Hi Raf, can't stress enough that at 28 it be absolutely great for you to quit alcohol now cos it can get worse as we age. Wish wish wish I'd listened to family friends and doctors then and quit cos 50 now and entering rehab for 10 months is scary as hell. Try honey, try hard 😊😢❤❤❤

congratulations, Marcus! im an alcoholic trying to stay off the sauce, and i definitely agree with so many of your points. the biggest for me is time and attitude. i was spending all my time drunk and/or hungover, and it was ruining my life. getting the shakes, and drinking until i passed out with a bottle in hand. waking up, reaching for a bottle and a trashcan. now i wake up feeling alive, and it's a truly amazing feeling.

It’s scary to try to stop. in the morning I’m panicking thinking about how I did it again i drank last night when I told myself I wasn’t going to. Then I convince myself I’m ready to stop. Then when 5 o’clock rolls around I’m ready to start drinking and I begin to tell myself that I have it under control. I don’t understand how my mind can go from worrying so much in the morning to completely forgetting about it and wanting to drink at night

I’m 33 and I’ve been a drinker since I was 19. It started with partying up until about 22-23. I stopped partying, but the alcohol never left. Over the last 10 years it’s slowly progressed from 2-3 beers a week, to 2-3 beers a night. Now for the last year I’ve picked up the Bourbon 🥃. Wild Turkey 101 to be exact. It’s to the point that I can’t stop until it’s gone. I can’t just drink 3 beers I drink the whole 6 pack. I’m finding myself hiding the amount I drink from my fiancé. I drink when she’s at work and I’m off. I make sure to take out the trash before she gets home. She’s not stupid, and she won’t put up with it forever.
Who am I? I’m successful in every other aspect of life. I’m an extremely disciplined person. I eat healthy and go to the gym. I work overtime religiously, and save money. I have a side business investing in real estate and I’m successful at it. Why do I allow this in my life?
I’m getting married in 6 months, and surely kids will follow. The time has come. I need to fix this now.

Friday nights no beer but a 1/5 of Kettle One fast forward 25 years just turned 50 only my daughter said Happy Birthday. Now I buy a handle of Absolute every Friday. Quit a lifetime of heavy drinking by driving into a tree at a high speed. After a year and several implants in legs and arms, I got back to my life without alcohol. That was in 2017 and sober since, this was the greatest gift, except my family, that I have ever received. Please, if you are stuck, give yourself this gift, without the implants!

Since all my friends drank, I lost all those friends. I spend way more time alone, but I keep busy. I don't have near as much fun, plus I loved drinking and the way it made me feel. Twenty years in Active-Duty military, drinking was our only "Relax" we had to go to. It was promoted, at NCO/Enlisted clubs. However, at 50 years old, I just stopped drinking, no rehab needed, I just stopped drinking. I have not had in drink now in about 8 years.

I'm also no longer on sleep or cholesterol medication, my personal relationships are in a much better place, ive since got a great job and a new car, money in the bank, and most importantly no hangovers, or the daily rollercoaster of anxiety and inebriation, getting off booze forces you to confront your anxiety and find healthier more sustainable outlets for it, best decision i've made in my adult life.

April 16th 1993 went out drinking with friends. Had a really bad night. Didn't drink for 2 weeks and did some cold hard thinking. Didn't like what I came up with and what my life had become. That's when I made the decision to quit. Hadn't had any alcohol or drugs for about two weeks at that point so I was clear headed when I made the decision to quit. I didn't go on one last binge or anything. I just quit. Nobody thought I'd last two weeks. I was reminded often by these people how worthless I am and how I won't last and will eventually screw up. Some of these people were family and some I thought were friends. First year was the hardest.of course after a few years those same people would tell me I knew you could do it.
It's now September 2019. April 17th 2019 was my 26 year anniversary clean and sober. I'm not gonna lie, Sometimes I get the urge. ( usually stress related). So I go get a 6 pack of non alcoholic beer and get non- shitfaced. Seriously, 26 years now. Drug and alcohol free. Best decision I ever made. I think about it sometimes but I know I'll never go back to it.
Anyone going thru the same thing, you can do this. Ignore the negative comments, find new friends if you have to. If some family members are the problem, don't have contact with them unless it's necessary. I never went to AA or rehab. I did this all on my own. Get help if you need it. Make the decision and do what it takes. Good luck.

This stuff you described is 100% true, that’s exactly what happens. All that person has to do is go alcohol free for 3 months and then problem will go away. After 2 weeks you will flip to the better side, is the hardest time, but after initial 2 weeks you will be confused which side to choose the bad or good, most people pick the good side after 2 weeks. During that time take some time off work and use sleeping pills to get good long quality sleep. Talk to your doctor ask for clonazepan, it will knock you out for 16 hours of sleep, you will feel great once you wake up. 🙃

For those of us that have addictive personalities, I wouldn’t suggest the sleeping pill route. Rather a busy day and at least 45 minutes of hardcore exercise daily. Trust you won’t need a sleeping pill lol. Maybe cbd which is all natural and healthy. An epsom salt bath also. Appreciate your comment tho continue on brother !

Well, I'm sitting here at home after getting home from the hospital after I crashed my motorbike into a tree while being totally drunk to the stage that I can't remember.....All I remember is thinking, I'm going to die this time before smacking into the tree...apparently my helmet was left up in the tree after a branch smash a hole in my helmet and pulled it off my head...Avyways looks like I will be going to jail because I'm on a suspended sentence from another incident last year...If you still think you can drink and get away with the problems it creates then I think you are fooling yourself and do what you have to do to stop before your life is ruined beyond repair....

I literally go thru about half a liter of rum a day on average every single day for a few years now. I exercise religiously and have lost 60 lbs or so over the past year so maybe I'm mitigating it to some degree. One of my uncles had to start going dialysis because he was an alcoholic most his life. Everything you say is correct... Even after a few days of being sober I feel better. But after those few days something pulls me in and I just binge for another few days till it gets out of control. Then I quit again for a few days, and its a never ending cycle of frustrating powerless addiction. Worst part is that it affects people around me, even ended a few friendships because of dumb shit I did when I was drunk. Alcohol is currently the biggest problem in my life, over which, I basically have no control right now. Got drunk yesterday, and when I woke up, the first thing that came to my mind is that I want to get drunk again. Its killing me and the worst part is... I'm 25 years old and I really feel like I need to get my shit together ASAP or this is not gonna end well.

By the way , He was a cute daily drinker ! Never fought , suicide shit or depression etc. After he quit this habit by himself , He just kept whiskey, brandy , wine and beer (one bottle each) on his shelf in the dining room. Still they are all in fresh condition means never opened or touched either! He is the real man of the world!

I agree with your message Marcus but I actually have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I’ve had it since I was 5 and I’m 51 now and despite every type of CBT and SSRI, SNRI, medication, hospital admission, etc over the past three decades I still have OCD. Up to 50% of people who suffer from OCD are unfortunately treatment resistant. OCD is not only 24/7, 7 days a week, year in, year out. It is also one of the most excruciating and debilitating mental illnesses. So yes, I understand extremely high anxiety levels socially and generalised high anxiety when alcohol is removed. However unless you ‘literally’ suffer from OCD, you will never understand it and I would never wish this upon my worst enemy.
