Betty Carter was accompanied by a trio with Cyrus A. Chestnut, Jon Roland Ariel and Clarence l. Penn. Betty Carter denied heating up the public with lurid and popular standards or phrases, instead, she celebrated great singing artistry in her unmistakable artistic profile. - Видеоклипы
I'm so partial to artists that would do weekend gigs at our humble NJ club. Betty Carter performed with perfection to our audience of 100 as she did here in Munich. She was a monster talent, and so under appreciated. Her timing and intonation was absolutely perfect.
Sad but true, she was SO underappreciated!
Absolutely
I agree 100%
Now we all know what stage presence is all about: the great Betty Carter!
Definitely!!!
This is just so refreshing for me. I first heard Ms, Betty Carter on the Cosby Show as a kid and I was hooked.
Now that you mentioned the Cosby show. I do recall. So refreshing is right! Got get her music into my jazz collection!
Piano player is a beast!!!! Wow!!!!!!!!
This wonderful legend always blows my mind!! The way she scats right through the change of timing! Just amazing!! ❤❤❤❤
Upright bass is outstanding !! All in all the best .
If an abstract painting had a voice, it would be Betty Carter's. Each note is a falling leaf. The voice as an element depicting color, tone, and mood. I agree with the poster that to fully understand and appreciate Betty Carter, it was necessary to see her perform.
4 MASTERS so sadly forgotten by many but ah so perfect
And the band, omg, just too much my heart almost can't take it!
i just wanna melt into what is listening to Ms. Betty Carter. Her band is wonderfully out of this universe as well. I feel so seen and heard from decades away
All four gave Autumn Leaves a whole new meaning!! However, I’ve heard of Betty Carter, seen her music, and kept strumming over her music. On this day, 11/19/22 I can now say know who Betty Carter is!!! A magnificent singer & a diamond in the rough!! No fault of mine. Meaning, I didn’t see enough about her like other female jazz singers. After reading poster’s statements on how underrated she was. Why?? With a voice like that and her scatting delivery, she should have been just as popular as, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and many other popular female jazz singers! Believe it or not listening to this jazz session jam, these gentlemen brought tears to my eyes! Their playing was phenomenal to say the least! Leading up for Betty’s entrance. All I can say, I was blown away!! The search is on for some Betty Carter music for my jazz collection!! Long winded I know, but I’m just flabbergasted! Betty Carter rocks!❤️🌹
Truth wins in the end❤you comment is right!
The Autumn leaves of black and blue
Great music in every respect. I studied with Cyrus at Berklee, he was already great at 18-years of age. Betty is Best!
Wait Cyrus was only 18 here? Damn.
I think you're off by 10 years.
When I was about 37-38 yrs old I went to see her at the Blue Note in Greenwich Village. I'm 63 now. I'd never heard her music I'd only heard of her. It was amazing. I was at the foot of the platform she was on which was level to my seat. Afterward I went to her dressing rm. uninvited where she welcomed me in. & let me take pictures!!
I saw her there too in my 20's, also at Village Vanguard & High School of Performance Arts, I'm 62, my ex later told me years she hated going to see Ms Carter 😒 hurt me to my ❤ 🤣
what a beautiful report , you are blessed _ _ greatly .
I’m
She’s so classy and wonderful. I love Ms. Carter.
Classic!!!! Hats off to Betty Carter and the awesome trio, esp. drummer Penn. Excellent!!!
Agree..He's articulate ,from Betty's side./
Great job 👏 Cyrus and the gang!!!
Scatin' at its finest. Only ONE Betty Carter.
What do U say ? The Great Betty Carter & her Trio Awesome Performance. SOLID!!!
Clarence Penn.... okay, I have no other words, let me deep dive :) Thank you for posting!
these guys are great!!!
Betty's scatting is so wonderful and musical, never like anyone else's -- she just makes my heart fly!
Fascinante Betty Carter! L'essence du jazz vocal, ni plus ni moins.
