The 323 makes all sorts of wonderful noises. i love that wonderful PSSHHHH......psh psh psh psh psh psh just before it pulls away, followed by that subtle whistle as it starts to move. Once you hear it it's the cutest sound ever. Riding in the end carriages you get the epic GTO Thyristor sounds but ride in the middle carriage and you hear the sweet sounds of the compressors kicking in every few minutes. Love it! I used to do a 30 minute commute in them twice a day every day.
I read somewhere that they actually got changed to IGBTs from their original GTO thyristors some time ago, but in a way such that they still have their distinctive "purr" (not qualified enough to explain the reasoning without butchering it!)
This sounds just like EA102 series EMU in Indonesia, both had the same traction motor (DMKT 52/24) and GTO-VVVF. Sadly due to spare parts shortage and frequent breakdowns, these EMUs had to be converted into DMUs, converted into air-conditioned EMUs but with entirely different traction system or simply scrapped.
These use Alstom IGBT based inverters now, but Alstom programmed them to function exactly as the original Holec GTO thyristor based equipment did to save them having to recertify the traction equipment as Hitachi would have done with the 465/0s.
The motor drives work by pulsing thyristors to create the frequency the motors need at the speed they are turning. The thyristors can only pulse so fast, so as the motor speed increases, the pulsing pattern has to switch to keep the pulsing rate within limits. See this: watch?v=VOm8ePMg1dE
Nice film, at least you have opening windows on these units, as opposed to cheap nasty air con which is not maintained properly and spreads germs everywhere.
Traction equipment for these trains are also by Holec. The inverters however have been modified or replaced by Alstom (transistors changed from GTOs to IGBTs), but the sound is the same.
is it just me or the sound remind me of VIRM in the netherlands
MARIO SONIC The 323 sounds more similar to the IRM with HOLEC made traction motors (same company as the 323) rather than the alstom motors on the VIRM
Julie Green true
Yea because it’s electric the motor is collecting electric from the pantograph.
@@crownjulesgaming542 VIRMm doesn't use thyristors. It uses a modern VFD
Ryan it used to before the motors were swapped

I wish Scotland had these units
man those GTO inverters sound so good
465 or 365 on crack
Haha, the chap at the end who just misses his train! 😂😂
Love these units. Also 298 seats in a 3 car set!
That's a really weird sound from the 323 and I love it.
That sound ♦️
It reminds me of the 96 stock motors of London Underground (Jubilee Line)
That Nice Sound Of It Departing...
Ah the F1 sounding train? Nice :).
I ridden this train today from Birmingham New Street to Bournville
The first time I ridden this class was Birmingham New Street to Wolverhampton
Fascinating sounds
Cool I love these
i used to get these trains from selly oak to the city center every day
this train sounds like your average subway
It's not the traction motors that make the noise it's the GTO (Gate Turn Off) Thyristors in the motor control circuits.

@@fetchstixRHD Yes they did, Alstom replaced the inverters but programmed the new ones to function as the old ones did.

Maksudnya EA101? ITU BN-HOLEC Namanya!!!!!

3:38 best sound for asmr
They looked so much better in the London Midland livery.
A Mitsubishi-Based GTO-VVVF Inventers...
You mean 209系
These are Alstom IGBT now, formerly Holec GTO
Sounds like JR 209 Series
British and Japanese trains are so similar.
In terms of how they are operated yes. But I'm more interested in the motor inverters than the trains themselves.
KRL BN-Holec (1994-2013)
That really is such a strange sound. Definately not as good as the class 365 though, that is a classic!
We had 365s up my end but they were all sadly scrapped last year.
It sounds like one of those toys with a tube that you turn upside down
i love it is class 323 of Malaysia Train KTMB class 81 Jenbacher transport in Malaysia
Coolest sounds on the line?
Can anybody explain (or link to explanation of) why these trains sound like they do when accelerating?

the sound is same to BN Holec (Indonesian electric train) but he retired in 2013
Holec built the original traction systems in these
RIP non refurb 323s
Still sound epic though!

nice motor but it sound a bit like the VIRMm
Seems we found the VIRM's little British cousin
2:20 motor speed increase active.
It just sounds like the one in SHL in Roblox

I wish it's my first time

Ironic how this video has 323 likes
Anyone else see Peppa and George on the first train?
GTO vvvf is the best
Ye
tbh, ermmm
They don't even have GTOs any more
This BN holec sound in indonesia!

😭😭😭😭😭😭london midland
It's an odd-looking train. Like a cheap knock-off of a Turbostar.
These are older than the 170s
Looks fuck all like a Turbostar, and they're a good few years older

this is my second most annoying train sound, the disiro is first
nah this and the desiro both sound excellent
@@edmund-osborne to you it does
It's satisfying. how could you not like it?
This is still me but I typed that with my parents account. This is my own account and wish I could delete that comment.
