These are great and are pretty much flawless but since you need a lot of them the price is gonna be the real deciding factor for me and I’d assume most people
Rybonator agreed, it will all depend on the price of the magnets. If the tiles are injection moulded like you said then the plastic will not be much so the pricing can be reasonable!
@@tatjanafelde8415 If price is the main factor then i doubt buying a 3d printer and all of the plastic for it would be very cost effective. They also have to be magnetic which is either an expensive filament or extra work.
Table top simulator on steam, 1 time payment, play online with friends, and the entire heroscape collection. Pros: Cheaper overall Cons: not physical pieces
The original Rise of the Valkyrie master set sold for about $20 - which is the same price these costs for a tube of 25 hexes in one color. That master set has 85 tiles in it, but since many of those tiles are more than one hex, you actually get about 350 hexes and in multiple colors (grass, rock, sand, and water). Because the game is out of print, those master sets now sell for a stupid amount of money, but if you're looking to do epic HeroScape - you're actually *still* better off buying old master sets at their expensive value. You need 14 sets of these magnet tiles to get the amount of hexes you get in one RotV master set. Even with the discounts you get for buying a ton of sets in the Kickstarter - that's over $200 to get the same number of tiles and you can probably find old master sets for less than $100 if you look around.
This reminds me of the Heroscape system, but improved. I wonder how well they'd blend with those tiles? Either way, I'm definitely going to back this if they aren't too expensive.
No beginning puns = paid promotion / sponsorship Beginning puns = OG content, right? I like that actually. Man oh man those tiles are beautiful and functional and functionally beautiful! I dread to know how much the shipping is gonna cost, cause lately all the stuff to Mexico has increased a toooooon, twice from the US and almost thrice from Japan
I try to not do puns on content that I think people who have no interest in my channel, just reviews might watch. Because they would possibly be turned off on the review by intro puns haha :) I know when I watch reviews, I JUST WANNA SEE THE PRODUCT, NOT YOUR LIFE STORY! :P If the price is right, they have really got an incredible product on their hands :)
Hex maps are not my go to, but these look pretty dang awesome. I'll have to check out what sort of price these things end up going for. Any idea how firmly the magnets will hold everything together if you decide to prebuild something specific?
You wouldn't be able to pick up a flat map without something underneath it, as they would just crumble in on themselves, but overall if you are leaving it on a table or other surface, they are pretty well held :)
From the looks of things, if you don't build so big that it becomes too heavy, a big sheet of cardboard should do the trick just fine. Otherwise, maybe try plywood?
That's awesome, I really like the idea of having the player create the layout for the map while the DM gets the next battle ready. If i played Pathfinder in person this would be a really sweet thing to have.
I've never played any of these table top games, but I used to try and build battle scenes with legos when I was younger. I might have to get some of these for the hell of it once they're being injection molded.
Oh yes you could make them even cooler with painting on details. Like individual grass strokes. And you can paint both sides slightly different. For example have flowers on the gras on one side. I hope they won't be to expensive. You will probably need a lot.
Good question! Since it's 3D printed material right now, it should be very well. And on the production version it will be normal plastic. So if you prime them, you should have no issues
im ALREADY thinking about the stuff people used to do customizing heroscape tiles, and honestly because these dont have the dirt borders those did? it might be even easier!
That is really cool! If I was still into D&D and Rifts I would get that. Back almost 30 years ago, I did not even know there was miniatures for those games so we just used our imaginations. I would have loved something like this back then. Even when playing 40k, that would have been awesome.
As a heroscape fan these terragon magnetic hexes look really appealing. I think the biggest factor will be the price. I also reckon these will be less likely to break when pulling apart compared to heroscape's interlocking plastic hexes. Where did you get those cool looking village hut things from?
Base price is $20 per tube of 25 hexes. You get terrain stuff at the $160 level of the Kickstarter - that comes with 10 packs of 25 and three "scatter" sets (that's what they call their rocks and trees and stuff). The sad thing is, I think you can actually get more Heroscape hexes for less even with how expensive they are now. Plus, these magnetic tiles are significantly thinner than Heroscape tiles - they look closer to water tile thickness.
I have made stuff like that out of wood for months now and it is a pain in the ass. So i will happily support, and buy some as long as the prize is reasonable.
I have printed a lot of Dragon-lock tiles, and really like using them. I plan to make them all magnetic as well. At first looking at these I was not interested at all. However seeing you add your terrain into the mix, has really made me give it a second thought. When player's decide to literally go off the map, just throw a bunch of these out there. Like when they are in a cavern walking along a ledge, then decide they want to throw a rope down, and explore every little crevice. I usually just back stl Kickstarter's but I think a decent batch of these would really come in handy now. I hope the price makes these just as useful.
