I always thought the "difference" between a Beast (A.K.A. an animal) and a Monstrosity (A.K.A. a Magical animal, whether altered, enchanted or inherently Magickal like Sorcerers) was superfluous. Like, Beasts are Physical Martials and Physical Ability/Skills users while Monstrosities are Magickal Ability/Skills users. God I hate the presence of a high fantasy's Unatural Force Spell system (which is usually always Magic) and how it makes itself the biggest, most specialist system, either putting it's finger's into every pie or eating other Unatural systems like Psi, destroying it's identity and replacing it with itself/Magic.
Going through the backlog of stuff YT didnt inform me about. Interesting dire animals? Dire sloth. AKA the Giant ground sloth. Is less a sloth and more a giant bear that happens to not be a bear and loves its veggies
The Megalodon is a fascinating “dire” animal. I am not one of those people that likes insanely dangerous beasts - I like small and fluffy creatures mostly - but it’s a mind-boggling organism, and one we know very little about. We do know that it was on average FIFTY TWO FEET LONG and had FIVE rows of teeth! Who needs a kraken? Pft. A rookie monster. Dire sharks FTW.

I'm working on a new homebrew setting and I'm sort of on the fence between two ideas. Either "dire" creatures are roughly twice as large, more aggressive versions of "normal" creatures with the tradeoff being shorter lifespans, which would mean humans are actually dire halflings. Or Humans are essentially the base concept which all the gods worked together to draft, before going their separate ways to make their own races in their images, thus why the creature type is called "humanoid", and why humans don't have any specific special abilities or race specific pantheon. Then at some point the leftovers somehow breached containment and proliferated more than any other god-made race on the material plane. I'm also using that as reasoning for why humans can seemingly crossbreed with pretty much anything. Also I'd like to suggest a video on guard drakes/drakes in general. I'd love to see you're take on more base, animalistic dragon kin.
That isn’t certainly an interesting idea. Although my initial idea for Dire Animals was based in the horns and bone spikes that they were depicted s a having in the books, which was that they were corrupted by Baphomet, sort of transforming into an ultimate form sort of thing, a perversion of their natural forms if you will. PS: I’m sorry if I’m cheating but I would like to suggest both a Hill Giant and the Giganotosaurus.
Jess, I'm so proud of you for being yourself. You are beautiful, I love your hair, and I actually thought to myself, "oh my God she is so pretty!" when I saw you in this video. Then you started talking, and I thought a new hostess had joined the show. I'm a gay man living in rural Idaho, USA right now, which is definitely not the easiest thing, so I get how hard it can be to be true to yourself. You are a beautiful woman, and your voice training is paying off big time. Happy pride, Jess, from a little gay boy in Midwestern USA.
Like the idea of dire animals being animals prehistoric cousins rather than just normal animals magically inflated
This is how I have always looked at 'dire' creatures, prehistoric ancestors from a period where food was scarce.

This thumbnail was mildly threatening and I love it. (Are they dire enough?!! PUNK?! DO THEY FEEL LUCKY?????)

Great job on the video and the drawing Jess! I am really enjoying your new, higher energy style!

Wow, I was just looking for some info on creating an encounter for my 5e party, but got so much more. Thanks for the info!

In Eberron it's extra confusing because there's also magebred animals which are pretty similar! Also loved the lines on the wolf's face
Nice science lesson as well with this, I actually has some misconceptions about them, I thought they were a lot lankier than Modern wolves
