    Hey Dave, just turn on the ACC on your Harley. Jokingly I have told some folks that my UltraClassic has factory AIR. I point to the ACC switch ( which activates the spotlights in the fairing ) and tell them that when the HOG goes over 20 MPH that the cooling compressor kicks in. It has been getting to 40 C ( 104 Fahrenheit ) here in Houston. Back in June 2006, I rode my Ultra to Phoenix to go to the Arizona HOG rally. Talk about riding in a BLAST FURNACE . The road asphalt must have been over 120 degrees. 49 ' C... I learned the value of having frozen bottles of water at the start of a road trip. Deep fried to a crackly crunch in one afternoon. Glad to be alive. Be safe Amigo.

    The mode switch breaking after cleaning reminded me of back when I was in the consumer/commercial repair industry back in the mid '80's. Occasionally the company I worked for would take in warranty jobs for 1960's vintage TV combo sets that had 30 year extended-warranty packages in place and one time I was cleaning the screen color-drive pots of one with modern (for the mid-80's) spray cleaner and the spray came out extremely freezing cold and the plastic shafts of the drive pots shattered from the freezing cold temp of the spray. After that I would only use WD-40 for cleaning ancient pots like those in that set.
    Thanks for sharing, Dave 🙂

    I was given an Emerson VCR/TV combo like this one back in late 2009. At the time I had an Orion TV that was roughly the same size but this was an upgrade cuz it had a VCR in it. Granted I already owned a Magnavox VCR/DVD recorder at the time (still have it, only the DVD recorder works which is why I refuse to get rid of it) but still it was nice to have a spare! To no surprise it ate tapes sometimes but only lightly (luckily I never put in my most sentimental tapes in it which was a wise choice). Then the TV quit working altogether a few years afterwards. Shame cuz it had an amazing picture, great for playing PS2 games on! Oh well, at least I still have the memories, that's all that matters!😁📼👌

      These were really popular at trade shows where demo videos could be left on auto repeat all day. Local video store used one to show a loop of the new releases. Used to fix it for them when it broke as is was running from 9am to 11pm 7 days a week.

    Hi. I know this is a lot to ask for, especially when you won't get anything out of this.
    I've watched you actively for a couple years now, and I've had this idea in my head for a while; I think you should make a (very) "deep dive" style video about some devices. In these videos you wold go through every small detail of the device in question, explaining how everything works, something like "So the sighnal comes over here, then trough X because of Z, hence the Y." I believe you should make these videos specifically about older electronics, like CRTs, old cameras and VCRs, because information about these old technologies can be hard to find. Yes I know that there are thousand of thousands of schematics, magazines, books and even YT videos like yours all over the internet about the subject, but you making even one of these super informative and edjucative videos would make it so much easier for everyone, and even future generations to come to understand these devices on a deeper level. You clearly make all your videos for educative and entertainment purposes, so I think that a video like this would fit your style well. I do fully understand that making a video like the one I'm talking about would be very time- and effort-consuming, but it would be extremely helpful. It is also very possible that I am just simply too dumb to piece these things together on my own(which I've tried to do for these couple of years, and admitedly I've learned a ton, but I cannot understand or know anything anywhere near as well as you do.) and nobody else might have this problem, in which case I'm sorry for wasting your time by making you read this comment. I personally would love to see a video like this specifically about a CRT television. I truly, truly respect you from the bottom of my heart for making these videos at all. Every single one of them is very entertaining, and even more edjucative, and you clearly have an unbelievable amount of information in your head, which you are sharing with us all completely free of cost. Also, I'm Finnish so apologies if the text is hard to read and "stiff", and for any grammatical mistakes. Thank you for even vaguely considering.

      I tried that approach years ago on patreon and there wasn't enough interest for me to continue. It has to make financial sense to do it. If there is no money in it then there is no incentive to do it. For much of this stuff I have completely forgotten the theory on what signal does what. Remember it has been over 20 years since i worked in the business. I put up the Sony betamax training seminar i recorded in 1985. The percentage that actually watch it through would surprise you. Duration is over 2 hours average watch time 4 minutes. I try to keep my videos under 30 min because I know everyone has a short attention span. Average watch is 7 or 8. People ask why my opening logo is 30 seconds well that is because the first 30 seconds don't count. So I do the opening to try to keep people watching for the start of the video. With what i earn from RUclips it is barely enough to keep me interested.

