  • We travelled from Tromsø to Reykjavík where we found our camper travel van that we spent the next week in! That's right...we camped in February in Iceland...watch this upcoming series to see how that goes! However, before we got there we had to deal with being stranded at 4:00AM in the Arctic Circle...

Aubrey was a Speech-Language Pathologist, Donnie was graphic designer, but we both had a dream to travel the world and experience cultures. After three years of being married and dreaming about if something like this great adventure would be possible, we decided to quit the rat race and take on the world. We sold everything we had, quit our jobs, and took off! We don't know how long we will get to do this, and we do have a goal of getting jobs in the UK eventually, but we are going to live it to the fullest while we can!

It's hilarious to me how both times you bought the 2 end seats and nobody wanted to book the middle. Nobody ever wants to be the ham in the sandwich.

Hi Aubrey and Donnie, thanks for sharing your experience in Iceland! Can you also share which company did you use to rent your camper van please? Thank you!

Hey! I will tell you who we used, but honestly, I would not recommend them...we used solsticecampers.is and here is why we wouldn’t recommend them: Our van had a divider between the bed area and the two front seats, every time we needed to turn the heat on in the night, we had to slide open the huge door on the side of the van, get out into the freezing winter night, then into the front. Then reverse that to get back in the back to go to bed this losing all heat inside the van you just created. The divider didn’t allow you to turn the heat on from the back therefore, you would lose all little heat you may have and it sucked multiple times a night doing that in the freezing Iceland tundra. They sell you on an automatic timer the van has to turn the heat on twice in the night, but it doesn’t really work. There also was no shades for the front windows and the divider between the back and the front had a window that had no shade. Therefore sun and everybody else could look right in. The van had no insulation, so all you have between the howling wind and you, was a thin sheet of metal of the van that quickly freezes. All condensation in the van from you breathing quickly freezes to the inside of the uninsulated walls and then will defrost and rain on you all day while you drive. We saw TONS of better designed and equipped vans/companies because this is pretty much how everybody gets around in Iceland. So, my suggestion, especially if you are going in Winter, is look into other companies with better designed and equipped vans. We eventually figured out workarounds to make our trip work, like hanging clothes over the windows, have a really long stick that we could stick through the divider window to push the heater button from the back, etc, but that was only after a few miserable nights 😂
