Danny McBride & Walton Goggins on Rooting for Bad Behavior in 'Vice Principals'

- Neal Gamby (Danny McBride) and Lee Russell (Walton Goggins) are the two vice principals of Lincoln High and they both really want to be the next principal. So badly in fact that they go to the extreme insulting and sabotaging each other for the gig. However, when the superintendent reveals that neither one of them is getting the job and that Dr. Belinda Brown (Kimberly Hebert Gregory) is going to be the new head honcho instead, they come to the conclusion that it's best to join forces, ruin her life together and force her out of the position.
Just before the world premiere of the first two episodes of HBO's Vice Principals at SXSW, I got the opportunity to talk to McBride and Goggins about their experience making the show. They discussed the 18-episode format, the pressure to keep things PC and figuring out how far they could go, how Goggins went from auditioning for Eastbound & Down to scoring a role in Vice Principals, and loads more. Walton’s facial expressions at Belinda Brown’s house were animalistic and psychopathic, and I am totally here for it. On repeat. Any time I want to laugh. He is amazing. The only other actor who curses as fluently and poetically as him is Peter Capaldi as Malcolm Tucker. I am a bit of an f-word variation and c-word Connoisseur. Lol
After hateful 8 i knew mr coggins can deliver a solid performance.

I didn't appreciate the first episode but I remembered "Eastbound and Down" and gave it time and love it now.
Justified is 2010 to 2015 with Noggins and Timothy Olyphant (about a cop and former friend turned likeable criminal (Noggins)
Be Warned; once you start ... You can't stop. Noggins steals the show, even if Olyphant was the main character. Got other interesting xters too like "dewy Crowe" and "Wynn Duffy" 10/10
Sorry to jump in this cinversation 10 months late, but I just thought I'd tell you guys to watch The Shield. Amazing show with 7 seasons and Goggins (who's in it since season 1 episode 1) becomes a major character and shows his incredible talent. He's actually been my favorite actor since that show.
And if you manage to get the dvd of the last season and watch the documentaries and everything, you'll be amazed at how humble this man is.
...and trust me, you're gonna love then hate his character with a passion and won't forgive him...but then you will...
Amazing show, amazing writing, amazing actors. Watch it! :)

Love this show so much. Absolutely love walton goggins he is a great actor watched him in justified and vice principals. He is phenomenal.
Absolutely stole Vice Proncipals and loved him wearing women’s pajamas and jeans. His wardrobe was perfect for his character. But his facial expressions are underrated as hell, true genius.
Danny McBride is a badass. His brand of humor is amazingly funny. I first saw him in Hot Rod, then Pineapple Express, and both are hilarious and he adds a lot to both films.

eastbound n down was more funny, but vice prinicipals was more deep, funny but more like a deep show. i think overall vice principals wins. i never seen goggins before, but he sure does look cool.

Lee Russell is such a unique character, an absolute dick and weirdo who treats everyone like shit and really is selfish, but he’s still so lovable and I find myself rooting for him way more than Neal gamby
He's a lot more honest and self aware than Gamby, and I think that's what makes him more sympathetic even though they're both assholes.

Show the interviewer if she's going to be involved in the conversation. Generally if the interviewer is behind the camera, they don't talk about themself at all.