    These CRT TV combos sold in large quantities by the supermarkets back in the early 90's I have repaired a number of them mostly with connection issues or just dead due to cheap capacitors, they give a good performance when fixed.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  11 месяцев назад

      I like them as a quick and dirty way to watch an old VHS tape without having to haul out an old VCR and connect it to the TV. Small enough to just throw in a closet till needed. Just plug in and throw in a tape and the picture quality is about as good as you will get from VHS.
      I actually plan to get the 27" set I have that has the VHS and DVD built in running. They are a rarity these days. Coolest TV I saw at a customers house recently however was the Sony LCD. I believe it was either a 48 or 52" so quite large but it had a built in Bluray player in the side. Now that is something I would own just for the convience of being able to play a disk without having to find a player. I do have a Sony BD player in my system, and I haven't played a disk on it is a while however I do use it to get netflix. I would say that 90% of its life has just been for Netflix and it works flawless for that, and has a better picture than my cable box did when netflix worked on it. I believe my cable box only streamed netflix at 720p and this bluray 1080p as it looks superrior.

      Here is the thing about the jazz greats. They knew how good they were and they also knew that because of improvisation in live performences that no 2 would be performed the same way. So many paid to have their work recorded as did their record companies as there was always that live record or video they would release. For that fans are most greatfull because we have three master performences that will live on forever for future generations to enjoy. I still enjoy the big band era from the 40s that my dad listened to. Miller, dorcy, James, Basie, Goodman.

    Hi. I replaced my 2009 toshiba funai SD-V296 Vcr dvd combo with a 2008 one off of ebay back in Nov-Dec last year and the vcr does work but when it warms up the gear for the right reel the take up reel sticks and the tape comes out and it shuts off and sometimes doesn't even reel the tape back in from the 2 guides. It could be the mode swith or the gears need lubrication to prevent it from seizing up? It does play ok when cooled down.

  • @TheVCRKing

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  11 месяцев назад

      That's because it wasn't a Canadian model. Quebec language laws state that anything sold in Canada has to have french. That's one of the reasons we pay more for things. Some companies like stoufers (nestle) have pulled their frozen foods from Canadian stores because they don't want the added expense of printing dual language packaging. At least that's what my son tells me and he works in the grocery business. They might not publically print that but insiders have a different story.
      Many out here in the west every time Quebec wants to seperate and become a sovereign Nation tell them to go for it but cut all ties including federal transfer payments.

    This is off topic but since you brought it up in the video I have to ask a question about your Harley. Do you have straight pipes installed or do you have factory mufflers on it? Most riders say they need straight pipes so to be as loud as possible to warn automobile drivers they are nearby and look out for them. BS. Also, do you have to rev the engine whenever you come to a stop sign and pull in the clutch? Another reason to make a lot of noise. I rode Goldwings for many years and never had to rev the engine when pulling up to a stop sign.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  11 месяцев назад

      I have factory mufflers. One broke once. Heading to the shop to get it looked at got 176 ticket for noise. Shop needed to order parts so I ride home and passed same cop who wrote me a second ticket. To I took a day off work to fight tickets as I had paperwork to show I had been to shop and they needed to order a clamp. Judge dismissed the second but not the first. So i lost a days wages and still ended up with a 176 noise ticket.
      No I don't have to rev engine at lights except right now because something is broken and it stalls when I let off throttle. Off to the shop i go. Likely throttle position sensor (fuel injected engine)

The monitor will run fine except randomly I'll hear a small "pop" and the picture dies for a spilt second and come back. The other day I just wanted to connect an Atari 2600 to do some quick troubleshooting (i.e., to make sure an issue the Atari was having wasn't related to the TV I normally use it with), and I had to dick around with that ridiculous menu which doesn't even have dedicated/labeled buttons for navigating it, and then after it did its lengthy channel search, I couldn't get to channel 3 because I didn't have the Atari connected to it and turned on while it did its search, so it defaulted to channel 2 and you couldn't change it to any other channel (maybe you could with the remote control, which I don't have). So I had to do that lengthy channel search again with the Atari connected and powered on. With a TV that wasn't designed by buffoons, that bit of troubleshooting should have taken 10 seconds, not 10 minutes.

      If you don't auto search it defaults to all channels. At least this one did. I'm sure the new owner is very happy with it. I sold that set about the same time that the video dropped. Put it on Facebook and had 10 people buf againse each other within minutes. Got a bunch of low-ball offers and a decent one so he ended up with it. Ended up being a guy I went to high school with. Picked it up for his neice whom was getting into VHS and old games so for her perfect. A great way to watch old tapes.

      @@12voltvids Thanks, that's good to know. I still much prefer TVs that allow you to directly input any channel you want rather than only having channel up/down buttons.
      I have a Sears 19" TV made in 1988 (manufactured by Goldstar, later known as LG) that has a keypad on it with all the numbers (0-9), channel up/down buttons, volume up/down buttons, recall, and power on/off, so it's fully functional even without the remote control (it also has pots and buttons for other things such as tint, color, brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc., behind a door below the picture tube), which is good because its original remote disappeared in 1989, several months after we got the TV in late 1988, never to be seen again. The working theory is that my older sister's mutt ate it, just like he ate Dad's new fishing pole.
