I wear a size 9/9.5 in women & size 7.5/8 in men. After extensive research, I opted to purchase a pair of Lolly’s (Barbie Pink, size 8) vs Rainbow Riders or Beach Bunny’s. EVERYTHING you mention is absolutely TRUE! When first unboxing, the skates were indeed TIGHT but I used the Tennis Ball trick in between uses to help expand the toe box. I’ve had them now for about two months and I can definitely tell that the skates have stretched slightly and feel so much better 🎉 continuing on my skating journey I love my skates and so happy I chose Moxi

I wear 7.5 women's shoes and have Lollies in size 6. When I first got them, the supports on the bottom sides were digging into my foot bones. How I broke them in was I used a hair dryer and used a ball and applied LOTS of pressure, over and over, on the sides. After about 3 weeks of dedication and some pain, they finally broke in, and now I just LOVE them, I would never trade them for anything in the world! 😍

I wear a woman’s size 9. I too have bunion issues, but just under my left big toe. I have both a pair of Beach Bunnies and 2 pairs of Lolli’s. All 3 I have are a size 8. The 8’s fit perfect, but I do have a little extra room in the toe box. My family owns a clothing and shoe store. I am kicking myself for getting rid of my antique shoe stretcher. I grew up knowing how to size men’s and women’s shoes not skates. So I took a stab at the ordering my normal size in men’s and they fit PERFECTLY! So if there are any women with size 9 and their feet are a little wide, an 8 should be fine for you. Thank you Karli! Your the best!

One thing to your bunion situation: what might be a good solution for you, are toe spacers for ballerina. I use to wear those and it helped me extremely to prevent it getting worse over time. Maybe that’s something you could try. I had to wear half a size bigger in some models.

I received my first ever moxi skates today, the pink Barbie ones. I love them :) I’m so nervous about getting started because I’ve never roller skated before. I’m a size 6.5 in vans and converse but the customer service rep I spoke to told me to get a size 5. They fit great :D

    • @caseyholt1822
      @caseyholt1822 7 месяцев назад

Don’t be nervous! Just wear protective gear :) with padding and helmets and learning to fall you will be good 👍🏼 😊 I would highly recommend that you check out RUclips videos on how to fall before you go, and put the skates on at home and stand on either grass or carpet just to start to get used to them and work a little on balance.
I’ve been skating for 3-4 years now, I’m approaching intermediate, I can skate backwards, I can jump on skates, etc. but I still wear wrist guards and knee pads every single time I skate. Wrist guards are absolutely vital, wrists break all the time and you’ll see idiots who go without but no matter how good you are, unless you are a truly advanced skater and you’re skating indoors at the rink, you can ALWAYS break a wrist, even if it’s not your fault, a kid jumps in front of you, someone smashed into you from behind, a bearing breaks mid-skate, there’s some small thing on the floor that gets under your wheel, etc. you could fall and it’s just not worth risking injury. Wear wrist guards well into your skating career, even indoors!
Knee pads are the second most vital piece of gear for me, I would never have been able to push myself and advance as much as I have without them. I have fallen literally thousands of times and I almost never get hurt. As long as I’m able to get at least one knee even halfway on the pad before anything else, I’m good. I won’t be hurt at ALL. They make my fear and nervousness (of actual physical danger, I still get social anxiety lol) non-existent.
I would recommend you get a helmet as well if you want one. It’s not necessary, as long as you’re planning to skate indoors. If you’re going outdoors as a new skater though, you definitely need one. Make sure it’s specifically a SKATE helmet, not a bike helmet, as they cover different areas (i.e. the skate helmet extends further down the back of the head) and are made of different materials and are just totally different all around because they need to be. You’re not going to be flying over the handlebars and catapulted a long ways on skates. You’ll go down and go down hard, so you need the SKATE helmet. I never wore a helmet when I was starting out because I didn’t dare venture outdoors. I actually only got mine last year when I wanted to start learning backwards skating, which made me afraid (for good reason) of falling backward and hitting my head. Luckily because I learned how to fall before anything else, I’ve never really fallen backwards before I started learning backward skating, but with it, you inevitably fall backwards. Now I no longer need it for indoor backwards skating, but I still wear it for outdoor backward skating. If you’re nervous though, it could help you to feel more secure when you’re just starting out, and you can use it throughout your skating career for the things I’ve mentioned.
They even make butt pads! It’s basically a pair of shorts that has padding all over the butt area. When I was first learning, before I had mastered the art of falling, I took a hard backward fall one day and really bruised my tailbone badly. It hurt so much that I thought I had broken it and ended up going to the ER. Luckily it wasn’t, but if I had had the butt pad on during that fall, I don’t think it would’ve been so bad and I wouldn’t have gone to the hospital. I ordered it after that fall, and I only wore it a couple times after that, but it helped me feel less nervous about getting back on skates after that incident. You can wear it under a flowy dress or skirt to make it kinda something only you know you’re wearing if you’re not too keen on people knowing you’re wearing it.
Elbow pads: they’re not really important. I will wear them if I’m outdoors and practicing something new, because I’ve gotten a couple elbow scrapes outside when pushing myself before without them on, but other than that I have never once worn them. They literally look brand new; I keep them in a totally separate place in the house because I almost never use them. Again, though, you can wear them when you’re first starting out if it makes you feel better, and if you start out learning outside, definitely do wear them.
      Have fun!!

