    I think to prevent concrete from staining the threads wrap them up with painters tape or cellophane. It would save time and energy

      Appreciate video content! Apologies for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Mahorrla Wooden Paradise Method (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a smashing one off product for building better sheds and woodworking without the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got amazing results with it.

    NARF! Hi, how come you always put the bolts on the edge of the top of the pier? It just bothers me.. i'd think the center would be nicer. 2nd question.. What manufacturer do you use? Although seems like they mis ship/build a lot of things, that you have to fix. I'm in Buffalo NY, so I'm considering one that will be better suited to snow load. Do the manufacturers give you some sort of plate to set those bolts in the concrete? How exactly do you measure them all out? I would think this is one of the most important parts. Thanks for all the metal videos! these are the first i've ever seen and they're inspiring. Most people around here use wood, and they also try to use the amish. It looks like the metal goes together even easier than wood, so I'm interested in seeing if that works better for me. Trying to be cost effective, as I'd like to build many, to create a whole industrial park. Where are you located?! Thanks, Greg

      Thanks for inspiring message.
      Yes the column would probably be better in the middle of the pier. But when you enclose the building later then the pier would be outside the steel line . This way the concrete is inside your building. The manufacture in most of my videos is proned to a lot of mishaps. Welcome to construction. We contractors deal with this all the time and it's our job to figure it out. This is why I like to provide my own materials when I can. I now manufacture my own buildings to try and beat this problem but I'm also human and short materials or make mistakes in orders or quantities. I'm located in GA. I can have a building shipped with the specs you need
      Email me at Roofover556@yahoo.com and I can get u an estimate.
      Anchor bolt plans are provided for placement of the bolts.

      @BuildingwithNARF thanks for the reply! Yes I realize the concrete would be outside the metal line but I figured some rain wouldn't hurt it. Or just cover it in dirt... Thinking more now... I guess you wouldn't want to just cover the outside in dirt... would probably be nasty and bring water in to rust the bolts. Curious how you keep the water away. I will email you to shoe you what I need thanks. Greg

    I like the project your working on and maybe you can help me out. I want to build concrete piers to mount some steel to support a 16'x32' cabin 8 or 9 ft off the ground. What would be some materials I could use. I can get some 6"pipe and 6x6 inch tube both 1/4 wall. I was thinking on using 8 post but looking for opinions out here.

    Is there an advantage to bolting columns individually and then lifting the assembled rafter in between columns or could you assemble columns and rafter all together and just lift the hole thing? Thanks!

    • @BuildingwithNARF
      @BuildingwithNARF  3 года назад +1

      Yes, it is easier to connect in the air and keep square, level and plumb. Also the rafters will twist and warp with the weight of columns attached while lifting. The columns are usually heavier than the rafter.

    I'm curious why you wouldn't show how you leveled out all your footings? Determining the difference of elevation for each footing is needed when erecting a structure of this size and weight. Your footings didn't appear to be straight.

    • @BuildingwithNARF
      @BuildingwithNARF  3 года назад +1

      All piers were elevated to the same height on each side.
      There is 15" difference of height from front piers to back piers. I have another video of " pier setup for steel building addition" showing how we elevate the piers with the laser to the height needed.

    How deep are the pier holes? Also do you think a pier foundation like this would work for an enclosed 39x57 building with a gravel floor. Great video, thanks!

    • @BuildingwithNARF
      @BuildingwithNARF  4 года назад +2

      Piers are determined by soil types and building size. Where we built this shelter I used a yard of concrete per pier. The building size you mentioned would work on a pier foundation. First consult with an engineer or builder familiar with your area, soil types and design of building to determine what would be sufficient. Meaning...what size are your spans, load bearings, and materials being used to support your structure.

      There is alot of variables that decide the price of a slab. On average the cost will run $6-$9 sqft for concrete in my area.
      Engineered slabs will require more steel, beams, piers,etc. Site work will also determine cost and finally the dirt pad. Cost varies per job.