A possible suggestion for a future video? I recently discovered the ancient Royal Game of Ur and instead of buying a game, I want to build it. What I would like to learn is, how to pour the four, D4 dice needed with no numbers BUT....with two white(or off-color)corners. Yea, I could paint the corners but well...you know. lol It would be awesome to be able to pour the corners , then the rest in a 'nail polish color' called ''Vamp'', which has a red base with a thin black overcoat, so the red 'bleeds' through like an under-painting and then two bright red corner tips on each one. Thanks for any help and keep up the good work with the awesome videos!
These seem really cool! Only real downside is switching from a grid movement system to a hex for games like 5e or Pathfinder, but if the group is cool with that then this could be a game changer
Wow what a brilliant idea. Love the way you can create depth in your terrain by stacking and they really look good. Now the real question is the price. As you stated, to make EPIC maps you'll need thousands of them, so how much is key to their sales (and us buying them). Hopefully they will understand its better to sell millions of something at 20% profit than hundreds of something at 75% profit. We will see. Love the vid by the way Rybo :)
Sounds like for your needs, they should have some taller tiles as well. If they make them in different increments of height then you would need fewer pieces to make your map. Maybe available in 1x, 2x, 5x, and 10x. You could get up to 40x height with just 4 tiles. And can make most of the sizes below with 5 or 6 tiles. Storage would be an issue I would expect.
This looks very interesting. Also, these shouldn't be fully 1 tile the same color on each side. For instance, those dirt/rock colored ones need grass on top like a minecraft dirt block with grass. Flip em any which way you like. River ones could have a side with partly dirt for coastlines, etc. Followed the project on kickstarter anyhow, hope they're cheap enough to buy in the large quantities you'll need to build larger scenes.
What it definitely needs is a lot of meta-pieces for larger open areas and for taller terrain. Individual pieces are great for detail, but I could put together a map in 2 minutes if I had some larger bits and bobs.
I'm a big time hex enthusiast, so I'm definitely interested in these! I've 3d printed some square dungeon tiles and I love them, but I'm not sure how many I want to make. If the price is right on these I'm definitely in!

So the large bases are Barely bigger than the hex, do they sit between 3 hexes pretty easily. Once you get huge or larger, just like regular dnd, it's more difficult
Oh hell yeah I would use a modular system like this and there's actually two or three different ways that I can see it being used the only problem is like you said you'd have to just buy and buy and buy but one of the things that I would just love to do with this is just take a few pieces and actually build terrain onto them you know like take one of the green ones and put some grasslands on it and just do that with a few of them that way you know you have some difficult terrain for people to go through and you know on some of the white ones you can either have like rocks or stones or you can even use it as a snow cap and just put some snow train on it and just make it like you know a random square or two of difficult terrain you maybe it's like a slope that goes down but it's just completely coated and snow so when you walk on it it just goes up to your waist and snow so it's difficult to rain

I think they should also sell pieces that are tall as 2, 3, 4 or even 5 of these stacked together, it could help with making more 3D terrain.
wow, what a unique product! I didn’t see anything like that before, and they look amazing. If only they had a bit more detail... awesome though
reminds me of heroscape, really dig it
Strange. I made something exactly like that from wood using CNC machine few years ago for my tabletop gaming needs. Should have opened a Kickstarter.
This is a real game changer!
I know what is on my Christmas list now
"the problem is I want more of these" is basically me with food at all points of the day
That's pretty metal and a very attractive offer!
Glad you like them :)
Damn these loom really cool. I'd really want that if I wasn't playing on VTT due to distance with my players.
i have this homebrewed war game that i've been begging to play with my friend... if i get these then i might be able to actually playtest it
Was that a YuGiOh Mini thrown in there around 5 minutes?
Another thing to add to my wishlist
I'm not sure how large and huge bases (in terms of 5e) would work on hexagons
So the large bases are Barely bigger than the hex, do they sit between 3 hexes pretty easily. Once you get huge or larger, just like regular dnd, it's more difficult
That loooks soo cooool
I dont even have minis (my group just uses the units from Risk) but I desperately want this.... time to make minis i guess!
Those are pretty awesome. But I think I’d need the official release to have some texture and color variation. I’m not a big fan of how blank they look
I’m also a bit worried about the price, as I do think you’ll need a hundred or so to be satisfied.
Hey master, how about magnetic field on Electronic devices? I painted my tiles and board for my DIY boardgames with magnetic paint and my Phone and mobile speaker go nuts!
Looks just like the Heroscape gameboards
It totally does!
now this is epic
No u :)
@@Rybonator :)
I would use this even just for displays.