I think they’re probably referring to the fact that Impala skates are well known for having dangerous issues with the trucks, wheels, and/or the heels. While Impala skates can be a solid choice for a brand new beginner skater, just dipping their toe in the water and seeing if they’re going to stick with the hobby, they are not a good brand and they have real issues with their quality control. Obviously brand new skaters don’t know anything about skating when they first start, and that’s totally okay!
When I got my first pair of skates, it was from Angel Skates, which is an even worse brand than Impala. They cost the same, but they have a worse reputation. I was able to skate for ~4 years on those skates- the first 2.5 years I just skated here and there, once a month or so. The last 1.5 years I got a lot more serious about the hobby, learned that my skates were super cheap and poor quality, and started checking them for safety before every session. I broke a bearing at around 2.5 years in (I had no idea you had to clean your bearings, so I had never done so!) which prompted me to learn all about skate anatomy and I bought tools and stuff to clean my bearings. They finally died when I started working on transitions (turning from forward to backward or backward to forward) and the boot ripped a huge tear in it.
It’s a natural part of learning anything new to start out not knowing anything about that thing and learn naturally as we go. I’m still only an intermediate skater myself, committed to make it my bitch this year though! Good luck and have fun with your Impalas, just make sure you’re doing safety checks on them regularly, preferably before or after every single skating session. I’m sure you can find some videos/reddit posts on how to check your skates for safety- learning skate anatomy would be a good place to start, so you can know what everything SHOULD look/feel/sound like and then you can check that it does.
      Happy skating!

I usually wear size 9 skates! My size 9 suede sure grip skates fit me perfectly :) I got size 9 rainbow riders and they feel just slightly roomy. I think an 8 or 8.5 would have been perfect! But I was planning on getting an insole anyway, so I think I'm going to keep them as is :)

I'm happy the same size and yeap feels a little big in the box, what kinda of insert are you going to try?
Every time I buy insoles they end up making the shoe fit too tight.

Thank you for this video! I was a little concerned that my brand new skates were too small but I believe I only need to break them in. My previous pair was a different style with a sneaker shoe and I was constantly having cramps and crunching my toes so I believe they are too big for me.

I measured my feet and they are about 220mm. I bought the Lollys in a size 4 and they are pretty snug. At First, i really thought I Need to go a size up, but I decided to just wear them for an hour and then decide. After this hour, my feet already felt a lot better. To this point, i think i skated in them for about 3-4h. I can really feel that the skates get more and more comfortable from minute to minute. I love them and i am happy I didnt return them. :)

My feet are wider than normal and I think my right foot is a touch bigger because they seem to hurt a lot more? My beach bunnies are slightly snug on the sides of the feet as well. I love they feel tho!

Im a size 9 (on the wider side) typically. My feet have gotten bigger from backpacking, so I have just accepted that I'm not a size 8.5 anymore.
I picked a size 8 lolly. Fit amazing. I notice my feet go numb, but that's because I clench my toes when I skate.
I have two pairs of Jacks coming in size 9 eventually, but I imagine with my wider feet, I'll have to break them in longer.

I'm new to skating, but I just got some lollies (classic) and I'm. A size 9 womens in vans hightops. My lollies are an 8 and they're tight in the toes but im not curling up. And my foot doesn't shift. I can really tighten up my laces and the toes will go numb, but thats with having a toe guard laced in adding some extra pressure. Out of the box they were fairly comfortable. I'm also 335lbs, and have large ankles, I needed 120cm laces instead of the out of the box laces.
