Messi was put on the right wing when he first started at age 17 in the first team because his preferred position as offensive midfielder was taken by the best player in the world, Ronaldinho. After Ronaldinho started to party and get drunk every day and got kicked out of the team, Messi moved to his number 10 role and even false-9 and got even better. His football brain is just too developed compared to Cristiano's. Messi has some important statistics that will never be beaten. Like the 40 year old record of goals in 1 year, which Messi beat by 7 goals and some others. He has 3 "Best Player of the Tournament" trophies at international level and Cristiano has 0. Even with Argentina Messi is so much better than Cristiano. Cristiano is amazing but Messi is insane.
Let me give you a few names. Alfredo Di Stefano, Pelé, Johan Cruyff and Diego Maradona. I think they were just as good as Messi. Also Ronaldo Nazario or Ronaldinho could have been in that league if it hadn't been for injuries and for the complacency they showed at one point.
