP on a different surface from the hitting mat. Would love to win this DIY insert to improve my setup!
Great video. I was concerned the divot style hitting insert would affect launch angle/spin. This video proves otherwise putting it up against a standard hitting matt. You're videos are really helpful, thank you.
Great video! With Carl's divot hitting strip being 1.75 inches, how would you build up the floor around it given the gym mat is 1 inch and typically artificial grass is 0.33 inches?
Great video. I'm about to start a sim diy build from Carl's myself and was debating all the mat options they offer. Was very curious how their mat matched up with the others at a higher price point. Carls mat seems pretty nice quality. Thanks alot for the info. Could use that insert lol
Love the content. I am currently in the process of building my own Golf simulator using some of the things you have mentioned on this channel. Keep up the videos and look forward to a review on GSPro.
It does not… The DIY is anywhere from 50-80 usd, depending on size and current material costs. The carls is nice if you aren’t trying to work with an exact size insert or just want one ready to go.
Love your stuff I'm in tge muddle of building a strip like yours. But ill take the Carl's if you want to give it lol. Thanks for always getting back to me with all my questions. I like the diy stuff n product reviews.

As always, great in-depth video. I'm very interested in the Carl's hitting mat and the hitting insert. I have a Country Club Elite mat and I find it very firm. The Carl's hitting i would be plenty for me, Thanks for all you do for us DIY simulator folks. Yes, GS Pro is awesome.
I was obsessed with the Mevo+, but once I got the GC2 the ease of setup and ability to chip accurately swayed me more towards the camera based system. However, I could not recommend the Mevo+ enough at its price! Great device if you have the room, easy to throw in the bag and take to the range and better for switch hitters.
I am currently building a simulator but am uncertain of lighting requirements when using a Mevo plus. Any help would be appreciated. Do I need a specific spot light setup aimed at the ball?
Spotlights are more for camera based launch monitors that read the hall in the first foot or so. With Doppler Radar measuring like Mevo+ it uses as much ball flight as possible, so it would be better to have even light in the room rather than a spotlight.
I really enjoy your content. I have followed you and took a lot from all your video's. I have built my sim with your setup in mind, all the way down to the BirdieBall cups. Thanks for helping me build a great sim!!!

Someone else commented that, never even thought to do that, but definitely will! I can tell when my friends that are low handicap or scratch golfers, that they seem to launch their 7 iron 16-18 degrees and their impact point on the screen is noticeably lower than mine… But, I’m going to take it to the range and try it out!

Dang I was just a little to late to the party. I was looking into Mats because I just got High School golf back at my old school and the head coach. I want to build an area for my players to practice when we can’t go to course. A nice simulation set up. My main obstacle will be the surface they hit off of if I was to put net and stuff in Agility Room and make a mini platform with hitting strip
Great to hear you're bringing golf back to your HS! Happy to answer any questions along the way. You can comment your questions on videos or email us at tailoredmetals@gmail.com
Ease of use and I putt and chip a lot when dealing with back issues and want to hit balls still. The camera based systems never really miss a beat on the soft swings. I also would get frustrated when people came over to play and it would misread putts or miss chips. I ended up having to just switch it to auto putt mode and add mulligans for chips that read way off. Although, I haven’t had a Mevo for almost a year now, I’m sure a lot has changed.
Dude! Your viddies are great and as I have been building my simulator room, you have saved me thousands! I wouldn't mind you continuing to save me $$$ by winning that hitting mat... ⛳🤑😁😎
4:3. Technically 1402x1080. I mounted the projector until it filled the height of my screen and the used the Nvidia graphics card to make a custom size that filled the space exactly, which was 1402.

Great video. I am currently looking for a new mat insert, so this is very timely
Great video. Your content is always helpful. Hope to see more videos 👍🏼
Thanks ... this is great. Thanks for the opportunity =)
That hitting mat just got spot in my shopping list right after Mevo+ pro package
Love the new content. Would love to see me GSPro oriented videos. Even just some “tournament” play with your wife or some buddies.
Great suggestion! Thanks for the support.
What made you upgrade from the mevo
Ease of use and I putt and chip a lot when dealing with back issues and want to hit balls still. The camera based systems never really miss a beat on the soft swings. I also would get frustrated when people came over to play and it would misread putts or miss chips. I ended up having to just switch it to auto putt mode and add mulligans for chips that read way off. Although, I haven’t had a Mevo for almost a year now, I’m sure a lot has changed.
Thanks for the detailed review. very helpful.
This is great! Thanks for all your advice!
Would love to try out the Carl's place insert! Keep up the great videos!
Thanks for the review! Always enjoy your content.
Thanks for the great information! Looking forward to more videos. Cheers!
Good video with data and comparison, thanks!
How far from your screen is your projector?
About 7.5’ to cast a 117x89” image
Good review, appreciate the different comparisons
Great review and great content! Might be looking into getting this mat now!
Great review! Can't wait to set mine up.
Keep it up! Can we get a rapsodo mlm2 pro review?
I’ll have my wife reach out and see if we can demo one!
Play a tournament would be cool to see. Great video
Great video. Just starting my simulator journey
Dude! Your viddies are great and as I have been building my simulator room, you have saved me thousands! I wouldn't mind you continuing to save me $$$ by winning that hitting mat... ⛳🤑😁😎
You have some Good content. I’m curious what is your screen size?
Actual image is 89” high x 117” wide. There’s a video on the channel with a breakdown.
Oh cool. I must have missed one of the videos. So are you running 4:3 or 16:9?
4:3. Technically 1402x1080. I mounted the projector until it filled the height of my screen and the used the Nvidia graphics card to make a custom size that filled the space exactly, which was 1402.
Oh awesome. Thank you for the info!
As always, great content! can’t wait for the next video.
