    The disclaimer that this is not FDA "approved" is a huge plus especially considering they approved all those harmful chemicals to be put in our food...will be doing this soon :)

    I've been doing this for years, like my grandma did. The first time I did it, after getting married, my husband freaked out .... lol. Anywho, I've only done quick breads and dessert type things. I used to make single serving ones in the 4 oz regular mouth (smooth walled) & the 8 oz Kerr wide mouth ( these are GREAT for single serving pineapple upside down cake). Side note....we're eating canned Boston brown bread, banana bread & pineapple upside down cake that was canned in '20! I'm not recommending that just saying that ours is still useable without 'adverse side effects'. Thank you for sharing! SO many people won't can these or even eat these bc the process isn't F......D......A approved.

    What a great idea!
    As in every mason jar canning method for other things, that great seal is caused by the vacuum created when the hot jar cools to room temperature.
    BTW, when some idiot asked the Amish why they didn't get COVID, the reply was "We don't watch TV."

    Love the videos. I've done this with Boston Brown Bread, in the past (before the Diabetes Fairy made a surprise visit...LOL). A little trick, turn the oven off, and with the door open, take the jars out one at a time and put on the rings and lids. There will be no problem with them cooling down too quick and the door being open will let most of the heat escape, keeping them from over cooking. I guess I am going to have to make a batch of BBB, just be stingy on how much I have at once (though it is sooooooo good, it is difficult not to eat it all .... hahahahahaha).

  • @lauraweiss7875
    @lauraweiss7875 25 дней назад +3

    The reason this is a slightly risky technique (and I do mean slightly) is because even though the bread is heated to the “sterile” point and the lid vacuum seals itself when it cools, the remaining air that is trapped in there may have mold spores or bacteria that can grow while it’s on the shelf. Again, you’ll be fine most of the time, but it’s not foolproof. Freezing and vacuum bag sealing probably a better technique, but not everyone has the freezer space.

      You can often make baked goods more moist by adding a couple of tablespoons of sour cream to the batter. I make cornbread that my Grandmother and Mom made. I am 75 and still making it. It is so easy. 1 cup flour, 1 cup cornmeal, 1 Tablespoon baking powder, 1 Teaspoon salt, 1 Tablespoon sugar or you can use more if you like it sweet. 2 Tablespoons oil, 1 egg. Just throw it all into a bowl and mix it up. I use a cast iron skillet with a little oil in it to bake in and it comes out with a very nice crust. I buy Azure Standard's corn flour and it makes the most delicious cornbread. Hope this helps.

    Wow! Never even heard about this before! So great! Question: I like to put pecans in my banana bread. Do you think it would be ok to put nuts in the bread???

      I have heard no nuts so I haven’t tried. I think it would be alright if you were eating it within a shorter period of time. But I do thing the nuts would reduce the self life so if you put them, eat them within a few weeks and don’t leave them on the shelf for months at a time

    A lady in our canning group has been pressure canning breads/ cakes. She processes for 30 minutes with great success. This should extend the shelf life, pretty much indefinitely. I don’t like pc’ing so I’m going to try this same thing using a WB.
