The variable groove pitch maintains excellent sound on this 4 1/2 minute, 10 inch 78 side. Haefliger's voice was well suited to this aria and he got excellent support from Fricsay and the RIAS orchestra.
An interesting singer with a distinctive voice, the peculiarity of which puts him a little close to Karl Erb and Julius Patzak, although it‘s lighter and brighter than theirs. I like the bright, cool freshness, a welcomed contrast to the warm, honey-toned, or the powerful, sunny and radiant tenor voices, which of course I also love very much! Who wouldn‘t…?
A very pleasant and convincing performance; imo the steersman seems to be a perfect role for Haefliger, his portrayal goes in the direction of a cool, self-controlled (well-tamed) viking who sets off purposefully on his way home and is not deterred by anything.
Very well done! ✨✨✨
Thank you for the very rewarding post! 🙏🍀