Four folk doing what the did best, play wonderful music
The bassist is Curtis Lundy. In addition to that excellent playing is his signature cravat!
Absolutely correct!! I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him a few years ago at the Melton Mustafa Jazz Festival in Miami. Wonderful musician and person!
That's what I thought.
Hypnotic!!!
good group! Cyrus chestnut is a polished technician with richness and variety and Carter can really do the scat singing thing.
Damn ! ,,,, Sooo good !..
A masterclass in Scat !
And improvisation she was a vocal genius
formidable!!!!
She was brilliant
The "purest" jazz singer that ever lived.
Carmen McRae stated in an interview that Betty Carter was the only REAL jazz singer around at the time of the interview
How wonderful the way she scats in the transition change of timing so efficiently without effort!! So wonderful!!
This is bananas!! And probably my favorite pianist here, a young Cyrus Chestnut.
Interesting! Probably my fave pianist, Marc Cary, came up thru the School of Betty. Love Cyrus Chestnut also, of course.
superbe!!!
Magique!!!
Mrs. Cyrus is a giant!
One of the best ❤
The Bassist is Cutis Lundy--should be changed to give the cat credit for this performance. It's almost like he was like Ms. Carter's rhythm section foundation for decades.
I knew that Curtis on bass at first sight, I saw him playing with Ms Be Bop Carter in NY back in early 80's
I peeped that right away too
That's right and let's remember here too his sister's presence : the great Carmen Lundy . Check her out !
Clarence Penn stunning on the solo
Gone Betty!!! Scat that song with your bad self!!😂😂😂
Amen
Betty also toured with a young bassist named Ariel Roland (aka Ari Roland), but this is Curtis Lundy.
Time is relative. I felt like this song is like a regular 5 minutes pop songs. Surprised that it is 18+ minutes song.
intemporeile Betty !
Cyrus one talented swinging dude
serious goosebumps
Saludos del Pianista Javier Donado desde barranquilla, Colombia
Great job on all aspects 🔥
Stunning on all counts!
Love this! ✨😍🥰🥰
genial!!!!
massa fina!!!
❤️❤️❤️
Divina!!!!
In love................... Yes!
Me too!
Hey LOFT Music..... That's Curtis Lundy on Bass, NOT Jon Roland Ariel. Betty even announces his name. I would know because ALL of these musicians have also played with me. Just thought you might want to know. I'm in Munich NOW.
Madó che leggenda
massa!!!
Brilliant trio!!!
Who are the guys in trio? I don’t know their name names
CD,Tape,Record??????? NO!NO!NO!.....You must WATCH Betty!
❤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
😍
Curtis Lundy on bass
Betty , had to be and is "The Coolest Lady in Music". -"The Songstress of Time" No,buddy could touch Her
Please tell me the drummer's name. ... and how is he not the example for all drummers? ! :)
She herself said Curtis Lundy on bass
NOT Jon Roland Ariel - bass. It's Curtis Lundy
Where in Malaysia, I can visit jazz music venue like this?
Excellent but i don’t recognize the theme…
Betty would perform every year in Greater Boston/Cambridge and recruit the best young musicians coming out of Berklee School of Music to be her trios. They would work with her for several years, move on and she would recruit a new trio.
Curtis Lundy is on the bass.
Super. Da freue ich mich. Vielen Dank für die nette Antwort.
You should not have to “Overstate , oversell this offer. Sounds like a good scam approach to me🙁
This is not Autumn Leaves. I mean it's great and all, but it ain't that song not even the same chords lol
Nick: where's your ears?
@@yvonnelaurenty6427 Fundamentally different chord sequence (+not the melody or lyrics obvs)
@@nickshankland listen to it closely, the melody is there, you just have to keep a open ear for these types of more improvisatory versions of jazz standards
Improvisation! Betty and the trio put their twist on Autumn Leaves. Wasn’t played the traditional, singing way. Scatting was the lyrics. That’s jazz!
Juste après le solo de batterie, une mesure, c'est bien Autumn Leaves...
